He would not surrender to death. Not here. Not now. He was way too young to die, and he had too much to live on for. He had already tried to find a way to fly out of the Underworld that he had spawned in by capturing the legendary bird Aosagibi; however, that didn't work out so well. Still, he did not give up. He had thought back to an old tale that his grandmother used to tell him known as "Naruto and the Ramenstalk". In that, a boy named Naruto climbed up a giant ramen noodle hanging from the sky; similarly, Kashizudoto had wondered whether there was a way to climb out of the Underworld, as he knew that his coil of wire wouldn't reach nearly that far. The kind street vendor spirit who had originally suggested hunting Aosagibi, the Heron of Blue Fire, when he had looked for a way to fly out of the place immediately suggested that he hunt down a giant plant known as Furutsubaki, the Ancient Imbiber. Apparently this plant had innumerable long vines on which the young sannin might be able to use to climb up. Even hunting down this monster didn't help him get out of the Underworld, it'd probably help the denizens of this place. He'd find a way out of death eventually; he was too stubborn to die just yet.

"Any tips for dealing with this plant?" Kashizudoto had asked the vendor spirit. He needed to know all he could before facing it.

"Unfortunately," the kind vendor spirit had explained, "We don't know much about Furutsubaki, the Ancient Imbiber, except that it restricts anyone who tries to get rid of it with its vines. It's really painful, I hear. We just don't know how to get rid of it. Sure you don't want your paper fan back, sir?" Honestly the Underworld wasn't particularly hot, so the young sannin didn't care much for it nor did he particularly like taking gifts from people without giving something in return: he always just felt like he owed that person forever until he gave them something of equal or greater value himself.

"Nah, he had told the spirit before embarking to the forest to find the plant, "I'm good. Really, I am." With that, he turned around and headed off with his hawk perched upon his shoulder. Dead or not, he was getting out of the Underworld. He had on his usual attire, even when dead. He wore a black swordsman's robe, a gift from his Master Piandao (technically, his late Master Piandao since he was in the Underworld with Kashizudoto). On his left hip, he had on a bamboo sheath holding his meteor sword, the Tentetsutou; he hoped to enchant this katana one day so that it could match up with Piandao's Dragonslayer. Next to it, he had on his fifty meter coil of wire, which had saved his life countless times but did not come to his rescue when his head got chopped off at the drop of a hat. Underneath, he had a holster containing one kunai and three shuriken, basic projectiles that had really lost their value ever since he got his katana. With all this, he was ready to cut down that pesky plant!

He ventured through the deep forest carefully, watching every step; it reminded him of Konoha's Dense Forest a bit, the one that kept it mostly hidden, although while this place smelled of a relaxing yet omnipresent incense, Konoha's forest had the odor of various plants and animals, all living in what at least seemed to be harmony. As he was relatively experienced in travelling through the forest as a Konoha ninja, he didn't have much trouble plodding through it, save for getting tangled in a few minor plants that only proved to be a minor hassle in the long run. It took quite a bit; however, he eventually did spot a giant pink flower with a large stem and countless vines. If this wasn't Furutsubaki, the Ancient Imbiber, then pigs could fly.

He did what any other Sarutobi in their right mind would do: light their sword on fire and charge in! Besides, this was a plant right? It only made sense that cutting through it with fire would do the trick, as fire could burn through a lot of the floral material. Of course, there was only one way to find out; however, he didn't want to get caught up in all those vines, so he created a half-tiger with his left hand and summoned four shadow clones in the air in front of him with their swords also aflame.

The four clones charged forward into the flower with the original Kashizudoto close behind. They, as a team, cut through countless vines that tried to grab them while the original stopped in his tracks and stood behind to analyze the situation now that he was close enough; when any vines came and tried to grab him from the rear, he cut right through them and continued taking a detailed look at the situation, but he was relatively safe compared to his clones, who were chopping through vines until they eventually reached the flower.

The four clones sliced and burned through a giant part of the flower; however, this was their last slice, as the vines would come up from behind and constrict all four of them, visibly draining their energy. Was this why this ancient plant was called the Imbiber? Knowing that they would only serve to be a nuisance if they stayed, each clone prepared to dispel itself and leave the original as the only Kashizudoto left standing. Damn it!

