As event exclusive content, all Namahage Festival missions are to be requested and approved through this thread. Tickets, like all Namahage Festival Prizes will be distributed from the Event forum and should not be requested elsewhere. All non-PvP Event missions need only meet the 750 word D-Rank mission requirement upon completion to be considered valid for submission. Unless the mission specifically states otherwise, all Festival Rules apply during Event missions. While there are no travel restrictions on the Namahage Festival sub-forum, event missions, as well as all event threads do consume active thread slots. Threads found to be made in violation of these limitations will be considered forfeit.

Festival Games / Assorted Repeatable Missions:

Festival Games / Assorted Repeatable Missions :
Mission name: Capturing the Demon Fish [ Akuma no sakanawotoru - 悪魔の魚を捕る]
Rank: EVENT
Objective: Capture the magical demon fish.
Location: Namahage Festival Grounds
Reward: 10 Tickets
Mission description: A slightly altered version of the traditional Japanese festival game of scooping fish. Instead of a small inflatable pool, there is a 25 m radium pool behind the stalls, with meter-long demon fish (weighing approximately 15 lbs each) inside. Without causing irreparable damage to any of the fish, capture two of them and bring them ashore where they will be approved by the stall owner, then put the fish back.
Mission details: If any major damage is inflicted on the fish, the mission is considered an immediate failure. Each player will be given one E-rank net (easily breakable by the fish if simply used to attempt to scoop the fish out), a fishing rod (with a weight capacity of approximately 5 lbs), and a small can of fish bait. Any and all techniques may be used provided that it does not bring harm to the fish or to the surroundings. Each demon fish is 1 meter long and 15 lbs, with enough intelligence to evade easy capture, moving at speeds which scale according to the person hunting them, always just slightly faster. Their sharp teeth cause small puncture wounds that - when left unattended - can gradually cause numbing in the surrounding area of the bite.

Mask Quest Line:
Mask Quest Line:
“Dear Festival Goers,

You are hereby cordially invited to attend the annual Namahage Masquerade Ball, a week long private celebration running concurrently with the Festival. Everyokai who’s anyokai will be in attendance and this year our gracious host has seen fit to allow even the rabble to partake in his generosity. The upper halls will be open only to our VIP’s, of course, but the ground level will be open to anyone who shows up with this flyer in hand.

With respect to the dress code, this is strictly a formal affair. We expect all attendees with aspirations of being allowed through the front gate to dress as such. And of course, masks are non-optional and may not be removed under any circumstances while in attendance. If you find yourself in need of a mask, the local ceramist may be of some assistance…

Sincerely,

A Humble Servant“

Mission name: Doesn’t Anyone Around Here Work?
Mission rank: Event
Objective: Locate the ceramist.
Location: Namahage Festival
Reward: 10 Tickets.
Mission Description: Locate the ceramist shirking his duties around the festival and convince him to make you a mask for the Masquerade Ball.
Mission Details: While skilled in his craft, there is not a soul familiar with the ceramist that would describe the lazy, obese Oni as reliable or dedicated. As per usual his shop will be found empty, abandoned by the ogre in order to laze about and greedily eat his full. He could be anywhere (Player Choice), but places with food (especially sweets) would be where we suggest you begin your search. When you find him, he will be none too pleased at the prospect of being asked to labor over his kiln and clay. We’re sure you can find a way to convince him (Player Choice).

Mission name: Seriously, Why Do You Even Have A Shop?
Mission rank: Event
Objective: Harden your mask in the Spirit Kiln
Location: Namahage Festival
Reward: 10 Tickets
Mission Description: Possessed flame spirits fuel the ceramist’s Spirit Kiln, a device you will now use yourself to begin taking the final steps towards having a mask of your own.
Mission Details: “Art is not a product of the hands that make it, but of the soul that fills it with passion.” -A made up excuse by the ceramist to avoid having to do any of the work himself, probably.

With the crude shape of a wet, clay mask in hand, the Oni will now pull out a jar containing a blue fireball that seems to be angrily slamming against the side of the jar in order to escape. Taking you out to the old, manual kiln out back of the shop the ceramist will instruct you to work the kiln, fueling it with the little possessed fire spirit in the jar and then leave. The flame is will attempt to make a run for it the moment you open the jar. Everything the flame touches as it bounces around like a rubber ball will ignite. The flames can be put out with a nearby fire extinguisher, but if you spray the fire itself it will go out and leave you with no way of completing your mask. If it gets to town it will ruin the festival and you will be ejected permanently. Once you secure the fire within the kiln, it will only be a matter of minutes before the task is complete. Be careful! The ceramic will be hot when you go to take it out!

