You couldn’t see anything. Whether you looked to the left or to the right, you were clouded in a thick mist with barely any sight of where you were heading. Rei has never been to the village outskirts before, but he quickly came to the realization that coming here might’ve been a mistake. Not because of the possibilities of the danger that may lie around him; he just wasn’t that certain he’d be able to find his way out of here, should the need arise. With the mist surrounding his being, everything looked the same. Every tree, every bush, every rock. Normally, perhaps you’d be able to recognize the way you went by particular carving or damage done to the trees or rocks, but even paying attention to that would do him no good. His footsteps would be heard clearly by anyone nearby. From stepping on little twigs to kicking small pebbles away from him. The reason for this was because it was deadly quiet. You couldn’t even hear the birds chirp, as if people had forsaken this place and thought it was haunted. Rei couldn’t blame them. Although not sure if this mist had always been here, it did give him a creepy feeling of what might be lurking in the shadows. He had no weapons on him and he wasn’t sure whether he could take whatever might ambush him. This, of course, depending on the kind of creature or individual he might come across. With or without ill intent. In situations like this, the mind is easy to play tricks on you. As you dwell on your thoughts, they get more horrifying by the second. Once you get something on your mind that creeps you out, it’s difficult to get out of your head, especially in a place like this. Once it settles in and the thought expands, it’s when the mind makes you see things that you’d probably don’t want to see, although it’s never actually there.

From the haze around him, he could see a black figure standing not too far away from him. He blinked; unaware that this might just be his mind playing tricks on his eyes. Without saying a word, he just moved closer to, what he thought was, the individual. Still on his guard, not muttering a single word and keeping his presence as long as could be. Although he had the disadvantage that every movement he’d make might be heard in this cold, silent day, at least he made an effort. The figure, however, didn’t seem to be getting closer, no matter how long Rei strolled along. He couldn’t take it anymore. He wasn’t breaking down, but he wanted to know who.. No, what it was. It definitely wasn’t an individual. Narrowing his eyes, trying to take a closer look although there was no use in that. All he could do now, since he couldn’t get closer, was to yell out. “Hey!” He yelled out, his voice crossing the entire area, pretty sure people in the far distance could’ve heard him. With that single word, however, he broke out the so-called hallucination. The figure vanished into thin air, revealing just another part of the thick haze to his front. He blinked and chuckled to himself for a little bit. “I see..” He quietly spoke to himself, the tone in his voice revealing that he’s pretty much forcing himself to calm down. It was the moment where he came to the realization that there was no one there at all, just letting his imagination run wild and making it manifest in the real world. This goes to prove, the mind is a scary thing. Fortunately, no one has the power to materialize anything they think. He shrugged off the idiotic thought, laughing to himself. As if.

He wasn’t getting anywhere at this rate. He needed a place to settle down for a moment and think about which way was the direction of Kirigakure. Or better yet, at least out of this place. Passing the many identical trees and seemingly an endless white vague, he spotted yet another black mark in the distance. This time, it wasn’t the form of an individual. It was smaller, wider at the bottom yet slim at the top, as if something was attached to it. Yet another hallucination? That wasn’t it. Because with every step that he took, he witnessed the black object getting closer and closer; this was reality. Moving his way around the obstacles such as rocks and bushes in his path, he reached his destination. At least, he made that his destination as soon as he took note of it. Right now, he stood before the object seen in the distance. It was just an old well. He blinked twice, leaning over the edge only to see a moldy rope connected to a rotten bucket. “This.. Is it?” He thought to himself. He figured there might’ve been something interesting around these part. Perhaps the mist was used to cover up something important, but that might’ve just been Rei’s imagination yet again. Or did the well have some sort of purpose? Or background? He could look around, but there’s definitely no one in his eyesight, or just someone who’s really good at hiding their presence. No one could give him some information on this, so he actually just needed to let this one slide. Or so it seemed to him. He reached down into his pocket, getting out a coin of Ryo and flipping it a few times while catching it in the palm of his hand. “Well.. Time to make a wish then.” After all, he has walked this entire distance, at least it wouldn’t be completely in vain. With the final flip that he gave as an effect to the coin, it fell over the edge, down into the well. Rei closed his eyes, listening closely to the sound that was yet to come. Without being focused to it, there probably was no way of hearing when the coin dropped the ground. A clinging sound echoed and at that moment, Rei silently wished to himself. It went silent for a moment and after a while, Rei opened up his eyes, turning himself around and sitting on the edge of the well. “Who am I kidding. Pretty naïve for me to rely on powers from above.” He said, with a smile across his lips and his hands shoved back into his pockets.