While Kashizudoto breathed heavily, his heart pumping vigorously with every breath, as he'd exhausted almost all of his chakra by now, the flower seemed to regenerate from the damage, each part coming back anew. Wait, so this thing could regenerate its damage too? Then how was he supposed to beat it? The original slashed with his sword to release an arc of katon chakra at the plant in hopes that it would not regenerate; however, it just regenerated like the attack was nothing. Where was the source of this thing's healing chakra? It couldn't have been just from the clones, that wouldn't be nearly enough chakra. Well... Plants were grounded into the soil, right? Perhaps there was a way to deal with it straight from the source...

Kashizudoto Chakra:
Name: Sword of the Will
Canon/Custom: Custom
Rank: C-A (Utilized at A-rank)
Type: Supplementary
Element: Katon
Range: Touch/Self
Specialty:Bukijutsu or Taijutsu|Sarutobi Paladin
Duration: Maintainable (cost dependent on rank)
Cooldown: Duration +2 (additional 1 per rank over C)
Description: A member of the Sarutobi Clan who has chosen to follow the path of the Paladin can use this jutsu. The Sarutobi coats their weapon (or their body if they have no weapon) in katon chakra, augmenting their attacks with Katon. Whenever they land a blow the Sarutobi will also burn their opponent on the point of impact, though with blades this will also cauterize an opened wound. The damage done is dependent on the rank of the jutsu.

C-rank: The strike will cause a second degree burn at the point of impact and up to one inch away, first degree burns sprouting up to two inches from the point of contact.
B-rank: The strike will cause a third degree burn on the point of impact and up to one inch away, second degree burns moving up to two inches and first degree to three from the point of contact.
A-rank: The strike will cause a third degree burn on the point of impact, and up to three inches from the initial area of impact.

A suiton jutsu of one rank lower will completely cancel this effect, as long as it hits the weapon (or the body). The jutsu can be maintained as long as the Sarutobi chooses to pay the chakra cost.

Name: Shadow Doppelganger Technique (影分身の術 ~ Kage Bunshin no Jutsu)
Canon/Custom: Canon
Rank: B
Type: Supplementary
Element: None
Range: The clone can be created up to 6 meters away from the user.
Specialty: Ninjutsu
Duration: Until all clones are dispersed
Cooldown: Three posts after clones are dispersed.
Description: Shadow Doppelganger Technique creates up to 4 clones of the user. Unlike the regular Bunshin, these clones are actual copies, not illusions. The user's chakra is evenly distributed among every clone, giving each one an equal fraction of the user's overall power. Because they are created this way, even the Sharingan and Byakugan can't distinguish them from the original. The user of this technique must form a hand sign to create the clones, they cannot form them simply by will. The clones will be created in roughly the same physical condition as the original (wounds and buffs/debuffs/special effects present on the user are copied over upon creation); also, the user must equally divide their chakra among the clones, potentially using up all their chakra quickly if the user is low on chakra or makes too many clones. The clones are capable of performing techniques on their own and can even bleed. They can also disperse on the user's whim. A characteristic that is unique to the Shadow Clone Technique is that any experience the clones gain during their existence is transferred to the user once they are dispersed. This makes the technique ideal for spying, since the user can simply send a clone to spy on a target, then have the clone disperse itself without returning to pass the information back to the user. Anomalistically, Kagebunshin are immune to the paralytic effects of Genjutsu B-rank and below. The user regains the chakra the clone had if and only if s/he disperses it of his/her own will; it takes a 1 post prep to disperse.

The clones constricted by the vines were finally able to dispel, bringing back new information from the front and, more importantly, whatever chakra they had left after they were half-drained by the Imbiber. He'd have to make do with whatever energy he had left in him, as he couldn't lose this like a complete buffoon. He needed some way to get below ground, but how? Just how could he do it? Well, he had knowledge of the doton element; however, he had no way of actually digging underground with it. That said, he did have a way of breaking through the ground with one of his techniques, perhaps it'd be able to reveal whatever energy source that the plant had underground. He focused a fair amount of his remaining energy into his next jutsu: the Tearing Earth Turning Palm, a simple technique that he had learned as a chuunin and had come in handy during his stay in Iwa a couple times. However, with the vines coming straight at him, he'd have only one chance to pull this off.

