Nick was happy. It was his final day in Sunagakure. He had been in this place for approximately four weeks. Which was a full month. Nick was grinning all along. He had pretty much beat up his entire apartment because of the fact that he was moving out which meant that he was in no need to care about the upkeep of the apartment, - It wasn't really of importance to him. Sure, a fine would be made, but then again; Nick had enough money to learn not to care about such small details. After packing his bags the night before the male would wake up at around... seven AM. Which was quite a nice time. He was motivated enough to get out of bed, change his clothing and shave, shower and brush his teeth. After having done his early morning activities he went out for a morning swim. Which was somewhat short lived because he wanted to get the hell out of this village. After his swim he made letters and sent them to his family, since he was in good touch with them he frequently sent them letters.

This time, he wrote down that he would move out of the village. After he was done writing he would wash his hands, a habit of his which is quite odd. After being done washing his hands he went to his living room and heated up a pizza. He ate it quickly and then cracked his neck a little, warming it slightly up knowing that the trip he was in for was going to be a long lived one.

"Hnmp"

Nick whispered as he stood at his front door. Recalling the countless times he went out. Ohwell, Nick bent over to put his leather boots around his feet. He tied them down good so that his pace would be quite fast. After having his boots put on he stood up straight and then grabbed his black-colored leather jacket. He put it on, knowing that it would be nicer to walk around in it when he wasn't in Sunagakure, since the heat trapped a lot of warmth in the jacket. Nick grabbed his backpack and put it on. He opened his door and stepped outside. The calm sun was starting to rise. Nick grabbed his sunglasses out of his backpack and started to wander towards the gates of the village with a bright smile on his face.

"One head rolls, two head rolls, three heads are rolling ~"

He sung.

It was time to leave.

This was by far the shortest time she had spent - or was willing to spend - in a village. It wasn't that the village  was particularly unpleasant. There wasn't one specific factor that made her want to leave, but rather, a collection of little things. She would return one day, she was sure of it. But as she watched two men push through the crowds in the village center, marked with their clan sigil … that was the last straw. It looked as though her mother had already caught up to her here. These appeared to only be scouts, but Mikage wasn't really up for another game of cat and mouse, not now. If she was going to play, might as well do it back in Hi no Kuni, where she would be would right under her mother's nose. It was unclear what her mother wanted with her now - the last time she had checked, the Kotone clan leader had wanted her dead, but it always seemed to change depending on her mother's mood. While she had only just travelled from the Land of Fire to the Land of Wind a few days prior, something made her want to return home again, no longer impressed with the hot, sandy terrain that made up most of Kaze no Kuni.

"Nee-chan, what do you say? Shall we head home for a bit of fun? You'd probably want to see mother, you're always the one who would miss her." She whispered to the stuffed rabbit plushie, holding it up to her face and kissing it lightly on the head before, sliding off the roof, landing lightly on the balcony of room she was renting. It was a rather shoddy place to be living in, but her funds were limited, and the more run-down the place, the less questions they asked. Even if she was at the age where most other kids were genin, or chuunin, they usually didn't travel or live alone - especially not if they were village-born. It did raise a lot of potential questions, and almost always led to a hassle.

Slipping back into her room, she grabbed her overdress - a light, white top that laid perfectly over the summer dress she always seemed to be wearing - and put it on, figuring that she wouldn't want to hold it for long, and would likely be able to withstand the heat until she reached the border. Skipping down the stairs to the front lobby, she left a handful of ryo on the main counter to pay the remainder of her rent, not bothering to slow her pace or stop to say farewell. Not that the person behind the counter was paying much attention. As she passed the corner of the counter, her hand reached up to grab an apple for the bowl of fresh fruits left there to entice new customers, other hand loosely holding the arm of the rabbit plushie - the rest of its body dangling free in the air. With a light spring in her step, she headed towards the village gates, intending to get back to Konoha as soon as possible. … Not that it was very likely for the ever-distracted girl. Without anyone to keep her in place, she had a tendency to wander, used to the freedom that she possessed, free to do as she wanted.