Born Again... 36 Minutes ago

Battle was the great test, as a warrior was never truly more alive than the moment that came when they stood upon the threshold between the world of the living and the world of their ancestors. Waves of combat washing over you, cleansing you in sweat, blood, anger and desperation as you discover without a doubt who you truly are in your heart of hearts. Ayakashi, had learned that lesson on the fortress mountain top during the Seven Bells war, she had felt the heat of his blast penetrate her armour and chest as she fell a half centuries yards to the ravenous river which consumed her and carried her to safety... Ayakashi had thought she had died that day, and as blackness consumed her unlike many before her she did not feel the peace of death, there was no kind reaper out-stretching his hand to lead her to a better tomorrow, her father did not greet her on the other side and whisper sweet words of relief. Ayakashi felt the frigid cold of her own ice for the first time, was consumed by fear and the faces of the living, she could not have possibly known that her own supposed death would whip the nation into a frenzy like a million starving sharks.

And so now, Ayakashi knew the measure of life... And bai would help her.

The whirling dervish that was the Mizukage of the Village Hidden in the Mist was ablaze with her blades, the roaring tiger of kirigakure at her right hand while the Raijin / kusanagi was in her hands, each of them in turn as legendary as she was, burning brilliantly with their edges composed of pure chakra as the Mizukage faced down her harrowing opponent. Yet another of the assassins that had been sent after her by the Daimyo, this one by the name of Ma Chao, a boastful and serious opponent who seemed to do much of his combat on horseback, with a spear. Ayakashi had managed to dismount the warrior with a well placed slash for his horse, but had not anticipated the horse to be seemingly just as grand a warrior as he was. A fully armoured war-horse, its plate was resisting even Ayakashi's blows as the rider and his companion both charged their adversary. Short-spear in hand, Ma Chao and his mount named Hex-Mark were a devastating team with all the synergy that could be expected from a life-long bond between man and beast. Curving off the tip of his spear with the side of kusanagi, Ayakashi swung the Raijin blade for the man's chest, catching the pole as Ma Chao effortlessly bought it up to defend himself and push back, sending Ayakashi back into the path of his charging stead which had leaped to stomp her into the dust with a harrowing trample.

Pushing off his own push, Aya lanched herself back further and faster than the horse had expected, rolling backwards with the additional force of its shock wave as she found her feet, grinding backwards along the dirt a couple of feet before she was about to charge the two of them again. Like lightning two hooves shot out of the dust cloud for Aya's chest as the horse kicked in her direction, bringing up her blades Aya managed to guard but was once again sent hurtling back as a shadow moved to intercept, Ma-Chao had leaped like the tengu, soaring high above them all vaulting off the back of his horse and coming down with his spear like a bolt of divine justice descending from the heavens. Spinning the the side at the last second, the tip of his weapon found the ground where Aya had once been, kicking it to a side to rip the point out of the hard earth as the warring battle continued between them all... Aya had fought many soldiers in her time, but each of these assassins was like fighting Mizuru or Io all over again...

And so the war waged on...

Ayakashi wandered back from the out-skirts and the Nukenin graveyard back to within the reach of the village itself, it wasn't long until she placed her hand against a tree, feeling the familiar touch of the bark of kirigakure ceder. Her fingers teasing over markings, leading her to become quizzical, only to discover that this tree had been etched with something, a family symbol, perhaps a promise or vow made by a Genin to become strong, or perhaps little more than an act of vandalism, but she could tell by the hand that drew it, it was young. At the very least it acted as a way-point leading her to an opening in the forest, coming out to a familiar clearing the Mizukage stared at the image of a familiar well, she could remember the days of her and her friends as genin training here. She could remember her first teacher training her to become a stronger ninja than she already was. She could remember the same friends who together hunted down and ended the reign of the serial killer who once so diligantly prowled the grave-yard of her dear country.

It all began here...

