An eerie whistle reached his ears, putting the white haired ANBU on edge instantly. Usually, Seiryū would be relatively calm and relaxed, not letting the slightest of noises deter him, but as of recently there had been moments where he knew something was off about his surroundings. No longer did Seiryū have only the peaceful atmosphere that surrounded him, for he had been constantly visited by the ghosts of his past, ghosts that haven’t forgotten what he had done nor would fully allow him to leave the past behind. As much as the jonin had tried to stray away from that life, no matter how much precaution he had taken to eliminate his ties with them, the ties had continued to exist nonetheless.

Having accomplished so much, yet so little, in the life of a shinobi, Seiryū knew that whatever actions he had taken would forever be written in the sand. They may eventually be forgotten, but they would always exist. The life of a shinobi was exactly that, numerous lives had been taken by his very own hands, all for the sake of trying to better himself – of trying to atone for his own past mistakes. Nothing that Seiryū would do, or has done, would be unwritten, for each memory would constantly live in his mind. Whether it be the memory of his abandonment by his father, his past as a supposed orphan, or his late adolescence of becoming a shinobi, all of those memories would constantly be present within the realm of his own mind – always present and never forgotten. Having no way to forget, he had taught himself to accept the past for what it was, solely to try and bring about a brighter future – one that would be at the risk of his own life at times. When it came down to the nitty-gritty, Seiryū had very little attached to his own name. Aside from numerous acquaintances who he could barely recall, a few people that could be considered friends, but unlikely to be seen ever again, there truly never was anyone Seiryū could rely on for the littlest details. He had always been alone and that pattern looks like it would continue. While Momo, a tiny female jerboa, had taken residence with him with no sight of leaving, that was the only real companionship Seiryū had over the past few months. With the exception of the ghosts that had visited over the past month and a half.

Ultimately, Seiryū knew there was only one route he could take to alleviate one portion of his past from coming back to hound him. And really, it was the most logical and efficient way to do so. Unfortunately, there would be no going back if he did so. The amount of times he encountered them in the past – with no physical confrontations – resulted in next to nothing, but he knew that wouldn’t last, not with them. He knew them, he had once thought like them, and he had been one of them at one point in his life. Thus, Seiryū knew that the only way to get them to stop was to make them stop. Really, this was the only way Seiryū knew that would cause them to stop, at least temporarily. Running, like he had been, while an option, wasn’t something he could do forever. Though, even if he did whatever idea his mind concocted, Seiryū knew that it would just create greater problems for himself in the future. It would be a start, one that would ultimately get Seiryū to his end goal, but it would be one step at a time. And, they would likely leave him be for some time, for he would no longer be in their jurisdiction for them to bother him.

Thus, with his mind set on this particular idea, Seiryū started gathering all his weaponry, ready to vacate his apartment. Turning to his female rodent companion, Seiryū would issue out one command to her, one that he hoped she understood, “Meet me where we first met. I should be there in an hour.” Then, Seiryū turned, ready to accomplish the task he set for himself.

It was just a bit past two o’clock in the morning, a time where most sane individuals would be sleeping, aside from the regular shinobi sent out on patrol during these odd hours to deter criminals. Seiryū was concerned about the patrol units, having figured out the general routes most units go on; having been on countless patrol duties in the past. The one thing he knew about most units was that they avoided the slums, at least the portions of the slums where the criminals constantly went out after dark. These were a few odd locales, but Seiryū roughly knew that these were their hideouts and warehouses for their general wares – at least knowing of one or two gangs exact hideouts. They didn’t change much over the years, wanting to lay claim to their ‘home’ turf and extending their reach outward by taking on another’s.

The one he knew of – the one he had been a part of at one point in his life – went by the name of ‘Sanguine Horns’ . Of all those who had bothered him over the past month, his former acquaintances were the primary violators of the space Seiryū wanted to create between himself and this particular aspect of his past. Other gangs knew roughly of him, having been a former enemy and sometimes ally. All of them wanted one thing, after having gathered some intel on Seiryū’s current prowess. They wanted an intimidator, one who could at least present a threat by name alone. Seiryū knew he wasn’t the only name on the list, for these gangs often went to other shinobi as well, be it Suna-nin or nuke-nin.