She passed through the gates without a hitch, taking tiny bites from her apple as she approached. There were already a handful of people going in and out of the village, none of which she paid any particular attention to. Until a rather interesting song floated by, attracting her attention by its questionable lyrics, lyrics that made the side of her mouth twitch up in an amused grin. Eyes scanning the area for the source of the lovely song, her gaze rested on a familiar sight.

"Heeeey, mister! Heading off to find your lobsters?" She would call out, skipping towards him, waving to him with the hand that was holding the plushie as she continued nibbling on her apple. From the looks of it, the man she had met on her first day was also preparing to travel - unless he was off on some solo mission of sorts. "Try not to get buried again, kaay? The lobsters might eat you instead!"

Nicks nose made a slight movement of its own. It wrinkled slightly, his nostrils opened a little. Inhaling sounds were made as he looked around. Something... something familiar. A scent that he loved... was it... was it apples? It was coming from quite a distance. Nick smirked a little, apples were rare in this village. He brought his index finger to his mouth and licked the tip of it. He then hung up his finger in the air to feel what direction the wind was coming from. Thus he looked into that general direction, considering that the wind was coming from that direction the person with the apple, or apples was around that direction.

It was quite far away. Maybe two hundred meters. Nicks sense of smell wasn't that very noticeable, but when it came to apples he could smell one from the puckered ass of a politician. Since they were usually tight. Nick grinned slightly as he continued to sing his wicked tune. His head was bobbing up and down as a few other people who also were leaving the country were giving him disgusting looks. It didn't really faze Nick though. He heard a voice in the distance as he turned his head around towards where he heard that voice. Noticing that it was in the direction of the wind. Nick had an interesting theory about people who walked along the lines of the wind, that they were the truest nomads of the world. Those who go where the wind carry them in a literal sense. How intriguing.

Nick then saw the person who called out to him. He smiled warmly and then winked towards her. Acknowledging her joke, but not digging deeper into it. Which seemed to be the easiest social cue for him to use at that moment.

"Ahaha, it's you, Pierre-san ~"

Nick totally messed up her name a little. Since Mikage meant something along the lines of Granite, and granite translated to French meant Pierre. It was quite funny how derpy the thought process of Nick was. He then walked closer to her, so he wouldn't have to shout to be able to talk to her in a normal fashion.

"No no, today, I felt like eating every apple I could find. And alas, Konohogakure, the land of tall trees would be the best place to start, don't you think? Hehe"

Nick jealously eyed her apple that she was holding slightly, licking his lips in a lusty fashion. Nick then took his tongue back into his mouth and smiled like he did frequently. Oh such a wicked smile it was. He would wonder what her destination would be, since it seemed like she too was traveling. Although Nick couldn't say where she was going. She took her teddy bear with her again it seemed, he wondered how she'd react if she lost it. She probably wouldn't lose it anyway, since it seemed to be glued on her.

Pierre-san? Was that supposed to be her name? … Was that even a name? Mikage narrowed her eyes as she approached him, mouth turning down in what appeared to be a cross between a frown and a pout. She had liked it so much when he called her 'ojou-chan', even happier than she would've been if he had called her by her name. But now that cute title had disappeared replaced with … what was it again? Pear? "But my name's not --" Eh? He was heading to Konohagakure as well? She cut herself off as he continued to talk, revealing his new destination to her. As in, the same place as her?

Wait, she got distracted again. She stamped her foot a little in annoyance, more annoyed at herself than anything. It seemed that whenever she was around this guy, she just couldn't seem to get a word in properly. This was relatively new. Usually, if she was mad and wanted to show it - it usually happened, escalating into a full physical tantrum with nothing to stop her. But in the two encounters she's had with Nick, the other didn't give her the time of day to fully develop her rage, whether it was deliberate or just a special, natural talent of his … it was lucky, to say the least.  Pulled out from her thoughts, she found herself listening intently to his words, following his gaze down to her apple curiously.

