Colors of the world bled into one another as an individual raced across the terrain, never slowing even as the terrain changed as the country was left. Moving at speeds far succeeding anything the untrained eyes can track and the brain perceived. Nothing more than a blur, a fleeting image within one's own peripheral vision that's there one moment and gone the next, making one question if they even saw anything. Even those with some training in tracking high-speed movement, having acquired it throughout their profession, found themselves struggling with tracking said individual and garnering any detail about them.

Why others were having trouble in capturing a clear image of the person speeding by them, the individual, on the other hand, wasn't having said problems. Even though they were moving quickly, their eyes took note of everything within fine detail. Nothing, of importance, escaped the well trained optical organs. Something the individual was internally grateful for giving his line of work and reputation that came with it. Wouldn't do being taking out by someone with a grudge or a young upstart wanting a shot at quick fame. They would be the laughing stock of their fellow peers and punch-line of many jokes. A small smile graces their lips at the sheer ridiculousness of that happening to someone like them.

Yes, such a notion was highly absurd!

The terrain changed once again, they having exited the small country which once was home to Kusagakure no Sato but now nothing more than a tourist destination, and entering into borders Tsuchi no Kuni: their homeland. A more familiar territory, and arguably a comfortable zone for them. Not like they would openly admit and acknowledge it. Still, being a familiar place didn't cause them to lower than guard. If anything, they became more aware of the surroundings, keeping a look out for any potential threats. There was a nigh chance of them being attacked. Their reputation being more thoroughly known within the homelands than in other parts of the world. Mind you, not due to anything on their part, but rather, the sometimes overlooked and not taking seriously, gossip of civilians and off-duty shinobi alike. Hence, them remaining vigilant while on their home turf.

The individual's speed began to falter when a recognizable mountain came into view: a few kilometers away. There wasn't anything out of the ordinary regarding the large chunk of land mass. Nothing to make one expect it being anything but a natural land formation. Only those apart of Iwagakure's military corp knew the significances of the mass. It isn't uncommon for hidden villages to place multiple checkpoints throughout their country, each being camouflage in a way to blend in naturally with the surroundings to the point many would have simply overlooked it if they didn't know it was there. Iwagakure isn't an exception to the rule with their checkpoints being inconspicuous as possible.

Having slowed down to a steady jog and then a full on stop, a kilometer or so from the mountain. The individual didn't bat an eyelash at the displacement of air and abrupted appearance of two Iwa-nin clad in an Anbu armor variant. "Halt, who goes there?", asked the leader of the two-man squad.

Calculating eyes glanced over to the one who remained silent, allowing his/her superior speak, and took in their staunch stance and hand that was deadly close to the tanto on their persona. A newbie. Were the individual's thoughts before deciding to speak and put the two at ease, after all, there wasn't a need to cause a scene. "Iwagakure Sannin, Guanyin, Nanashi.", the now identified male spoke. The squad's leader didn't show any outwards of being intimidated by the man a front him, a professional, instead, releasing a strong pulse of chakra that hammered into a front of him.

The assault of chakra didn't phrase the Sannin at all. He has felt far worse. And the chakra itself wasn't meant to do any harm to him, only dispelling even the strongest illusions and other chakra-related techniques others used to seek into the country. If an imposter tried to enter the country and came by one of these checkpoints,  they would be felt out quickly and dealt with accordingly. What followed next was a few security question, and look at shinobi id, which, after the leader was satisfied, gain Nanashi's access into the base. With him only spending a few minutes dehydrating himself and restocking used supplies before heading on his way. His movements being a blur once more.

Unlike the three days, it took him to arrive in Tsuchi no Kuni, him having to cross a couple of countries and dodge patrolling shinobi, it only took him a few hours to reach the gigantic gates that stand as a line of defense for Iwagakure no Sato. Just like earlier, he was halted at the gates as the guards checked over his documents, making sure everything was in order and the papers being 100% legitimate before handing them back and time stamping his arrival time: 9:45am.

Stepping through the gates, Nanashi turned his to the right, spotting a lone Anbu watching him from the rooftops and disappearing when his position was comprised, most likely going to tell the uppers echelons of his arrival. Considering the length of time he has been missing from the village, roughly three months and one week since the Chuunin exams ended, there would undoubtedly be meeting, either with them or Akira, where they question is whereabouts and reasoning for not returning till now. Knowing it was bounded to happen soon, he didn't waste time running across the rooftops to head to his place of residence, instead executing a smokeless body-flicker.

After thoroughly checking every ounce of his apartment for anything out of place or potential nasty surprises left by kami-knows-who and finding none, asides for a letter left by his mother. Mentioning something in regards to finding the location or the blueprint of a lost Guanyin artifact that might interest him. Taking care of those things, Nanashi went about refreshing himself, changing out of his current attire and putting on a kimono after showering, of course, and went into his work study and went over some jutsu theories that was theorized before he had left for the exams. Before he could even sit down and enjoy the comfortable chair, there was a knock at the door.

Opening the door, Nanashi came face to face with an Anbu member who, upon seeing the Sannin, spoke his reasons for disturbing the man. "Guanyin-San. Karumo-sama told me to escort you to his office upon being notified of your arrival.".

"Karumo, asked you to escort me to his office?", the rhetorical needed not to be answered, Nanashi was merely speaking out loud as he thought about the information gleaned from the individual before him.So, it would seem some things have changed since his absence. The shinobi who he took on a bandit mission long ago was now in a position of authority to order Anbu around. What all had happened? What exactly occurred while he was away? Normally, even while away, he would've some inclination of the village state of affairs, mostly coming from people who knew him and was in a profession/position that allowed for such knowledge to be obtained, however, this time around, he had been busy and most of those acquainted with him was trying to find information on some personal matters. And because of this, he wasn't informed on what transpired in Iwagakure.

Something he wouldn't let happen again.

"Where is Karumo's office located?", he voiced. Of course, the question was meant to find out what position the should had landed, but there was also another reason, which the Anbu will find out very soon.