Of course, Seiryū’s problems didn’t lay with the well known gang members, for him killing them wouldn’t do much to soil the reputation he attempted to build to the general public – even if he wanted to remain as low-key as possible. His problems would come from the higher ups in the gang, the ones he needed to kill, at least for now. Killing them would be a problem, not for the fact that they would be a difficult kill; in fact it was likely the opposite. These men were well known individuals in the society of Sunagakure no Sato. They were respected by their peers and were established business men, known for bringing about good to the people of Sunagakure no Sato. The truth lay in the fact that these people, in simplest terms, were the parasites who made Sunagakure no Sato a ‘haven’ to other criminals. They were the root of the problem, as far as Seiryū was concerned, and needed to be uprooted for the village to be able to heal.

Once they were eliminated, Seiryū knew it would be a matter of time before someone else took their place, but it would be a start to eliminating this trickledown effect; though it wouldn’t be his problem after tonight. All he ever wanted was time to atone and simply live, something that the Sanguine Horns had not allowed him to do. Killing an established businessman, a civilian no less, who used his wealth to influence others, would essentially label his killer as a murder, or worse a traitor to Sunagakure no Sato. That, however, was something that no longer seemed to concern Seiryū. No matter how much he tried by taking other routes, this was the only way he could effectively eliminate the bane of his existence for some time. They would eventually recover and come back for him, but he knew they had numbers, but not the strength.

With all three of his main weapons – Phantom’s Recurve, Saif al Din, and Crota, the Hungering Blades – equipped on his person, along with his arrows, senbon and kunai, Seiryū was more than ready to accept the fate he set out for himself. The village had truly never been a home to him, but rather a place he was familiar with due to having grown up here. There was no place here that truly accepted him, no one who did either. He would always be that outsider and that was fine by him.

Kicking down the door to the hideout, Seiryū instantly threw all six of his senbon in rapid succession, killing one gang member after another. Having caught them off guard, as well as them being non-threatening in a physical capability against a shinobi of Seiryū’s calibre, it was a simple feat. He knew, and expected, there to be more well-versed guards he’d have to take on, as well as taking out the easiest target of them all – Nagase Genjo – the real head of the Sanguine Horns and an industry leader in the field of refining mining. Of course, the general public would not know that, for his public leader of the Sanguine Horns was a man that went by the name of Baba.

Dodging under the fist that went flying towards where his skull had been just moments ago, Seiryū returned the action by forcing the pommel of Saif al Din in to the man’s gut. The white haired shinobi had no opportunity to strike the man with the bladed edge for the loudness of another opponent had made Seiryū realize he had to be faster in his actions than he was currently being. Pivoting on his right foot, only to turn out of the way a kick thrown his way, Seiryū forced the bladed edge of Saif al Din forward, slicing the man who charged him across the chest. His goal required him to be further in to the compound, but he had already taken too long, if anything, Seiryū knew that Genjo would have likely fled by now, meaning that Baba would be the primary target in this building, if he remained a target. There was a chance he could catch Genjo, but at the rate at which his goons were coming at, Seiryū doubted he’d be able to take down the head of the dragon inside of their warehouse.

Turning back to the man who he had just hit with the blunt end of his katana, Seiryū pivoted slightly, only to deliver a quick left elbow to the side of the man’s face. With the grunt stumbling backwards, Seiryū let out a grunt before he would drive his katana straight through the man’s gut. Two more dead, resulting in a total of eight, but the ones that had fallen thus far were meaningless – there was little that would result as of their deaths. Seiryū need to kill Genjo at the very least – that would hurt their source of income. Baba’s death wouldn’t amount for much, for another could easily replace him. It was Genjo’s death that would hurt the Sanguine Horns and that was the kill that Seiryū would be aiming for tonight.