Seriously? There were actually people who travelled around just for the sake of food? Unable to contain her amusement, she let out a small giggle, shaking her head at the silly reason. She was quite the spontaneous traveller too, but to think that he had switched destinations from Kirigakure to Konohagakure simply because he wanted to eat apples instead of lobsters! How fascinating. Delightfully spontaneous. But now … this meant he was heading in the same direction she was, to the Land of Fire. Part of her was excited about this, for some odd reason that she couldn't quite rationalize. "Neh ~ Mikage and Misaki are going to Konoha too!" She would finally add after she was rather certain he was done talking, waving her apple in the air excitedly. Of course, she didn't mention anything about travelling together. In fact, she didn't think it necessary to ask, the moment it was revealed that they were both heading in the same direction, in Mikage's head, it was expected that they travel together, no question about it. After all, why not? They knew each other (sort of), they could both fight (… it seemed), and travelling together would be fun (Mikage supposed, seeing as she had always travelled alone before). A perfect arrangement.

"Are you sure you'll be okay though, mister? People in Konoha don't bury people in sand, but they might hang you off a tree! Maybe even dangle an apple in front of you, just out of reach." Another giggle, after which she would begin to skip forward, heading in the general direction towards the Land of Fire, expecting the other to follow. Speaking of apples … the mention of the word served as a reminder that she still had an unfinished one in her hand, and upon realizing this, she would bring it towards her mouth, taking a large bite out of it to emphasize the crunching sound of teeth ripping through the fruit. "If we don't hurry, they might run out of apples~"

"Still with the Misaki thing huh?" //INNERDIALOGUE

Nick thought as he was visibly eyeing her apple. He licked his lips seductively, wanting to steal the apple with his mouth but he resisted the urge. He blinked mildly, which showed that he was somewhat out of focus.

"Hm, they're going to Kono too" //INNERDIALOGUE

Nick slightly shuddered, realizing that he thought they. Instead of her. It was a weird thought. Maybe he should company her on her travels? After all, she seemed quite young. Nick wasn't exactly known as a family-man, or someone who's really friendly but his moral compass was in the right place.

"Konohagakure is nice this time a year. It tends to get humid, but still! The apples are ripe!"

Nick said, praising Konohagakure slightly. His compliments usually had a insulting undertone to them. He blinked again, he found out who buried him in the desert a few days ago. It was somewhat awkward, but it was the truth. Nick tried his best not thinking about it anymore. He grinned at her dark humor. It was a little funny. He held onto his backpack and nodded. The two of them had developed synergy together, they didn't even need to ask each other whether or not they were accompanying each other. Nick held his thumb up and closed one eye. He moved his thumb to the horizon and nodded.

"That way ~"

Nick said, he knew the way to Konohagakure from the top of his head so it wasn't a problem. During his years of travel he has made many sketches of the world. Sunagakure was quite big. He had enough food and water in his backpack for a month for an adult, he guessed that Mikage only would need a weeks worth for him for two weeks. So if she hadn't brought food and water with her, it wouldn't be a problem. Nick began to walk as he felt sand in his boot, it annoyed him a little. Maybe this was a good opportunity to talk more to Mikage? He wasn't sure what he would say though. Nick wasn't that talkative.

Stupid, stupid sand.

Her pace eventually slowed to match Nick's, hating the way that with every step, sand rushed into the interior of her anklet bells, jamming the clapper. Occasionally, a dull ringing could be heard when she lifted her foot to let the granules of sand empty itself out of the bell, but the sound would quickly be snuffed out the moment she set her foot down again. If she was careful, she could take lighter steps to ensure that only her soles of her feet touched the warm sand, but that required much more effort and attention than she could afford to give. The thought of leaving this sand-filled place gave her a small modicum of relief, actually anticipating the return home, back to the Land of Fire. As what others would call a ronin - a wandering ninja who swore no loyalty to any particular country - it may sound odd for her to call Hi no Kuni her home, but in her books, the definition of home was where she was born, where her happy memories lived, and died.