"In Diamond Heights University. He is the headmaster of the institution." The Anbu answered without pause. The Head of Diamond Height University. Wasn't Akira the head of that establishment? He mused, though knowing he wouldn't get any answers just by standing here, he closed and locked his door before executing a body-flicker, leaving the Anbu behind.

Appearing a front of the university and walking in, Nanashi went up to the reception desk and ask the receptionist where the Headmaster's office was. Having acquired the information, he navigated the halls, passing students and some teachers who were making their way to or from class, before finally coming to a stop at the Headmaster's office.

A swift series of knocks followed with him announcing his presence, "Karumo. This is Guanyin, Nanashi.".

Karumo stood at his desk, a map spread across it with several markings and identifiers on it. A true high definition of the earth, showing the landmarks such as mountains, there wasn't a bit of detail missing as far as the landscape was concerned. The lines and contour points marking mountains all began to blend in together as he hardly was able to keep his attention devoted to any one part of it for very long. The strain on his eyes were growing by the second and he merely wanted it to be over with, honestly, he wasn't even sure why he was looking at it any longer. No amount of re-examination would change anything, he'd memorized every detail in the short amount of time he stared at it and there was nothing that would escape his vision. No, he just didn't like what he saw and wanted to find more. Desperation if anything.

The map itself, marked territory outside of Iwagakure no Sato. There were actually three maps in itself, all stacked on one another and each one marking different parts of the Wilderness. The first map at the bottom of the pile was a small mining operation in the Valley of Mountains, its importance could be highlighted upon, but there was a chance that it was being used for more nefarious purposes and under the supervision of the company in charge. Well, perhaps the company knew nothing of it yet, but the on-site crew was on the wrong side of some nasty rumors.

The second map, showed Rockhenge, a place Karumo had never actually visited in his time in the village but knew about. Legends of foreboding chakra and evil rituals being performed there, but allegedly, there was an access point to get underneath it, an evil organization performing tests and such down there. The truth to which was probably far skewed, but given a recent slurry of disappearances in the area, mostly children and such, it was worth investigating. And why not start with the legends of old?

The third and most concerning map lay atop the others, this one was marked and had time-lapse changes. This map was not of any specific location but of a small town out in the wilderness of Iwagakure. It was famous for its production and manufacturing of certain medical supplies and antidotes, being a huge economic point for the country and providing Tsuchi no Kuni with one of the largest per capita GNP of anywhere else, next to the village itself. This town though, had recently been under surge, corruption in industry and corporate greed. Things of that nature that turned many of the rarer medicines into great upturns in prices, and at the same time, a large number of deaths growing within the city and the disparity between the poor and rich growing at an extreme rate. That situation in itself had him concerned, organized crime and things of that nature always bred in areas where goods were made and people were to extort, but the sheer number in increase and lack of communication, it was like the town had shut itself off from the outside world.

Karumo sat down at his desk, a bit of a heavy thud and a sigh as he crossed his arms and folded his hands across his stomach. He couldn't be sure, but in each case, the reports of events all seem connected, like it was the same MO each time. And that was also concerning, a group acting at such a large range and almost unnoticed until now. That gives them time to infiltrate infrastructure, it's the level of corruption and crime that the village had all but eradicated years ago. A deep seeded hatred for such, and as this group was burying their roots into the ground, it would only mean that they would have to tear up more dirt to remove this plant. As he thought to himself, his thoughts were interrupted by a series of knocks on the door, a call out from a somewhat familiar voice claiming a familiar name.

Karumo sat up and placed his hands on his desk, sliding his chair forward to sit more under it and called out, "Oh..." at first barely audible, but he might be able to hear it if he were trying, "Come in! Come in!" the second bit he was almost yelling, exclaiming it so that it would audible from a few feet away from the door. Giving it a moment for the door to swing open and let him enter, an old face he wouldn't have seen since a mission such a long time ago.

Once Nanashi would enter he would motion him to the desk, "Come, take a seat, relax a little. After such a long journey you must be tired, but I trust it went well? And that you got my note?" he would say with an inquisitive glance to him. The formalities of the situation would be of little annoyance, it's not like he was in a rush but he did hope to get straight to business soon. This was after all why Karumo had asked for the Sannin to come visit him, and why he needed his help as well.

No sooner after announcing his presence was a barely audible exclamation was heard by Nanashi from the person who wanted to see him in the first place. Assumptions could easily be made over the cause of the exclamation, however, the thought of entertaining them wasn't something he had any attention of doing.

No, his mind, only briefly, thought of the whereabouts of the rookie anbu who had greeted him a front of his home, and subsequentially left behind when the Sannin didn't need nor wanted an escort, no matter who had given them the order to be one, and left without much warning. At most, only a few minutes had passed since his arrival to the University and to where he was standing now: a front of the Headmaster's office. Plenty of time for even the less competent Anbu, or regular shinobi for that matter, to arrive. The fact that a member of Iwa's elite hadn't spoke volumes of their discipline . or lack thereof. Having been a part of the said elites, he knew first hand the strenuous training all trainees go through oppose onto them by the captains who receive their orders from the commander. Making what regular Jounins go through look like a walk in the part. And knowing the commander, whoever they might be at the current time, wouldn't slack on their duties, made Nanashi question what the hell has gone on since his departure?

Another question to add on to a growing series of them that he wanted answered. While there is a good chance some will be answered in the upcoming meeting, something Nanashi was possible of happening, others will have to wait till he had time to seek them out. For, depending on Karumo Sekuro's position of authority, there are some questions needing answers which would raise some flags from those not close to the Sannin or on a more legal side of things. And it's that exact reason why he couldn't risk inquiring them from Sekuro. He doesn't know where the man stood. Does he follow things by the book? Or does he allow the lines to blur, so long, a favorable outcome comes out of it? Would he grow suspicious of being asked about some of the more delicate topics of Tsuchi no Kuni? Would he tell  his superiors of said questionings, warning them of a possible threat ahead of time? Nanashi honestly didn't know. Spending time away from home, he didn't have the opportunity to build a work friendly relationship and learn more about the man. A small oversight that worries him little. He will just seek out friends who will tell him everything he needed to know.

