Mission rank: A
Objective: Investigate the bandits and intercept to destroy them.
Location: Sunagakure
Reward: 400
Mission description: On the southernmost shore of the land of wind, there have been reports of docking bandits at night, however, any sentries sent out by the feudal lord have not returned. Sunagakure shinobi have been called upon to investigate these bandits, and to discover what they are up to. It is expected that the leader of this crew, a renowned bandit named 'Bearpaw' is leading this bandit troupe, and is planning on sacking the city. Intercept and destroy.
Mission details: Minimum 2500 words, minimum of 9 days with each day counting as a post. Perform this well and do the village proud. Each bandit is armed to the teach while “Bearpaw” uses wolverine abilities. Take him out at all costs with whatever you can, do know he is not made out of adomantium.

Day One

Going through the thought process of listing off all his equipment and if he had them on his person was the first thing he had done once he deemed himself fully prepared to leave. Seiryū knew he gathered everything, though it never hurt to double check before he left, for it would be too late if he left the village and had forgotten something. Turning back and returning to the village would waste an unnecessary amount of time, but it could also be an option not available to him if he had already traveled a significant distance. Best to be sure before he actually left Sunagakure no Sato. Seiryū, having finished up the process of mentally going through his weapons, had everything on his person and there was little else holding him back from leaving the village; he needed to leave to aid his restlessness.

His apartment building, the only home he’d known for the past five years, remained bare of valuables. Having to leave it unattended was no issue for Seiryū, as the likelihood of someone entering was slim and anything they could take simply didn’t matter to the Special Jonin. Simply put, Seiryū could care less if his home was invaded during his absence. As much crime as there was in the slums, the likelihood of having thieves breaking into his home was even less, for they would know they’d gain little value from robbing those in the slums. Having already locked the inside door to his apartment, Seiryū made his way towards his bedroom window, which he’d simply jump out of, though closing it behind him as a slight deterrence to people wanting to break in. Honestly, it likely didn’t even matter if he left his front door unlocked.

Day Two

Today would be another day full of travel of getting to the southern shore. Depending on how Seiryū paced himself over today and the next day would determine when he would arrive at the southern shores of Kaze no Kuni. Ideally, he planned to travel for the majority of today and tomorrow, though taking his time so he’d arrive on the fourth day of the mission. He knew what he would mostly come across during the days he’d be travelling, and most of it would be barely anything of significant importance. He’d be able to stop by a minor civilian village tomorrow night, getting a good night’s rest before he’d arrive at the southern shore where he’d need to be on guard at all times.

Ideally, Seiryū wouldn’t come across any unforeseen circumstances on his way to the south. Of course, he couldn’t predict the future, so he truly didn’t know what the next day would hold for him, nor would he be able to prepare for it except by being cautious. Though for the rest of today, all Seiryū would mainly come across would be the deserted desert, the varying creatures of the sand, and cacti. Releasing a sigh, not really bothered by the isolation he would feel over the next couple of days, Seiryū could feel his restlessness from the past few days easing in the slightest. Maybe it was just getting out of Sunagakure no Sato temporarily that allowed him to relax a bit more. It wasn’t that he despised the village, but rather he simply wasn’t sure what could really be done about it. The village was still alive and thriving to degree, but Seiryū felt there was certainly more that could be done that wasn’t being done.

Day Three

After having travelled for the entirety of the previous day, Seiryū found he could take a bit more time pacing himself for today, as he would either arrive some time during the night tonight – after midnight, or just pushing it off to the following morning. Currently it was only just past five in the evening, indicated to Seiryū by the position of the sun. He debated the pros and cons of arriving at either time and the conclusion he kept coming to was that the sooner he arrived, the better – especially under the cover of night where he’d be able to get a base for reconnaissance down about how many bandits he would be needing to take out.