She lifted the bunny up to her head, shaking it slightly to hear the comforting jingle of a bell hidden deep within the torso of the plushie. This one, unfortunately, was incapable of channelling her kekkei genkai, a fact she lamented, but nonetheless still found comfort in having it with her.

"Ne, ne ~ Mister, can you do that fire thing again? The thing you did to that man? Mikage wants to see it!" She would suddenly bring up the random question, tilting her body slightly to look at Nick in anticipation. Since seeing his little display of power in the restaurant a few days ago, she had been fascinated by his little fire trick, replaying the scene over and over in her head. If there was one thing Mikage truly liked, it was things that could catch her attention for more than a couple minutes. If Nick could keep her entertained until the duo reached Hi no Kuni, that would certainly be an amazing feat. Ever since running away from home, she never stayed in one place for long, and rarely had the time to have more than a single conversation with the people she encountered. But this was the second time already that she has met this man, and it seemed as though the more time she spent with him, the more interesting things she got to see.

Nick heard the bells swing. It was faint, but it was there. It reminded him of the time he was in a minor village and a battle crazed seven-foot giant was chasing him. The battle crazed guy was dubbed Señor Manifesto. Nick nearly got minced into meat that day. It was a close call, but the guy exposed his back for three seconds and dropped his guard. Which was enough for Nick to take his life instead. Nick seemed to be lost in the moment that he didn't respond to Mikage for a second. He heard her, but it wasn't connecting in his brain because he was having a nostalgic moment. He then snapped out of it and realized that she wanted to see pretty fireworks. He had just the thing in mind.

"Hehe. Sure."

He faced opposite of her, not wanting to harm her with the fire that he could make. He then concentrated on his chakra control, since it was somewhat dangerous. He formed a few handseals and then concentrated more deeply. He was silent for a second and then whispered out.

"Katon: Goryūka no Jutsu"

He inhaled deeply and then kneaded the chakra in his stomach onto the oxygen in his lugs. He did it slowly to make sure his stomach and his lungs were safe from the chakra. His chakra control was excellent so it wasn't that difficult to keep it safe. And thus he was successful, he parted his lips as fire was blasting out of his mouth into the desert. The flames took a shape of a Chinese Dragon. It exploded a few seconds later into the desert. It was quite impressive. The heat of the jutsu was blowing against his face as well as Mika's, probably. Nick smirked slightly. He then shifted his attention back to Mika.

"Was that impressive enough, ojou-chan?"

The tall male chuckled slightly and then continued to walk. After five minutes, he proposed for them to take a break. Nick would sit down on a rock, he was somewhat tired. As he sat down he saw three troubadours walking towards him and Mikage. Trouble was afoot, probably.

If Mikage herself had displayed an affinity towards the fire element, she would have definitely enjoyed it to its fullest extent - even if it meant being labelled as a pyromaniac. There was a moments pause between his answer and the flames, in which Mikage had her full attention placed on the older male, eyes widened as their lilac gaze awaited the reappearance of the beautiful sight she had seen a couple days back. Even though it was only a few seconds wait, it felt like time had slowed, a rather dramatic scene as she eagerly waited for him to mould the necessary chakra - not at all concerned with where the fire would end up coming from, or whether she was standing in a dangerous location.

And there it was, a massive torrent of flames spewed from his mouth, quickly forming a serpentine shape in the air as more delicate details made themselves apparent, until a person could - without a doubt - identify it has a dragon. Her mouth was frozen in an 'o' shape, the reflection of the magnificent flames dancing in her eyes as the dragon shifted over the sand for a few moments before dispersing in another brilliant, crimson explosion. She could feel the heat licking at her face, and thin fingers reached up to touch her cheek, as though trying to capture and save the remains of the warm feeling. Her cheeks were flushed from the sudden temperature change, eyes alight from what she had just witnessed. It wasn't her first time seeing something like this, but it was amazing nonetheless, an element that she greatly enjoyed being near.