With permission to enter given, he grasped and turned the doorknob, pushing the door open. Stepping through the threshold, eyes locked on Sekuro. Sitting them a desk with different documents about on them, but the most prominent thing, and what grabbed his attention momentarily, being the maps laying atop of one another. Though obscured by the top map, he still could make out some details of the other ones, some makers and identifiers being visible. However, the top map drew his attention more than anything else on the desk. An extremely detail oriented map which, from what he can garner with a glance, had time elapsed stamps place near varying parts of it. "Thank you.", getting comfortable in the chair, though admittedly slightly more comfortable than his own chair within this building, "Yes, everything did go well. Though there were some hiccups but nothing of concerns." One hiccup being the incident with his student, former student, Yuurei, Jet. The woman, though he had no concrete evidence to support this, only assumptions, having someone to put a low-grade exploding tag in his room he had rented. The resulting explosion causes only minimalist damage to him. With the only thing truly hurting him was paying for the damages done to the apartment. "I'm rested enough to function adequately. I didn't make the journey home without stopping for some rest, hence, me arriving three days after receiving your letter.", he admitted. Only doing so out of formality, and so it wouldn't be asked later on.

"How have you been? You seem to be doing well for yourself.", glancing at the desk tag, "Karumo, Sekuro. The headmaster of Diamond University.". Although he didn't voice it, a question was hidden within the statement. The Sannin wanting to know when Karumo-san had acquired the position that once was headed by the Tsuchikage. The question wasn't asked for the mere fact he got the impression this wasn't a social meeting, but something of importance. For, never was there an incident of him having a social meeting with someone when Anbu was required to escort him. So, what would be the chance of that changing anytime soon? Highly unlikely.

"Should we get done to business? From what I could gleam off the letter. Tsuchi no Kuni and Iwagakure's once dwindling pest problem has suddenly spiked.", calling anyone or anything that threaten the country such a derogatory term, "So, what has happen since I been away? How big of this problem do we have on our hands?" Nanashi asked casually, though with a hidden hint of seriousness.

With Nanashi bringing up the contents of the letter sent to him three days ago. The time of formalities was over. And the start of business has just begun.

Nanashi sat down in the chair, Karumo leaned back some and kept his eyes trained on him, listening in on his bit about travel. Realistically, as good as anyone could ask for on a long journey away from home. A self proclaimed successful journey and nothing major to worry himself; at the end of the day, that was all anyone could really ask for. Along with that he was well rested, an even better sign, thought the journey from the land of lightning back to Iwagakure no Sato was certainly no easy trek. He couldn't hold him taking a break against him in the slightest, a three day journey with rest and a two day journey without rest. The difference was negligible and Karumo was in no rush, at least not yet.

Karumo smiled a bit with a chuckle at his comment about being headmaster, it hadn't occurred to him until that very moment but, Nanashi had been away since he had received the job. "Lots has changed. Or maybe nothing major, but there are certainly lots of moving parts from my point of view at the very least." he paused and let his attention briefly roll around the room while he gathered his thoughts. Leaning back into the chair slightly before continuing on, "Well, we all left the village around the same time. Me, you, Jet, Fukai, Harichimo. Most of you headed to Kumo but Harichimo and I to Sunagakure no Sato, as you're probably already aware. When I returned back to the village I was met with a coup attempt from the clan. It resulted in the death of two of the clans elders, and my remission of the clan leader spot." he would take a quick pause and let Nanashi briefly intake that new information while he would grab the white coffee mug and take a sip. Nothing but water, but he wanted to clear his throat and find where to go on from there.

"Since then, I turned my attention to the village, I don't even stay in the clan compound anymore. I've been put in charge of the university for the last few months and I joined the ANBU as the Captain of the Oracles." he would pause and look around. "On another note, did you happen to meet an ANBU agent at the gate? He was one of my rookie trainees. Now that I think about it, he never showed up?" he looked for a brief moment, whether Nanashi knew or not didn't much matter. He just chuckled briefly at the thought of him running around the village trying to find the gate. A bit of an exaggeration at how useless rookies were, but he found a bit of humor in it.

Then the next bit came, the part he was partially reluctant to want to get into purely on the basis of how little he actually knew. His ANBU squad acted as the information center, the database of all the village, and yet he had no idea where to begin or how to truly put the pieces together. "No, we should get to business. That's why we're both here after all." he would pause and stand up, pushing the maps closer towards Nanashi in case he wanted a closer look. "There are two parts to my problem. Neither part has been to publicized so I'll go over them both. First, I've been working with Fukai on and it's part of the problem. But Lord Akira is away from the village, headed to the land of Water for some international politics of some kind. That's all I really know about that, but in the time I've been serving in interim, I've been having problems with the other ANBU divisions. Fukai is helping restore balance in some manners but in the meantime, I can't rely on them to handle this stuff."

He would pause briefly before going on, "The second part is an old problem you're probably aware of. Old corruption under a new name and spread like a wildfire right under our noses. I've marked a few facilities and things on those maps if you'd care to look. But even with that, we know almost nothing as a whole. If you don't mind me asking, how involved were you in Lord Akira's clean up of the country when he first entered office? I know that he made great strides in ending corruption and cleaning up crime, but I'm worried that this new grou may be a familiar face rising from the grave. And, rising with a bit of a grudge..." he would trail off and leave to Nanashi to respond.

Indeed, his assumptions had been correct. Changes had occurred within Iwagakure no Sato during his time away, and he, unfortunately, had missed it all. Of course, blame for his absence didn't all fall on him, the Tsuchikage had ordered him to visit Kumo for a diplomatic purpose; gaining a potential alliance with Kumogakure no Sato. However, garnering an audience with the Raikage was easier said than done, especially considering how many other diplomats and political figures were there wanting an audience as well. After trying a few time to gain a meeting with the man, Nanashi had given up on the endeavor entirely. If the Raikage couldn't find time out of his day to make way for a conference with someone looking for an alliance then he wasn't worth the time. Iwagakure could do without someone like that, especially considering what else happened within the man's country. Though, none of this would be brought up unless the conversation steered in that direction or Karumo asked for some specifics.