Yokai Obstacle Course Quest Line:
Yokai Obstacle Course Quest Line:
The Yokai Obstacle Course is a long-standing Namahage Festival tradition that enables festival goers to flex their competitive muscles in a series of challenges arranged by the denizens of the Middle Plane. The order and type of obstacles that participants may face is randomized and decided by a dice roll when the challenge is taken. The roll will be performed for you by the moderator approving the challenge. In order to meet the challenges presented by the event’s organizers, participants are allowed to use their normal abilities during the competition. All damage sustained by participants, no matter how dramatic or grievous is considered non-lethal, with participants re-materializing at the entrance completely fine after each trial.

Those that complete the preliminary obstacle course are then eligible to compete for the Champion’s Cup, a separate series of trials designed to eliminate victors of previous rounds until only one true champion remains standing.

Obstacle Course Scenario Master List:

Katakirauwa

The competitors will be dropped into one end of what appears to be a large, farm-like area, with the goalpost visible, off in the complete opposite direction from where the competitors entered. After a few seconds a giant set of wooden doors will open unleashing a swarm of Katakirauwa, black piglets with one ear that cast no shadow. These creatures will charge directly at the competitors, attempting to run between their legs. Those unfortunate or slow enough to allow this to happen will have their souls snatched from their bodies, resulting in their elimination from the competition.

The Katakirauwa are almost blindingly fast and are capable of leaping great heights to follow their targets. In addition, the creatures can run on any surface, following competitors onto walls, bodies of water, and whatever other obstacles competitors may attempt to use to their advantage. If violence is used to repel the Katakirauwa, another swarm of the yokai will be unleashed for every incident that occurred. The only means of attaining victory and safeguarding your soul is to make it to the goal post before one of the creatures manages to pass between your legs.

Ittan-Momen

The competitors will be dropped on one side of a bottomless chasm. Almost immediately afterwards, several giant wooden logs will raise from the chasm to bridge the gap between the competitors and the goal post on the other side of the gap. As the competitors approach and begin their attempts at crossing, they will discover that the logs are not static, and will instead roll with the weight and pressure applied to them if the person or persons attempting to cross do not keep their weight centered.

In addition, once competitors move more than a few steps, powerful gusts of wind will begin to blow constantly across the chasm, blowing the unprepared off of their logs and pushing the logs back and forth as they blow. With these winds will also come the Ittan-Momen, possessed pieces of cotton cloth that travel on the wind and attempt to strangle and drag down anything they manage to latch onto and wrap around. Victory is attained by reaching the goal on the other side of the chasm without falling or being dragged into the bottomless chasm below.

Tsuchigumo

The competitors are dropped into a seemingly bottomless pit, freefalling until they fall into, and find themselves stuck in a network of giant spider webs. As competitors begin freeing themselves, an enormous, and unusually colorful Tsuchigumo yokai will descend upon the webs and begin devouring competitors unfortunate enough to cross its path. The only vulnerable part of the Tsuchigumo’s body is the abdomen which may be broken or slashed open, causing a stream of candies and sweets to flow forth. Revealing itself to have been a constructed piñata all along, the Tsuchigumo will no longer operate once its candy has been spilt. Once the candy spider has been defeated, competitors may attain victory by climbing the webs to escape the pit.

Gashadokuro

The competitors are dropped into a single, enormous chamber with no exit in sight, surrounded by large piles of skeletons and random bones strewn across the landscape. The moment a competitor disturbs even a single bone of the countless number piled in the chamber, a nearby mound of bones will begin to connect, creating a Gashadokuro. This giant skeleton will attempt to chase down every last competitor in the area, biting the heads off any unfortunate enough to be caught in its grasp.

While enormous and very strong, the Gashadokuro are not particularly bright and may be easily fooled. In addition, the power that holds its structure together is not made to withstand powerful impacts. The traditional means of defeating the Gashadokuro is to wait it out, as the power that sustains it is finite and typically lasts around one hour. The method of attaining victory lies solely in defeating the yokai, the goal post only revealing itself from the beast’s fallen skull.