“Where the fuck is he?” Seiryū muttered to himself as he would kick the man’s limp body off of Saif al Din. With a bloodied katana in hand, Seiryū continued his trek further inside the warehouse he had infiltrated so far. He, at the very least, needed a clue of where Genjo went instead of blindly searching for him. Baba would certainly know, though the jonin may have some luck with the grunts that currently flitted about the compound, waiting for their chance to take down the former member.

With one of the ‘offices’ having been cleared out so far by Seiryū, the white-haired shinobi left the room in search to find the next one and potentially Genjo as well.

“Hey brat! Finally showing up, eh? Though you sure did a number on my men.” That voice was familiar – too familiar for Seiryū’s own taste. His purple orbs slowly traveled back to see the brutish figure of Baba standing at the opposing end of the hallway, the man’s purple hair was nearly black in the dim lighting, his choice of clothing was the same as always; a tank top that was always ripped near the bottom and a pair of jeans, both accompanied by dark brown fingerless gloves. “As much as I’d like to welcome you back right now, it won’t be without beating you senseless once more for beating my men.”

The days of Seiryū being beaten physically, and mentally, by Baba were in the past. Seiryū was no longer the scrawny kid who could barely defend himself; he was far from scrawny these days and his knowledge of self-defence was likely on an entirely different level than Baba’s. With his own face remaining neutral, Seiryū only looked towards Baba with one single intent; a need for an answer on where Genjo was located.

“I’ll only ask you nicely, once. Where is Genjo?”

Baba’s reaction was nothing more than a smirk. “Boy, you know better than to ask me that question. If he isn’t here, you already know where he is.” The taller and larger male began to rotate his right shoulder with his left hand clamping down on his collar bone. “And you won’t be getting anywhere close to him, as far as I’m concerned.”

Seiryū on narrowed his eyes, muttering out an inaudible “Fuck.” If he wasn’t here at this time, then the only place he’d be at the current time would be his house with his family. That made things slightly more difficult if anything else. For now, he had a brute to deal with. With his right hand gripping the hilt of his katana and his left grasping the sheath, Seiryū began to charge towards Baba while allowing chakra to flow in to his weapon. Drawing out the katana and then quickly beginning to strike at Baba, the hand holding the sheath following after the blade, Seiryū pushed himself forward in a spin, essentially becoming a human tornado equipped with a katana with the sole purpose of pushing right past Baba and to where he was needed.

Baba was immediately flung against a wall, still living and breathing, but injured nonetheless – for the time being. Seiryū knew he had caught the man off guard slightly, and that was the only reason he’d be getting out of here clearly. If Baba had his way, Seiryū would have been caught here in a deadlock with the larger male and whatever other cronies he had lurking about.

The user will swing the sword in their dominant hand first in a circular motion, following through with the chakra charged sheath or second sword. At the same time, the user 'kicks off' sending their body into a spin, surging forward in a line. As the user spins, they release chakra from their weapons, creating a 360 degree attack that can cut three inches into flesh, and cause major tissue damage.

Breaking in to a house had never really been Seiryū’s forte or primary mode of executing tasks such as what he set out for himself, but if he didn’t do it now, he’d never have a chance to in the future, especially once Genjo caught word of what Seiryū had done to his precious warehouse tonight. There wasn’t much damage done to the building itself, on the outside. The inside of the building in the slums was a different story, for all their merchandise and equipment lay scattered about, torn and shredded to pieces and doused in the blood of the fallen men of the Sanguine Horns. All but one of them were dead so far, for Seiryū didn’t want to waste the time with Baba when he was needed here – for this was Seiryū’s point of no return. If he had the patience – he spent the past eight or so years trying to figure out a permanent way out – to execute a better and more sufficient plan, he wouldn’t be labeled a criminal after this night, but Genjo had one of the best scenarios set for himself. A person respected by the council for his business and one of the few people that kept Sunagakure no Sato financially stable, outside of the missions that were authorized by Sunagakure no Sato to keep the economy afloat.