Pushing any thoughts on the happenings of Kumogakure to the furthest corner of his mind, Nanashi shifted in the chair, getting more comfortable as he listens as Karumo spoke about what he had been up to. No emotion, except stoicism, was apparent on the Sannin's face, even at the mention of his former student,  as he thought about the implication of the Tsuchikage sending Karumo and Harichimo, a medic that Nanashi briefly knew about, to Suna. Nanashi assumed Akira didn't just send the two into Kaze no Kuni country on a whim. That the man had an interior motive for sending the pair into a country where Iwagakure no Sato had no allegiance with. It being one of the few countries that didn't have any form of alliance with Tsuchi no Kuni. Therefore, it didn't take him that long to figure out the reason behind Karumo and Harichimo being sent there. It was to get an alliance with Sunagakure no Sato, and with it secured that mean only Konohagakure and Kumogakure were the left out.

He briefly wondered if anyone else realized the implications of Akira's actions. If the alliance was indeed successful, and if the Tsuchikage wanted to, and with the aid of allies,  he could successfully rage war against Konoha, attacking them on two of three fronts, land and naval, with any possible help coming from Kumogakure being delayed due to the distances needing to be traveled. While it's unlikely something like this would ever happen, one can not take away the fact of Akira securing Iwagakure no Sato's as a powerhouse within the Elemental Nation. If not due to it's military strength but because of the alliances made.

Fleeting but nevertheless being noticeable by the man before him was Nanashi's stoic face contorting to anger, at the mention of a clan of Iwa trying to commit a coup, and quickly going back to the stony expression. Seeing how the coup failed, Karumo a front of him being proof of that, Nanashi's anger was easily dissipated. "You mentioned two of the elders are dead. But, what happened to the other two? Did they have any involvement in the coupe? And is it safe to assume that all other parties that were involved were handled appropriately? " he inquired. Personally, Nanashi didn't have many interactions with Fantomusodo's elders, having only met them a hand full of times, with those moments being brief at best. Because of this, the demise of two of them didn't affect him at all. Their coup failed - simple as that. What causes him to show a silver of emotions was the thought of the coup endangering innocent civilians. "So, who is the clan head now?", he asked, wondering who had taken the position once Karumo stepped down.

Nodding his head in approval of Karumo becoming the caption of the Oracles, a position that was in need of being filled, "Congratulations on the appointment. You seem to be handling the two positions well. ", he complimented. "No, there wasn't an Anbu at the gates upon my arrival. Though, one did show up at my apartment an hour or so after I arrived home, claiming in being my escort to your office. I told him, I would meet him here, but when I got here, he wasn't anywhere in sight.", it was plain as day that Nanashi didn't care much about the Anbu member and found the situation somewhat humorous. "Seems like Anbu needs better training.", an off-handed comment summing up Nanashi thoughts of some of the current Anbu member. They were supposed to be the elite of the elite, yet, one, despite them being a rookie, manage not to keep up with him?. How pitiful.

With pleasantries coming to a close, there was a noticeable shift in the air within the room, as Nanashi, nodding for Karumo to continue,  mentally prepared himself for what he was about to learn.

Nanashi didn't exactly know Fukai, however, he had only heard good things about the man before his departure to Kumo. And with Karumo filling the role as Tsuchikage, even if it's just momentarily, the Sannin could only assume that Fukai was trustworthy and deserved the praise his colleagues have given him. He wondered briefly if Akira's going to Mizu no Kuni had something to do with that Kumo-nin going missing during the tail-end of the chuunin exams? And the subsequentially rash, yet justified,  actions of Sanosuke ordering the arrestment and jail of all Kiri-nin still within the borders. Were those things connected? It was something he could think about later. The pressing concerns were with the problems within the other Anbu divisions, his include.

The thought of his division causing problems annoyed the man greatly. He will handle them personally. Before he could voice his thoughts on the matter, Karumo spoke of something Nanashi was intimately familiar with - corruption.

Nanashi remained quite, even after Karumo gave him the floor, gathering his thoughts in a coherent manner and speaking once he was satisfied. Determining an order for the subjects to be brought up in so that everything flowed together smoothly. While talking about the festering corruption would've been a good start point, that will be saved for last, there was much to be discussed there, it would be best to handle the division problems first, they being the less concerning. "You mentioned having problems with the other divisions. What type of problems, exactly?  There shouldn't be any reason for shinobis within these divisions to cause unnecessary problems. They were trained better than that, at least I hoped. What does the leadership look like amongst these divisions? Asides from the Oracles and Medical corps, I'm not aware of any other leaders, not like that excuse members actions. You also mentioned Fukai. What is his role within all of this? I can only assume he is taking a leadership role?", he paused, allowing Karumo to answer the questions presented. "As for the medical corps, I will be heading there once I leave here. And I will be personally dealing with any problematic shinobi within the division. If you allow me to.", the last part being added as an after-thought. "And I will help you any way possible.", he said committing himself to help Karumo straighten out the mess among the divisions. Rather, Nanashi did this out of love for Iwagakure or for some other reason, remains uncertain.

Standing up, Nanashi moved over to where the maps were laid about. Eyes scanning over each one of them, capturing every minuscule detail presented. "My involvement wasn't as much as you might think. Yes, I did help Akira with the removal of some cancerous stains infesting the country, but my role was minimal at best. But, I do know my fair share. I hope this room is secured.", he spoke, looking away from the maps to look at Karumo, giving the man time to secure the room. Once done, Nanashi continued speaking, "One thing you should be made aware of is the Daimyo's court is corrupted. Members have their hands dipped in some unsavory businesses. Everything from drug and slave trades. The latter seeing women and children sold off across the nations. They being at the mercy of the buyer. ", he paused to allow the information to sink in. "I have a certain relationship with one of the court's member. She being responsible for removing from active duty for an extended amount of time. And I also have plausible cause she was behind Sakino Marise, the former head of Iwa's hospital, disappearance.", he spoke, giving Karumo a summary of what he knew about the Daimyo court's dealings. He hoped Karumo didn't ask where he came from this information from, that was something he didn't want to get into.