Kamaitachi

The competitors will be dropped onto a standard running track, tasked with completing a three lap race around the track’s entirety. Awaiting the competitors on the track, however, are the Kamaitachi, three identical sickle wielding weasels that ride the air and chop the legs off of competitors who fail to leap over their hurdles. Victory is attained by completing three laps with one’s legs still attached to their body.

Mokumokuren

The competitors will be dropped into what appears to be a traditional Japanese-style building, surrounded by sliding paper doors and walls. Going through one set of sliding doors will take you to an identical room, but unbeknownst to the group, at least one set of sliding walls is actually a Mokumokuren. These possessed walls will constantly shift their position within the structure, creating a labyrinth effect intent on keeping the competitors trapped within its walls for all eternity. The only way to identify which wall is a Mokumokuren and likely to trick you into taking a wrong path is to identify which walls have holes in the paper screens, which denote the presence of the yokai. Victory is attained by successfully navigating the labyrinth of living walls.

Makura-gaeshi

The competitors will be dropped onto what can only be described as a giant, particularly springy mattress. The springiness of the mattress creates a trampoline-like effect on all who fall and jump on its surface. Shortly after arrival, a tiny, child-like creature will appear, and with the snap of its fingers cause soft, fluffy pillows to rain down upon the mattress. The Makura-gaeshi will then challenge all participants to a pillow fight, setting the stipulation that falling or being knocked off of the giant mattress will result in elimination from the game. The yokai will fail to disclose the special properties of its pillows that cause them to send flying any person or objects they have even slight impact with. The Makura-gaeshi can control multiple pillows telepathically and will continually try to knock competitors off as they compete against one-another. The two methods to attaining victory are 1.) being the last competitor standing on the platform with the yokai, or 2.) knocking the Makura-gaeshi off of the mattress yourself.

Kasa-obake

The competitors will be dropped onto one end of a chamber divided by a giant, bottomless chasm. On the opposite end of the chasm lies a second platform that is also a considerably higher up than the starting position. As competitors approach the edge of their platform, hundreds of umbrellas will erupt forth from the abyss, all at varying heights, and filling the space between the two sides of the chasm. Upon stepping on one of these umbrellas, they will almost immediately begin descending back down into the chasm, making constant movement a necessity. Some of these umbrellas, however, will reveal themselves to be Kasa-obake, possessed umbrella yokai that will attempt to grab onto your legs and drag you into the abyss below. Victory can only be attained by crossing the chasm successfully to the elevated platform where the goal post lies.

Kappa

The competitors will be dropped on one end of a pool, out of which a small Kappa yokai will emerge from the water. The challenge is simple, a race across the water against the Kappa. Kappas are natural swimmers, far faster than any human can manage with athleticism alone. The only goal is getting to the other side first. Feel free to get creative.

Ashiarai Yashiki

The competitors will be dropped into a traditional Japanese-style mansion. Shortly after arrival, an Ashiarai Yashiki, a giant, disembodied foot yokai will crash through the ceiling, demanding that the competitors wash it. Even if the competitors agree, they will find no running water, wash clothes, or soap available to complete the task in the room they are located. In anger, the yokai will begin stomping down, attempting to crush the competitors beneath it. If the competitors attempt to split up to escape the Ashiarai Yashiki, more will appear and begin rampaging through the mansion in the same manner to chase down all remaining participants. Soap, fabric that may be used as washcloths, and water basins/baths can be found scattered throughout the mansion, although competitors may also use their own if they are somehow able to produce the necessary items. Victory is attained when all remaining Ashiarai Yashiki have been cleaned.

Yokai Champion's Cup:
Yokai Champion's Cup:
The highest level of athletic competition offered by the Yokai during the Namahage Festival.
This tournament is open only to those who have successfully triumphed over the five-event Yokai Obstacle Course. Like the previous tournament, participants are allowed to use their normal abilities during the competition. All damage sustained by participants, no matter how dramatic or grievous is considered non-lethal, with participants re-materializing at the entrance completely fine after each trial. The nature of the Champion's Cup trials will be made available only when a competition between Yokai Obstacle Course victors is underway.