He slammed his left fist into the ground with great force as the vines wrapped around him and fully constricted him, tearing through the earth as the ground split apart into multiple large fragments. This revealed a large pod underneath the flower; this must've been the source of energy. Still, he couldn't move any of his limbs, as the vines had fully coiled around them, starting to drain his remaining chakra from his body. He stopped inflaming his sword, as he couldn't waste any more energy; as he couldn't move his hands, his sword was practically useless at this time. Not being able to move, he felt like he did when he was constricted by the shadow of the woman who had later told him her name was "Shinako Nara" after she had escaped the fight (now that he realized the truth of the situation, he felt a little relieved about the fact that she got away). There was one jutsu that he had used to destroy the shadow even when he had not even been able to move his hands to form hand seals: the Great Dragon Flame, a jutsu that allowed him to shoot out a large fireball from his mouth in the form of a Chinese Dragon Head without forming any hand seals. He figured that he could use it against this pod with a little effort.

With a new disdain for large plants, he gathered a large amount of katon chakra in his throat in the form of a thick, sticky oil; he'd need all the remaining force he could muster in this offense if it was to work. The vines gripped harder at his every limb, draining him of energy at a rather quick rate, more vines joining in as every second passed. This all hurt like hell, but if he could pull this one attack off, he could win the battle.

Name: Earth Release: Tearing Earth Turning Palm {土遁・裂土転掌 ~ Doton: Retsudo Tenshō}
Canon/Custom: Canon
Rank: C
Type: Offensive
Element: Earth
Range: 25 metres
Specialty: Ninjutsu
Duration: 1 post
Cooldown: 4 posts
Description: With this technique, the user will slam his/her fist into the ground, creating a tremor triggered by a force of chakra through the users hand. The ground around the user will split and branch out, causing some of the broken earth to sink beneath other sections. This technique will cause an opponent to lose his balance and a possibility of becoming trapped beneath the colliding rocks, burying or crushing them. In addition when Earth Release: Tearing Earth Turning Palm is used in a mountainous terrain or inside a cavern, the surrounding area will be easier to break up and will cause an increased amount of destruction.

The oil, made out of katon chakra, gathered in the young sannin's throat, as he readied for his final offensive against the plant, more specifically the pod. Meanwhile, the vines continued to constrict his every limb so that he could not even make hand seals, much less move his blade. This had to work. He opened his mouth and exhaled to let the oil exit his lips, the thick katon chakra turning into flame upon exposure to the outside, soon turning into a large fireball in the form of a Chinese Dragon Head, racing through the air and towards the pod at 35 meters per second, flying and burning through whatever vines that the plant flung its way to try and stop it.

The young sannin watched it fly at the pod with a smirk on his face; however, he couldn't celebrate just yet, as he didn't know whether this would be nearly enough. As he was restricted by a ton of vines, this was the only attack that could possibly work, and if it failed, he was a goner. Of course, since he was already dead, he'd just respawn in the Underworld once he was drained, like all the other spirits, yet he suspected that it wouldn't be a very pleasant experience to die to a frickin' plant.

The flaming dragon head devoured the pod with a certain voracity that rivaled that of the plant itself, setting the very life source of the plant aflame. He doubted that this part would be able to regenerate like the rest of the plant, and, indeed, it didn't. Instead, the pod holding the whole thing together bathed in the flames; the plant tried to quench it with its vines; however, that did nothing to stop its impending doom.

As the pod burned and burned, the plant began to shrivel, as the vines started retracting, water not being able to enter anymore and life being drained from the plant. Looks like it was finished. Still covered in vines, the young sannin watched as his flames finished eating up the pod in ecstasy, relishing after the meal even more fired up than before. He had won, and the threat had been dispatched on site. Now it was only a matter of getting out of the vines that still draped around him and returning to the city to talk to the spirits about it.