"This appears to an old group. Don't you think if someone new moved in we would've have heard about it now? Yet, this group has managed to grow right underneath our noses for how long? And without raising any types of flags. It takes a group familiar with Tsuchi no Kuni to pull something like this off. Tell me, ", moving the maps detailing rockhenge to the forefront, Nanashi's eyes narrowed slightly "When exactly were you made aware of this corruption? Was it after Akira left for Kiri or beforehand? Also, has anything been discovered at Rockhenge?", waiting for the man to respond.

"You mentioned two of the elders are dead. But, what happened to the other two? Did they have any involvement in the coupe? And is it safe to assume that all other parties that were involved were handled appropriately?" Karumo mused over the thoughts in his head as he thought about how to best answer it. It was an event that had been put to rest, drudging up old problems would never be for the best but closure would also only be able to put an end to a lot of worries and... well close up anything to do with it. Nanashi continued on though, "So, who is the clan head now?", he would add in. Karumo sighed a bit, relieving a bit of pressure from his chest, or would it be his mind in this case? His thoughts rolled over as he began to respond, "Of the other two only one had any involvement although it wasn't a severe amount, he retreated from being involved in the true bloodshed. He was dealt with... in our own manner. So yes, everyone involved is now aware of the consequences of their actions. And Ezra Fantomusodo is the current Clan Head, though I have a feeling he shares the same isolationist ideology that the others did as well..."

His bit was only a half truth in the regard that the full story wasn't fleshed out. It wasn't that he didn't trust Nanashi, but they had bigger matters to tend to and going back to write over the wrongs of a clan bent out of shape were pointless. That could be dealt with later once all else was taken care of and restored to balance, or at least stabilized. The conversation continued on, congratulating him for joining the ANBU and such and retelling the tale of his alleged ANBU escort. Karumo would chuckle along and scratch his neck briefly, "Thanks, they definitely do need more training. Or maybe you just move too quickly for them." he would taunt, giving a tone that he was joking around. He knew that the rookie ANBU were no easy thing to train, but hopefully by the time he was done with them and his division more organized, there wouldn't be a single shinobi they couldn't keep up with.

With pleasantries out of the way their conversation moved to business, where things would begin to grow and the plot would thicken. Karumo gave his rant, all of it from Fukai and the ANBU to the potential return of old enemies or surfacing of new threats. It was all a bit ambiguous for the time, even with all their recon and intelligence not much would be discovered until they started their operations and could get men on the inside of their system. Nanashi started by inquiring about the ANBU, a problem that he had entrusted to Fukai but there was no reason that Nanashi also couldn't be aware, given their position and what they would be setting out to accomplish.

"Fukai is acting as eyes and ears on the inside of the operation, and assumedly taking the lead. The problem isn't so much open subordination or a lack of training leading to failure. The missions assigned to them are going tremendously and without backlash. However, I have a slight sneaking suspicion that certain groups and tasks aren't being fully fleshed out. Details of missions left vague and gaps in the timeline. Not that it has to be a problem of course. But when working in the darkness, any goals second to the mission being sought out and completed or other tasks being prioritized against the village is problematic in itself. And that proves a problem in itself and I think you understand why." he paused for positioning and to move onto the next point.

"As far as I know, it's not outside the Crimson Elite, which leads me to believe that if it is a growing problem then there's a central focus for said problem as well. Which is what Fukai is working under, through whatever means necessary." he took his cup up and took another sip of water. "As for helping, I intend to focus our time on the external and existential threat looming outside our walls."

The conversation moved on again, this time to the history of the village and admittance of the Daimyo's court as well as a connection that Nanashi had. It was news to Karumo, but not a surprise, the fact that those in power with money tended to do whatever to expand upon it. There were those that involved themselves in economics, making money off the simple transfer of money and corrupting themselves in non existent fields and driving inflation. The ethical wrong. Then there were those that would invest their money into darker territories, of course with higher risk but with a far greater return than normal. The moral wrong. But no matter what involvement in the darker affairs of the world would lead to a response in the darkness that they so policed.

Karumo wouldn't press into details of the Daimyo's court, not until it was absolutely necessary, god forbid he find out that they were a greater evil and he would throw himself into fighting his own country. What a troublesome endeavor this was all turning out to be. His questions then turned to the group itself and the apparent lack of information itself. Karumo mused over his thoughts, there was certainly a lot to go over and very little for him to actually say that wasn't almost pure conjecture. "Well, it could be an old group which would explain its size but not its slow upbringing. The territorial expansion we've seen was slow and methodical, everything was built up in firm roots and tough to fight against. It was like they were coming back not with a vengeance but with the intent to survive." Karumo paused for a moment and cracked his neck, "If it were an old group then we would anticipate a fast and loose approach to infrastructural changes and some sort of repeated MO from the last time. Now, maybe they got smarter or new leadership is changing things up, but we honestly don't have the intel to hardly make anything greater than grand standing around the identity."

"This bit of corruption I found out about after Lord Akira had left for Kirigakure no Sato. I've been working heavily against organized crime in Iwagakure no Sato for some time, this was just the next case that was brought up I suppose. Perhaps too late to truly be effective though..." he would pause and sigh, scratching at his temple a bit. His eyes rolled away and over the maps before he spoke up again, "As for Rockhenge, we have no idea. The passage under doesn't reveal much outside the disappearances and such, never in daylight or when multiple people are around. Often times it's kids of families alone and wandering around, but it probably is a good place to start the investigation. Laying a trap is extremely risky but not addressing one of these situations is worse." Hopefully this much would at least get the conversation going here, they would need to act soon and with some haste.

"If we're going to start with Rockhenge, the two current plans we have would be to either invade the facility directly, perhaps a stealth or covert operation? Or we lay a trap and find out what's truly happening to these disappearing persons, though that contains an extreme bit of inherent risk... " another pause. "What do you think about it all?" Karumo would ask him, leaving time for an answer. It would certainly be a lot to digest and formulate on, given the scenario and how little was really being shared at this meeting.