Seiryū would need to utilize his weapons efficiently, for he likely wasn’t equipped with as many arrows as there were enemies to kill. He’d likely needed to get up close and personal to kill a few of them, after picking off a few of them from a distance with his bow and arrow. The true planning for that occasion could be figured out once he got an estimate of their numbers. Seiryū needed to whittle down their numbers enough that he could deal with their leader ‘Bearpaw’ on a one on one confrontation. Considering he was the man leading the troupe, it was likely he was above and beyond the minor goons that followed his instructions. The main issue that Seiryū would have to deal with would be the numbers advantage, but so long as he’d be able to pick them off one by one, he’d be able to do this mission without too many complications.

Day Four

It was just after midnight, likely half past. The darkness that took over the expanse of desert didn’t create a situation where Seiryū was blindly walking forward. Rather, the lighthouse that illuminated the harbour nearby was enough of a guiding light for Seiryū to continue forward. Anything that was in front of him he could still see faint outlines of and there certainly wasn’t much in the way of object that could be a detriment on his path towards the portside town. The harbour was where the mission documentation detailed that the bandits had been docking before moving further inland. It was likely, that even though they entered from the docks, that they moved away from the area to settle a base of operation. Blending in was fairly easy to just about anyone and bandits truly did benefit from that simple skillset.

Nearing the town, Seiryū could see people the size of ants – from his current perspective – milling about the streets. Even though it was just past midnight, there was certainly a nightlife to the town. It wasn’t one that was as bustling as Sunagakure no Sato’s or other larger villages, but it existed. Seiryū’s identity would easily pass for being a shinobi which may alert the bandits, should one come across him, but he knew it wouldn’t matter in the end, only it would make things slightly difficult should they catch sight of him before he formulated a concrete plan for taking them down. His first order of business, as of now, was finding a place where he could spend the night. Considering the size of the town, it would be fairly easy to find an inn.

Day Five

“Tetsui, you do know Bearpaw doesn’t want us to venture to far away from the base.”

“Naizen, live a little. We can’t be cooped up in a warehouse all day. I just want to get some food and then we’ll head back.”

“Do we need to go this far out? There’s that Umami Sushi place just a block away from where we’re holed up. If Bearpaw hears about how far out we go, who knows what he’ll do to us.”

“Like I said earlier, don’t worry about it. The Grumpy Bear won’t even know we’re gone.”

His purple orbs watched them walk away; going in the direction Seiryū initially came from. He watched them continue moving, no longer caring much about their conversation, but rather making sure they wouldn’t catch sight of him once he began making his way towards where their headquarters was located. Once they were far enough away, Seiryū stepped out of the alleyway he had jumped down to from the rooftops and back on to the street. He’d get back to moving around on the rooftops soon enough, just for now he needed to make sure there wasn’t another group that would be following them. And, not to his surprise, the remainder of the road was littered with civilians and nothing more. No one who stood out as a bandit or anyone that looked at him warily. He was fine to continue moving towards the base, just to know the location of it. Later, likely tomorrow, he would officially scout out the base and see how many people he was truly dealing with.

Day Six

Seiryū continued to watch the entrance from the top of a building two buildings over. This one gave him a better perspective also a bit of cover to scout out how many people came and went from the warehouse. Being at a height greater than the other building’s, Seiryū noted that the guards that were posted on the roof were fairly limited and would be fairly easy to eliminate under the cover of the night sky. It could certainly be a bit more difficult during the night, since if they were smart, would be more focused on the auditory cues. Nights were often more quiet, and this particular district was most certainly deserted by the general population after the clock struck nine in the evening. If he wanted to dwindle their numbers, he’d have to do it soon, before the actually decided to launch the attack that was reported that was going to happen sooner or later. Seiryū needed to take over the rooftop first and then work his way inside of the building.