The well was important to Aya, so much so that even though it had fallen to dis-use so long ago, she refused to allow it to be removed, rather leaving it and claiming it to be a national treasure. This well had withstood the test of time, the destruction of the village, had even lived longer than multiple of the villages old Kage. There was something ancient, something immortal about this one particular wellspring. To the point that it was almost supernatural, in a more mysterious and eerie way than other ninja would likely admit. Shaking her head and waving away her thoughts as easily as waving the mist away from her face, Ayakashi became aware that she was no longer alone, though she did have a feeling that it was not like the warrior she felt before. no, this ninja did not give off the air of the Daimyo's assassins, nor did they appear to be hostile or rather large in the scheme of things... But rather alone, little more than a shadow at this distance lingering around the side of the well.

Approaching, Ayakashi opened her mouth in a loud greeting, walking with somewhat of a limp, holding her side which stretched into a rather large purple and black bruise which stood in stark contrast to her pale alabaster skin.

"Ahoy there, mind giving me a bit of a hand? I seem to be having a little bit of trouble... walking."

Aya smiled, moving closer and closer to the well and the body that was hugging beside it, hopefully they would hear her voice and adhere to her call. Though Ayakashi had been wounded by the assassin, much of it was surface wounds, little internal bruising or damage and few deep cuts or holes which could not be healed by even some more basic medical ninja. The fighter that she had dealt with, had come off a little worse than she, having taken cuts and burns from her two swords as well as frost burns from Ayakashi's jutsu forcing him to retreat on the back of his horse, some form of chakra ability much like body flicker, but able to be used by his pet as a means of transport... She had to be honest, that horse was almost worse than he was, a constant heavily armoured distraction which did not relent in its pursuit of her, constantly interrupting her battle whenever she had the upper hand. Pushing the assassin to the brink of defeat before he was saved by the strength and power of his mount...

Each time, like being rescued bought sorrow to the mans' face.

The wish he made was somewhat ridiculous, although it was a honest ambition. Something that he strongly has a liking to, yet lacks the power to make that wish a reality. It was an odd feeling that he had. A feeling of disgust? The disgust that he had to rely on wishes to push himself towards his future in the hope that it would give him aid in accomplishing it. However, not much to his surprise, this would all be in vain in the end. With his body weight leaning towards the well, being supported by it, his mind was almost set to leave the area, seeing as he had rested up and no longer had any business being here. The state of the well as well as the location it’s hidden it still got to his curiosity. Nothing but the well stood here, so there must be a significant reason. An important piece of history, perhaps. Without using his hands, he pushed himself off the well, looking over his shoulder, what he thought would be the last time. It wasn’t only til after he set one step into the opposite direction from where he heard the loud voice coming from. A call for help, yet the tone of the sound didn’t seem like the individual was in panic, but still rather calm. He turned his being around, narrowing his eyes and fixated his vision upon the thick mist behind him. The blackness of a figure swayed closer and closer to him. The immature thought that this would be another illusion quickly passed his mind as he realized that this was the person that indeed called for his help. Trouble walking, indeed. Not even seeing the person’s features yet nor the wound on the body, he could easily determine that the individual wasn’t steady on her feet, in fact struggling to reach the helping hand, which was Rei in this case. Not waiting while the figure reaches him, herself, he made a steady pace towards it and met it somewhere halfway. Slowly but surely with every step that he took, the mist in front him cleared a little, revealing yet another piece of land but immediately clouding the rest in front of him. In just a few seconds, the mist around the figure had cleared and revealed the features. Although not as perfectly clear as it would in sunlight, they were easy to recognize. Realizing this, his eyes widened once he identified the person calling for his aid. Mizukage; Solstice Ayakashi. This was a rare meeting under the weirdest circumstances that Rei could even imagine.