"Of the other two only one had any involvement although it wasn't a severe amount, he retreated from being involved in the true bloodshed. He was dealt with... in our own manner. So yes, everyone involved is now aware of the consequences of their actions. And Ezra Fantomusodo is the current Clan Head, though I have a feeling he shares the same isolationist ideology that the others did as well..."

Few seconds passed by with Nanashi not speaking, instead, he mulled over the information provided. While no longer holding prestige positions of the old, that did little to stop him from looking after the denizens in the inner walls and boundaries of Tsuchi no Kuni; even when his mask of indifference and cold disposition say might otherwise.

Nodding his head in approval of Karumo's handling the situation. Though, the sentiment didn't reach his eyes which held a look of dissatisfaction in them. It being apparent he didn't wholeheartedly agree with all the actions taken to secure this semblance of peace. Something he let known, along with giving him a warning, although he wouldn't spend much time on the matter, there being more precedent concerns to address. "First, I commend you on handling the situation. However, it would be a lie, to say I agree with your choice of allowing those two elders to live and putting someone who showed signs of the same ideology as those punished. Ideally, you should have kept the position, till a suitable replacement is found or one is personally groomed, before stepping down and resuming your other responsibilities. If I remember correctly, Fukai is also apart of the clan. You could've appointed him. This way, you have someone you trust in as clan leader, who could shape of the and remove any tarnish attained from this fail coup. But, you didn't do any of this, and theoretically, almost in the same position as before. A clan head who might share the same isolationist viewpoints as the previous elders. With two of them being alive and possibly, whispering into Erza's ear. I know, our ideology is different from one another, but take my advice as a former shadow, sometimes the true enemy isn't the one with the dirtiest hands.", With his peace said, the subject wouldn't be brought up anymore, at least not by Nanashi, for he had let his thoughts be known. It will be up to Karumo to either dismiss the warning as nonsense or not.

The conversation moved onward with a few lighthearted moments in between. Nanashi congratulating Karumo for joining Anbu and becoming the Tsuchi no Kuni, even if it was temporary the accomplishment shouldn't be overlooked or taken likely. Not anyone could become an acting Kage on current Kage's befall. It took someone the Kage trust without question and believed could handle the burden that comes with the job description. He joked with Karumo about allowing him to train the Anbu trainees/rookies, though making no promises of seriously injuring them or causing some to leave and seek psychology help. The joke referencing his track record of training others, particularly an incident with a certain genin Uchiha who sought him out and ended up with most of his flesh dead. Needless to say, only the foolish or brave come to Nanashi for training or a sparring match. The pleasantries slowly winded to an end as the reason for the meeting commenced.

However, before getting to the heart of the matter, Karumo brought forth the troubles within the other Anbu divisions, and how Fukai was helping to restore balance. With so few people actually helping to curve this problem, the process was a slow one. Nanashi did nothing to hide his displeasure at the implication of the medical division being a part of the problem. Asides from acquiring about the leaders of the other divisions and what is being done. He let his annoyance be known, telling Karumo he would personally handle the problems with that division.

With a better description of what's going on was presented to Nanashi, the aggravation he had with the Medical Division dissipated. It's good to know the divisions were running smoothly, somewhat, with the current leadership in place. What's discerning is the vagueness and inconsistency within mission reports being turned in, it could only mean, "Could be they have a hidden agenda and are using these missions as a ruse to complete them. And whatever this plan could jeopardize the village. " He interrupted, briefly injecting a statement before Karumo carried on.

Nanashi didn't know if Karumo heartily believed that the problem was contained in only one division. Surely there's a good chance it having spread to others, given Crimson Elite is the division all the others answer to. And despite what other captains want the populace to believe, they are not entirely in control of their division, for things must be approved by Crimson Elite's commander. Seeing how Karumo had someone handling the situation, Nanashi didn't bring up his own assumptions, having been made aware he's here for another reason.

Like every country, Tsuchi no Kuni has it's fair share of dark secrets that those in power try to keep hidden from the populace. Secrets which, if ever come to the light, could very well ruin the lives of thousands and damn many. Activities are able to operate with little suspicion due to having people in positions of power who is helping for some reason or another. Of course, not all shinobis are privileged to this information, Nanashi only knowing about some of the darker secrets because of his short tenure as Tsuchikage, and his times a part of Anbu before it became it's current incarnation. It's because of what was told that Nanashi had a relationship with a certain councilwoman who eventually became too paranoid for her own good, leading to some problems for the Sannin.

It's what Nanashi learned from the woman which would be told to Karumo. How the Daimyo's court is corrupted to it's core. How many members have their hands in some unsavory activities, while others turn a blind eye to the dealing. The secret was spilled with Nanashi giving Karumo minimal account of what the court does. There is more. . . a lot more, but for reasons, Nanashi couldn't.

When Karumo didn't accept the silent offer to press for more information regarding the information present to him, Nanashi moved on, asking about the group gaining ground within Tsuchi no Kuni, and on any discoveries made at Rockhenge.

Listening to Karumo speculate about the group that has been gaining traction within the boundaries without tipping us off till now, Nanashi began to rethink his earlier assessment. Though, he kept his comments to himself, eyes focusing on the maps laid before him, as Karumo spoke about Rockhenge - giving him something else to think about. Only when Karumo gave him the floor did Nanashi speak. . .

"It's not too late to make a difference. The hard part is finding how.", Nanashi spoke in an attempt to encourage Karumo. It would do neither of them any good if Karumo didn't believe he could make a difference. "While I firmly believe this is indeed an old group. We also need not cross off the possibility of this being a new one from outside our borders. Remember, at one point in time, Tsuchi no Kuni was like a safe haven to missing-nins and ronins. So, there is no telling who could have snuck in during then. As for why a new group would come here? There is a lot to gain on the outskirts of Tsuchi no Kuni. There're certain areas not heavily patrolled, and towns barely guarded, all which is ripe pickings for a group to take advantage of. ", Nanashi paused, giving Karumo time to think about what was said and make a comment if necessary.