"Woooah ~ That's amazing!"

She finally let out the exclamation, several moments after the dragon had disappeared. Turning her attention back to Nick, she clapped in delight, fingers and palms all connecting symmetrically, as how most younger children would clap as opposed to the act of turning one hand to produce more sound. Every little action was childish, and at this moment, she was a very happy child. It felt satisfying to have her wishes granted, even more so when her wishes were granted beyond her expectations. Mikage had initially thought that the other would simply show her the same trick he used on the giant man, but it appeared he had other thoughts.

Feet skipping lightly on the sand as she followed him, she was quiet for a moment, replaying the scene in her head, until he suggested that they take a break. She would scramble on rock next to him, swinging her legs over the edge and occupying herself with dusting off the sand from her rabbit. The soft melodic jingle from the three tiny bells on her anklet would continue to ring, but as soon as she was used to her surroundings, she paid little attention to it … until they picked up movement. The men that Nick had noticed where already getting close, close enough for her sound waves to pick up on, but it wasn't until the outer edges of her sensory perception picked up on their presence did she lift her head, head tilting to stare curiously at the approaching men. One of them, the one in the middle, had a smile on his face, rather predatory, but such a detail would go by unnoticed to Mikage. Approaching the two of them, their attention flickered between Nick and Mikage, but it was obvious that they would start by addressing Nick, which they did.

"What's this? Babysitting, or a kidnapping? Travelling alone with a little girl is quite dangerous out in these parts, you know." It was obvious that unlike his words, his tone lacked any form of concern. Instead, he seemed pleased, eyeing Nick carefully for a response. Mikage blinked, setting down the rabbit plushie on her lap and bristling at his words - particularly the part where it was implied that she was being babysat. "Hey, mister, are you going to make these people burn too?" She would ask Nick rather innocently, mouth upturned into a sweet smile at one of the other two men.

Nick squinted his eyes a little. He was sitting up straight, his legs, too were straight. He knew that he had to be prepared for any type of escalation to a battle. Sitting oddly/- or in a bad position would be very disadvantageous. Nick seemed casual, but he was thinking. Battle strategies were forming in his mind. He was a multi-tasker at its finest definition. Nick was scanning the area. Seeing whether or not one of them was hiding up a tree. It didn't seem like it. Nick guessed that they were pickpocketers, highway-men. Those kinds of people. Nick let them speak at first. He already had about threehundred and fifty five ways to kill them.

Nick then had a grin on his face when Mikage spoke to him. Burning, scorching, all that, wasn't that interesting to him. The smell of burnt human flesh became like bacon to him. He wondered how strong the highwaymen were.

"Alright gentlemen. At this point, you all can do one-hundred and twenty six different things to alter your life. Sounds strange? I know, it made more sense in my mind. "

Nick bluffed, of course. He knew that there were about three hundred things. For example, grabbing Mikage, slamming her into the ground. Grabbing a tree, throwing it onto Nick and Mika. There was a lot of different shit that they could do. As every second passed, Nick was glaring at their facial details. Nick trained himself in body language. He could tell from the cringes and the slight surprised faces how they would react. It didn't take him long to completely predict their movements. But of course, spontaneous reactions always could occur. Nick rubbed his hands together as one of them spoke.

"Alright, play-time is over. Hand over the money, we outnumber you"

Nicks initial smirk didn't fade. It was still there, on his face. He reached into his pocket, which made the troubadours alert and back of slightly. Which was caused because of Nicks agressive body language. Indicating that he might strike at any second. He grabbed a smoke and a zippo, he lit the smoke and exhaled white smoke. He then reached for his cigarette, he pulled it out of his mouth in a very fast fashion. In the same movement a kunai flew out of his sleeve. Flying towards the neck of the male in the middle. He didn't expect it and tried to step out of the way, it gazed his neck and it severed his arteries a little bit.