Aside from realizing that this was indeed the leader of Kirigakure, he almost immediately took note of the wound scattered across her figure; the black and purple bruise stretched across her sides and on top of that a few cuts and holes. It seemed rather severe, even for what Rei himself had been through in the past. “Mizukage..” He quietly spoke, his eyeballs moving from left to right, up and down to attempt and scan the condition of Ayakashi. He clicked his tongue and narrowed his eyes in disappointment. He was no medical ninja, so he didn’t know if he had that knowledge to proceed and apply first-aid on her. His mind wandered off for just a few seconds, but even in those few seconds many questions crossed his mind. The one that stood out the most was why was Ayakashi in a condition like this in the first place? Was there an attack somewhere? Almost hearing his own neck crack, he rapidly moved his head from side to side to see if any of the attackers were near, then again, he didn’t expect the Mizukage to allow them to follow her. Perhaps she had already fended them off. His focus found itself back to Ayakashi, throwing her arm around his neck to give her some support to stand on, seeing as she’d barely be able to walk on her own. Instead of staying here in the mist, he found it wiser to take her back to the well. The questions would come later. Lending her the support she would need, he made a slow pace towards the well, careful not to make her feel the pain of the wounds even more. The ancient well came back into vision. Right now, they’re both completely hidden in the mist. Should the attackers come back, they would have trouble finding them. Removing Ayakashi’s arm from his neck, instead of putting her on the edge of the well, he set her down, sitting on the ground with his back against the side of the well. She shouldn’t be on her feet right now and instead take it even, not putting any more stress on her body. He just hoped that this wasn’t the last he could do.

It brought him back to his wish. What was it? He was trying to recall it, but since he shrugged off the possibility of it working out, he had trouble remembering it. Seeing Ayakashi condition, however, added with his incapability of his persona, it all made it clear to him. In fact, did it actually work? What I wish for isn’t power, nor might. What I wish for.. is the strength to make a difference. The image of when he made that wish flashed back across his mind, for a split second replacing that image with Ayakashi’s being. Really, it’s no wonder why he couldn’t recall a wish like that. It just seemed immature.. Childish.. Being what he’s been through, he should know better than a wish couldn’t make the difference and he had to seek out that strength by himself. But just now.. did his wish actually been called? Normally, not being the person to look at like this, but could it have been a sign or a hint from something beyond his own control? His brain actually hurt thinking about subjects like this as well with the questions that rapidly popped up, unable to think and answer them all. He knew that he didn’t have the strength at a time like this. To make a difference. The one with more experience however, would be the Mizukage herself. She was still conscious, quickly laughing off the thought in his mind. Of course, she is. It’s the Mizukage. He knew that in order to make a difference right now was to ask her direct instructions and while he lends her a hand, she lends him a hand in exchange. It was pathetic that he had to ask her in an atmosphere like this, but he had no choice. Opening his mouth with a sign of hesistation, he spoke, though calmly. “I’m a person with little knowledge regarding wounds like this. It’s difficult to ask of you while you’re like this, but since you’re the one with more experience, I can’t help but ask for your instructions of how to go through this in return.” He got right to the point. There was no time for introductions or mindless chatter. This was urgent in his eyes. “It’s difficult to admit, but in an area like this, clouded by mist and not near anywhere civilized, what supplies should I use..” His tone in that sentence showed that while he spoke that, he was deeply thinking. He couldn’t let Ayakashi do all the work, he brainstormed just as hard. Trees.. Leaves.. Bushes.. Plants.. He scanned all of those objects, even some of the insects that might’ve been in the area, but he had no clue, at all. It wasn’t difficult for him to obtain the ingredients he would need, but knowing their effects and uses would be a no-go for him.

At just the last second, he thought of something. In order to stop the blood from leaking out any further and avoiding any more danger, the wound needs to be put pressure on. He needed something that he could wrap around her cuts and bruises. What could be used for that in a forest? He looked down towards his own clothing and that was the only thing he could think of. Without even thinking twice about it, he removed the vest he wore off his upper body, wanting to use the entirety of it for pressure.. Using one of his hands to move Ayakashi off the side of the well just a little bit, he wrapped the vest around the stomach of her, covering the cuts and holes. There was nothing to put a knot in, however, as the vest had no sleeves. The one thing he could use for that was his belt. Keeping the vest around her stomach together, he used his free hand to remove the belt around his waist, using that to keep the vest together without the help of Rei. “This should at least keep pressure on the wound..” He was somewhat satisfied, having done this without the aid of the Mizukage. Of course, although he asked for her help before, he couldn’t stand being helpless. Perhaps Ayakashi had done this more efficiently than what Rei had just done. For now, he fell on his butt, supporting himself by placing his hands beside him on the ground and catching his breath for a few seconds.