"But, let us go with our first theory of this being an old group.  Their slow and methodical approach can mean a few different things. One, the leader(s) knows what he/she is doing and have a specific endgame in mind. Two, having failed once before, the leadership is more cautious and paranoid, hence the slower approach. The third possibility is, the leadership could be taking orders from someone else who isn't apart of the group. ", he paused. "You been dealing with organized crime since Lord Akira left, correct? Have any members been detained, and if so, any information extract from them? They could very well have information that could help us. ", he asked. While it's a longshot, there is a chance of a detainee knowing something. One just has to figure out how to obtain said information.

"If you haven't already, might I suggest placing undercover Anbu within that town? You can have them pose as civilians who want to settle down in a quaint town. Of course, you would have to draw up falsified papers for them to make it seem legal, and make sure their backstory is concrete enough so that their cover can't be blown. This way, you have someone in the town who could feed you information. " he suggested.

Looking over the map of Rockhenge, Nanashi mulled over both options, weighing pros and cons of both before speaking "I normally would say lay a trap, but, the fewer people who know about the better it is for us. That way it's less likely whatever down there could be tipped off. So, I say, do a covert operation with a hand full of your most trusted Anbu members. But first, we need to narrow down the time frame for these disappearances. It will give us a timeframe for the operation. Also, maybe look into the background of the missing families? Maybe there is something that links them together that we could use to our advantage." Nanashi spoke, waiting for feedback from Karumo.

"Oh, I'm sorry..." Karumo continued on after he started his response, "I didn't mean to cause any misunderstanding. When I said that they were taken care of in our own manner, they both fell and are dead. The one of the three left alive is in charge, but he wouldn't be so bold as to try anything, he wasn't at half their xenophobia either. On top of that, he sees reason from time to time and can be controlled. Consider it more my own delegation to the position. If anything big arises, he can be controlled with ease...." Karumo smirked a bit into a laugh and continued on.

Afterwards their conversation moved onto the criminal elements that Karumo had been looking into, his piece already given for the most part. He was right, this village used to be quite the conundrum in the types of personalities it attracted and let in. Karumo was a firm believer in second chances and never judging a book by its cover but the history of some can far out weigh any potential future for them all the same.

Karumo would give off a bit of a smile already as he ended, Nanashi was thinking ahead though Karumo was already one step ahead of him on that much. "Of course I've already set up a couple ANBU agents in that town, though, I wouldn't worry about their paperwork or anything." he chuckled a bit.

"It's all part of a clever ruse really, I used some contacts at the university, set up an independent research facility in the mountains of the terrain and all, it's rather top secret and all. Basically we're granting their geological research for the time, while they hired an 'independent' security group to protect their facility." Karumo would add air quotes around independent to give some light to the idea.

"It's like a 10 man research team with 2 to 3 bodyguards on rotation already, to the criminals it will look fairly routine and negligible unless they want to try and invade that facility... but I doubt so. There's no money to steal there, not for some simple bandits at least. They should all be set up within the week and will start feeding us information as time goes on and their investigation continues, my hope is that the extra security will be ignored and on top of that, those agents aren't allowed to engage with them unless absolutely critical so everyone will mind their own business for the time being..." he continued on. The conversation shifting towards Rockhenge, a far more uncertain topic on the whole,

"As for laying a trap, I would normally like the idea, strike first and ask questions later is a decent enough tactic. These are mostly simple bandits after all and not a trained fighting force from another nation, but there is still too much I don't know about all the circumstances around it. But you're right, there is a lot of information to gather and seemingly random attacks could shed light to some new information or leads. Investigation aside for the time being, I really don't like waiting long for information while anything could happen unchecked..."

He continued on, glancing up from the paper before them, "I'm very tempted to go out myself and deal with this once and for all, maybe take a squad of ANBU with me all the same... or maybe some old friends with skills that exceed even my own?" he gave with a sly smirk. He didn't know if any bit of temptation would convince Nanashi here or the challenge of such, but at the very least, he felt a heavier response from the village was needed in some form. Covert operations wouldn't mend the worry and minds of the citizens of the country, and the Daimyo would not allow inaction in the name of secrecy. It was a tricky precipice that these problems sat on, where the village and people want action and results but the ninja aren't prepared to move in. Not to mention any mistakes or forgetting part of the scab that these infectious bandits were meant that problems could arise later on, just as an old group returning to power when the job wasn't complete.

For now though, Karumo would wait and see where this went and what Nanashi thought about the rest of the plan and his idea to go after them himself. If he cared in the slightest that is, maybe he would just humor for the time being until something more concrete and certain came about.

Wrong. Nanashi's assumption about Karumo was proven wrong with the temporary kage's admission of deposing the other two elder clan members instead of letting them walk free, as his earlier statement might have suggested. Thinking back to their prior conversation, he should've realized the hidden meaning behind those words then, but instead, he quickly jumped to a conclusion based on his own personal opinions of the man before him. Admittedly, his assessment of Karumo is base on a handful of encounters, with none being nearly long enough to mentally pick him apart, hearsay from gossiping shinobi, and other factors. And through that, Nanashi formed his own opinion of Karumo.

Is it wrong? Yes. But, he didn't see any reason to concede to a point only known by him. Was it judgmental on his part? He didn't believe so. Considering how many in his generation appeared to be soft, talking the same old rhetoric like those before them, but lacking the guts, the balls to do what is needed when the situation calls for it. An ever increasing annoyance to him, especially when most of these shinobis have the potential for something greater than what they were, yet, many prefer to follow the same ideology and mentality predecessors, never learning from their mistakes. Disheartening really, but there's nothing he could do, they will do what they believed what is right, even when history proves them wrong. While he might not like it, he would still deal with them in a cordial manner . . . in most cases. But, Karumo surprised him greatly, apparently having no problem with getting his hands dirty when the situation calls for it; and for that, the temporary kage garners Nanashi's respect, a little.