While he had seen numerous bandits entering and exiting the building, thus far there was no sign of this ‘Bearpaw’ that was heading this operation. He needed to wait; wait and see if the Bearpaw would actually show up, so he could get a rough estimate of who he would be dealing with. He would continue to wait, see if there was anyone that stood out in one way or another; be it his stature or the way to other bandits regarded him. Unfortunately for Seiryū, the hours he spent here resulted in nothing. It was likely best for him to return back to the inn and develop some plan to get inside the building.

Day Seven

Seiryū looked down at the lifeless body, another life that he had taken with his very own hands. There was no blood on his hands; he made sure of that, since he’d been able to kill the male by the use of his arrows. It took three in rapid succession, two to the chest and one to the man’s right thigh to take him down. From there, all that was left for Seiryū to do was slice the man’s neck open with his kunai. Seiryū had found the bandit just outside the town’s exterior buildings. He wasn’t someone that was leaving the village, but rather one who was making his way towards it. What was also slightly surprising to Seiryū was that the individual’s face wasn’t one he recognized. He had taken out a few bandits so far and this was another. However, all of those kills had been people leaving the town or within it; never had it been one who was entering. Having taken his arrows out of the corpse, Seiryū began searching the body, in case the individual was carrying something of importance, something that could tell him about what the bandits were planning. A bit of searching had led Seiryū to discover a piece of parchment, a letter to be exact.

“Taichi,

I'll be returning in a two days’ time from the time you see this letter. See to it that everything is ready for when I return. I want to be informed of what has happened since my leave from Usae.

Kojiro the Bearpaw”

This put a time constraint on what Seiryū had left to accomplish. Tomorrow, he’d need to get rid of the majority of these bandits so he could deal with this Bearpaw one on one.

Day Eight

Clearing out the rooftop of the warehouse had been an easy task, for there were only two guards posted on the rooftop. Considering they stuck close to one another while scouting out the streets, the ideal time to take them out was when one had their back to the other. Otherwise, should they stand next to each other, Seiryū only had a limited window to strike both of them down, as it was likely one would see their companion fall over and begin calling for help. Seiryū wasn’t in a rush to take them down, he had three hours before sunrise and that was more than enough time for him to dwindle down their numbers to a reasonable amount the he could be left solely to deal with Bearpaw the following day.

The moment came after just another seven minutes of waiting. Just a second after Seiryū noted the two were diverting paths temporarily, he drew out an arrow and quickly notched it back. After taking a brief instance to aim his projectile, such that it would strike one of the bandit’s in the neck, Seiryū released the bowstring to let the arrow fly towards his intended target. He fell down instantly once the arrow was lodged in to the side of his neck. The other bandit, having heard the noise immediately turned in the direction of his compatriot. Before he could even fully turn around, Seiryū launched another arrow, taking care of the second one. Now, it all was just a matter of entering the warehouse and stealthily dwindling their numbers down.

All that was left for Seiryū to deal with in the town of Usae was the Bearpaw. There still remained a handful of bandits that were aligned with the man, but Seiryū doubted they’d follow through with the plan their leader had set in motion if over half their forces had been eliminated. It was even less likely for them to follow through once Seiryū delivered the killing blow to the Bearpaw.

Right now, the man in question was charging at Seiryū, his right hand fisted and drawn back, ready to explode forward at any moment to strike at the man who had destroyed his forces and foiled his plan. Seiryū himself had his bow readied with an arrow drawn back, just as eager to end this conflict and return back to Sunagakure no Sato. His restlessness eased over the past eight days and he felt it wouldn’t return to him once he was back in the village.

“I’ll kill you! You bastard!” Those words, aimed at Seiryū, would certainly be his last if Seiryū had his way. Letting loose the arrow he was aiming at one of Bearpaw’s eyes, Seiryū felt a bit of remorse – which instantly washed itself away – and relief that this would certainly be over and done with. The larger man began slowing down, not fully reaching the archer and hunched forward, screaming and holding on to the arrow; unsure of whether to pull it out or not. Seiryū silently stepped up behind the man, pulling out his kunai which he’d use to slice open the man’s neck and consider this mission over and dealt with.