The wound wasn't big enough to kill him right away, but it did cause an internal bleeding in his neck which would be extremely lethal in time. The troubadours yelled at Nick and then charged at him with all three. They each had drawn a katana. Nick stood up, pulling his own superior tanto out. They would strike towards him one by one. The first one Nick would react by spinning to gain velocity. It would put more power behind his slash. His superior tanto cut through the rusty katana that the troubadour had like butter. Nick put more strength behind it and took the mans arm of. This startled the other two. They backed off as one held his neck, the wound was starting to become bigger and he realized that. They then ran away. Nick couldn't catch up to them, well he could. But the risk of him running into a trap was too great. Instead he sat down as the guy with the cut-off arm was rolling on the pain, bleeding out and screaming in pain.

"Don't chase em, Mika. It might be a trap. Do you hear that? It's the last breath of a dying man, exciting, isn't it?"

Nick said as he sat down on the stone rock one meter behind him he previously was sitting on. Smiling as he licked of the blood on his blade.

"I think break time is over, let's go again ~"

How exciting it all was!

Even if she wasn't taking an active role, it was thrilling all the same; a bit of excitement during their little break. Normally she would jump into the fray the moment she got the chance to, leaping headfirst into trouble, but for once, she willingly allowed herself to be the protected one. The reasoning was rather simple. The sand was still bothering her, and the thought of having to move around in the troublesome terrain would undoubtedly require much effort. An excuse of sorts, but hey, at least it allowed her to see yet another display of Nick's prowess.

It didn't begin as action-packed as she had wanted, instead starting with a bit of a stare-off as the men gauged each other in an attempt to discern weaknesses and anticipate their opponent's next move. Mikage's eyes were trained on the three men, acutely aware of Nick sitting rather still beside her after he had shifted positions. The little knowing smile still on her face, her eyes light up when she sensed movement next to her, turning her head slightly to see that Nick had taken out a cigarette and a zippo in the corner of her vision. Visually, she nearly missed the kunai that flew at an astonishing speed out without warning at the man who had first spoken, first registering it as a rapidly flying hand-sized object before identifying it as a kunai just as it made contact with the man's neck. Bright red blood made its appearance, spraying out in such a fashion that suggested it was no minor flesh found that the man was inflicted with. The sight of blood made her even more excited, sitting on the edge of the rock eagerly to avoid missing any details.

By then, weapons were drawn, and to Mikage's surprise, Nick also took out a small small blade - considerably shorter compared to the katana that wielded by the three men. It looked as though there would be no use of ninjutsu here, just purely a display of weapon wielding. And it was over within moments. Her sensory waves picked up something around arms-length hitting the ground, followed by a dull thud as one of the men collapsed. At first, she thought it was the rest of the katana, after Nick's tanto cleaved right through one of the rusty, neglected blades. But as fear and confusion scattered the other two men, Mikage realized that it was the man's arm, detached and laying a meter or so away from the rest of the body. Ouchhh. A short laugh escaped her, eyes moving from the dying man to his companions, who were now making their escape. Somewhere diagonally behind her, she could hear Nick say something about not pursuing them, but she had no intentions of doing so anyway.

"Last breath? But he's taking too many." Mikage replied childishly, switching her attention back to the man, whose flails and screams were getting considerably weaker. She would hop on her feet upon his suggestion that they get moving again, walking up to the dying man. "Ehh, we don't even get to see his last, last breath." She huffed upon confirming that the man was indeed still breathing, albeit in short, ragged gasps. "Do you think that other man is taking his last breaths too?" She would continue to ask as they set off to complete the rest of their journey back to Konoha, referring to the man whose throat the kunai had grazed.

Bouncing on the soles of her feet, regardless of whether or not she received a response from Nick, she would skip forward after a few moments, picking up the pace in anticipation for whatever would await the duo next - whether they bump into more trouble, or eventually reach Konoha. But only moments after her cheerful advance, she would stop and frown, lifting her left foot up again to shake out the sand from her anklet, frustration written plainly on her face. If only there was some way she could travel without touching the ground ... an idea she would have to work on, and perhaps find a solution to.