As the conversation shifted into more serious matters, Nanashi giving his opinion on the situations at large, and was now waiting for a response from Karumo, he waited patiently.

While he had thought, Karumo would need more time to come up with a response for his comments and suggestions, it seemed like the kage was a few steps ahead of him. Good. If this is the man who Akira placed as his substitute while he went gallivanting in Mizu no Kuni then he, Karumo, much have a sharp mind like the former. Having a sharp and quick mind is one of the reasons why he followed and respected Akira, him having strength matter not for even an idiot can become strong. And, if Karumo wanted the same respect, he must show similar traits. Nanashi would never follow someone lacking an  intellectual mind lesser than his - Tsuchikage or not.

"Impressive.", Nanashi thought, having found out his earlier suggestion of sending uncover agents in the town had already been deployed ahead of this conversation. Karumo having the smarts enough   to be proactive against the unknown force, instead of, waiting to console him for advice. This did bring up the question why was his thoughts on the subject was asked? Was it more out of curiosity? To see their plans of action aligned up with one another, or least have some similarities? Or was it just to get validation for the plan in motion? Nanashi did not know.

"Well done.", Nanashi said, complementing Karumo, "Our ideas seem to have been similar, although, I would admit, yours was better planned out than mine. The use of using contract through the university to set up an independent research facility is smart. It's not something we probably haven't done before. Therefore, no one suspicion should be aroused from the maneuver. " It's a good idea, Nanashi didn't have any problems with it. Karumo was showing the former Tsuchikage that he had the mind to handle this job if he attains it permanently in the future.

Although, a spark of curiosity aroused in him at Karumo's insistence of calling the group bandits "You keep saying they are bandits. How sure are you about this? Do we have any proof of them being simple bandits? I'm not trying to question your judgment. I just don't want to be overlooking something by believing this group is simply bandits." He spoke his concerns about the matter, hoping to get confirmation on the type of people they are dealing with. Moreso, if there wasn't any concrete evidence supporting Karumo's claim, Nanashi believed that would change within the following week or two.

Rockhenge. With the conversation having shifted back to the more concerning of the topics, Nanashi listened to what Karumo proposed after his own plan was made known. "Something that slipped my mind till now.  Is we could make use of the Kamizuru and Kuma clan respectively. It's not uncommo to find their type of summons or seijutsu pets around the area. Surely, we have members from those clans who specialize in information gathering, or am I mistaken?". Nanashi stated, giving Karumo a possible way to gather the information he sought.

At Karumo's not-so-subtle suggestion, Nanashi chuckle, calming down to give his response, mirth being evident "Flattery. But, you are mistaken. I'm just a humble medic who is in charge of saving lives, not taking them." Of course, everything he said wasa lie, Nanashi was a farcry from the typical medic of the olds. The oaths taken to not kill till everyone was saved didn't apply to him. Furthermore, the man is a reaper first and a guardian angel second. "Lets be honest here. I haven't had a decent mission in awhile, and my skills might just be a bit rusty due to the burden of running the hospital and a division. But, I'm positive I could provide some assistance in this endeavor." How serious was Karumo? Did he really want Nanashi's help in handling Rockhenge? He should know about the silver haired male and his reputation. So, the question is,

Did Karumo really want to unleash pestilence?

Praised by Nanashi for being at least a few steps ahead but Karumo didn't necessarily see it that way or feel like he'd done anything spectacular of that sort. But then again, they weren't throwing any parties yet either. However, Nanashi was right in some regards, he didn't know that they were bandits. They were little more than ghosts and in the case of Rockhenge, they may have to be literal ghosts. He would speak up calmly in response, "You're right, we really don't have the recon or awareness of what or who they actually are, so it could be anyone or anything in the long run. But historically, the village has been affected heavily by independent missing shinobi from other villages who, as far as I know, acted by themselves too. Other than that, various bandit and mercenary groups are most prominent, so even if they're not in charge, profiling-wise, it makes the most sense that the man power is coming out of those groups, and that's where we'll probably get the most answers early on too."

Though the prospect of crashing into known bandit groups and starting their interrogation was a rather loud way of going about it. Not to mention that if they wanted word of their progress to spread quickly, that was a guaranteed way of letting the underground hear their stomping feet from a distance. He continued onto another good idea though, Karumo hadn't thought much of the summoning and sensory clans native to the village. He didn't know of any prominent members off the top of his head in the ANBU black ops, but certainly substitutes could be made if any could be found, that wouldn't be a problem in the slightest. Karumo would nod along and offer a small bit in response, "Of course, would also be good to get the clans more active in the village too. I'll see what I can dig up..."

Their conversation would move on though, Nanashi denying the bravado that was rightfully due to him. Compared to Karumo, he actually had the physical skill and experience to be the Tsuchikage, even if those skills were rusty or however he would choose to go about describing them. Karumo would smirk and laugh a bit at him after he offered his assistance, almost going as far to scoff, not to be rude or anything, but he found it funny. "Power and instinct don't rust like bones and joints do my friend..." he would offer with a smile as he almost couldn't help but find the thought funny, "And for a Sannin of the village, we can definitely make use of your skills in many varieties, even if you've forgotten that nickname of yours that seems to float around the village so often..." his smile held to a smirk. Of course, he was talking about the Pestilence of Iwagakure no Sato, but that would be up for Nanashi to connect the dots. Karumo wouldn't waste any time in pretending to build up the confidence of his ally, that would be done on his own and with his own prowess.

Karumo would exhale and sigh a bit shortly after, "But yes, if you have the time, I could certainly use some help and expertise on the sting operations and investigations I'll have set up in time..." Karumo thought briefly on it. It wasn't something he would do for most other ninja, offer them a mission and all. He wondered if Nanashi had the same sense of duty that many other ninja held and that pushed them to action, if he didn't and refused his request, maybe Karumo could make some plea to him to reconsider or rethink it.

If he accepted though and understood the task before them, Karumo would leave off with this in return, "In the meantime, you can relax, train or whatever it is that might help clean some of that rust up. Otherwise I will probably be contacting you personally when we learn more and the time comes..."