Genjo had security, though nothing spectacular that would stop Seiryū from entering a leaving the premise, and especially nothing that could harm him for the time being. The man lived lavishly with his family, which consisted of his wife and two children; a teenage boy and girl. While Seiryū was regretful that he’d be killing their father, that was the last factor that played a role in his decision; in fact, it played absolutely no role in Seiryū’s decision making process. He was just slightly regretful that he’d be doing this, but the positives far outweighed that sole single negative aspect of his actions tonight. They would survive and live, that was enough for they were innocent of their father’s crimes. His wife may know about Genjo’s other business and accepted it, but Seiryū knew that she played no role in it whatsoever, so the kids would still have their mother as well. They had far more than other kids had in their entire lifetime.

Spurring away those useless thoughts, Seiryū dropped from the rooftop on to the balcony that would lead him to the room that Genjo and his wife slept in. Landing silently, Seiryū reached for the bow he had equipped to his back with his right hand, while his left began to quickly make work of the lock on the balcony door. In less than ten seconds the door was unlocked and Seiryū cautiously pushed the door open, preparing to take care of this task before anything else could happen. He knew the moment he crossed the threshold of the door, it was all over, though it already was, for Seiryū could hear scurrying and shouting of the numerous guards that watched over the mansion at all times of day. These guards would find only one thing tonight, the dead body of Genjo.

Dashing inside, with his left hand drawing out an arrow, Seiryū stopped once he reached the bed of the couple – both sound asleep. At least his death would be painless – to a degree, though he deserved so much worse than what Seiryū was about to deliver. He felt sorry for the woman who would wake up to a dead husband, but that was to be expected with what the man had signed himself up for by employing and fraternizing with criminals. With his left arm drawing back the arrow, feeling the bowstring tensing as it was pulled back, Seiryū waited a second before firing the silent arrow.

More sounds could be heard, these ones nearing Seiryū’s current location. He needed to leave, quickly. Beginning his trek to the door, Seiryū forwent gathering the arrow imbedded in the man’s heart. The door to the bed room was thrown open, “Stop right there!” Seiryū didn’t bother looking back at whoever it was that yelled at him, for he was already on the balcony once more, prepared to take off in to the desert. As he jumped off the balcony, ready to land on the ground and take off in a sprint, the last thing Seiryū heard was the blood curling screams of a woman.

The cool air that always presented itself during the nights in Kaze no Kuni blasted Seiryū as he stepped out beyond the walls on Sunagakure no Sato. The jonin had no intention of staying in the village much longer than he had already done so, for he knew if he was caught that he’d be imprisoned indefinitely by the council. Regardless, there was nothing really holding him to the village permanently, there never was. The only thing that ever held Seiryū to the village was his sense of redeeming himself, something which he, somewhat, accomplished tonight. From here on forth, from tonight forward, Seiryū couldn’t remain in the village any longer, regardless of his sense of duty was accomplished or not.

Momo was likely waiting, or still scurrying about in his apartment, but Seiryū didn’t have the time to rush back to his home to make sure that Momo left. Either way, Momo had grown and matured some since he initially found her some two months ago and would be fine on her own, should she have not listened to his sole instruction. Seiryū would check the area he had instructed Momo to go towards, regardless of whether or not she would be there – he would check and then leave Kaze no Kuni.

Stepping up to the place he took his sole squad on their first – and only – mission, Seiryū stood still for a few moments, only to hear some scurrying and then something crawling up his leg. Momo had listened and they’d be out of Kaze no Kuni in a matter of hours, having a large enough lead on any units that would be chasing after him. A confrontation was not what he sought, but it was their goal. The only goal, for Seiryū, remained in leaving the village. His only regret would be that he would not be receiving any more messages that he looked forward to each day one would come in. He hoped that some form of understanding would result in her knowing why he would abruptly stop replying, but he truly wouldn’t know her reaction and thoughts until they met once more.