Still, he felt drained. It was if that thing was eating out of his very soul, ripping apart his dead spirit with a frightening vigor. He took about a minute or so to catch his breath as the vines loosened a little upon the plant's death; the raw strength of that plant threatened to suffocate him if he hadn't acted sooner. Damn, that thing was strong: it was a wonder that he was able to take it down, even if he was left with bruises all over his body from the vines constricting him.

He coughed up a little blood, still stuck in the vines though the plant was dead; it seemed that in the process of constricting them, they caused some kind of internal bleeding in addition to the bruising, not exactly fun for the young sannin who still couldn't accept his death. All the while, the hawk had been flying in the air above Kashizudoto, dodging the vines when the plant was still alive; it wasn't exactly sure how to contribute to the fight when the plant whipped vines at it constantly to shoo it away. It was probably for the best that it didn't get involved in the fight, as now it could help him get out of this mess.

"Hey, Hawky," he yelled out to the hawk, with pain in his voice apparent in his lowered inflections, "Mind getting me out of these vines? Even though Furutsubaki is dead now, these vines are still a damn hassle to get myself out of. Can you lend a hand, or should I say, a beak?" The hawk let out a loud screech as an indication of approval and flew down to the young sannin, perching on his right shoulder as usual. The hawk brought its beak to some of the vines strangling the boy, grabbed them with his beak, and ripped them off with force. He continued this process until he had torn apart enough vines so that Kashizudoto could break out himself without too much of a hassle.

After that shitfest, he decided that the best thing to do would be to simply lie down for a few minutes with his hawk at his side. He gazed at the "sky" of the Underworld, a big ceiling of rock, dreaming to break through it some day and cheat death with his hawk, as death at this age was unacceptable to him even though it was part of the job description of a shinobi. He could smell the incense all over the Underworld, a refreshing scent that filled the nostrils with an airy delight.

His breaths repeated in a harsh rhythm as he rolled up his robe to examine the wounds on his chest and abdomen; he was bruised all over, and badly, from those vines constricting him. Who knew that a giant plant could be so much stronger than him? He knew that he had sustained a little internal damage as well from the ordeal, not very fun at all to say the least... After taking a bit of a break with Hawky, he determined to go back to the vendor spirit's stand and report back with details on how he had defeated the Ancient Imbiber.

"Alright," he spoke as he turned to his hawk, "Since I did all the fighting, you're gonna have to do all the travelling. In other words, you're flying me home." The young sannin smiled at his hawk, who made a screech that revealed his annoyance at the thought of having to fly him all the way back to the city; however, it decided to get up in the sky anyway, grab the young sannin by his shoulder with his talons, and soar into the air where it eventually, after a few hours of flying through the forest with the boy in tow, reached the intended location in the city where the vendor spirit was.

"Well," he told the vendor when he got there, still short of breath and wounded, "I beat your Imbiber dude and... uhhh..." With that, the boy fainted to the ground; he'd just had a rough fight, vines having constricted him and dealing major external and internal damage to his body. He also had a fair share of mental exhaustion too from all the fighting; he needed a break.

He awoke in an infirmary to see the vendor spirit standing next to his bed with his hawk in the air nearby. The vendor waited patiently for the medical spirits to heal him and for him to wake up. These spirits seemed to nice to be real. Of course, being dead, he assumed that they had learned some life lessons pertaining to compassion, but it was still very odd. He could smell the incense in the room, omnipresent as usual even in the hospital.

"Nice to see you back in good health," the spirit told the young sannin before adding, "So you took down the Ancient Imbiber? You seem to have had a pretty rough fight for us; for that, I thank you. You were wounded all over and took some pretty big damage; however, the medical spirits know what they're doing and fixed you up just fine. Now you're all back to normal and ready to go." Hearing that, Kashizudoto got up and out of his bed in the infirmary, stretched out his arms, and walked out, his hawk perching upon his right shoulder as they headed out to go find some other way to cheat death, as clearly, now that the plant was all shriveled up, the vines wouldn't be particularly useful for trying to climb out of the Underworld. In any case, Furutsubaki, the Ancient Imbiber, had been taken out by Kashizudoto and Hawky. The giant plant could no longer harm the denizens of the Underworld through its soul-sucking and hard-hitting vines.
