1 NFL Weekly Betting on Wed Sep 27, 2017 9:14 pm

Welcome to the Naruto Saga Weekly NFL Betting Thread, a fun little community project put together with the intent of allowing the football fans of Saga (and those with a penchant for gambling) to show off their knowledge and team pride, and put their money where their mouths are. The goal is for this to be enjoyable, but if in the process people get to make a little bit of ryo… there are worse things that could happen. Of course all bets, once processed, are final and will not be rescinded or returned under any circumstances. Also, for the majority of the season, members will be treated as playing against “the house” and not each other. Using these threads as a means to set up personal side bets is prohibited. As a policy, the administration frowns upon unsanctioned gambling and will not participate in enforcing bets made outside of the bounds of official rules.

To play, it is necessary for members to have a basic understanding of moneyline betting in order to read the odds for the week’s games and know how and where to place their ryo. Moneyline bets are determined solely by the outcome of the game, with only bets on the winning team paying out. In order to balance the winning potential bets placed on “favorites” will be significantly devalued (the greater the favorite, the greater the devaluation) while bets placed on “underdogs” will yield considerable payouts if they successfully beat the odds. The number representing the odds of the “favorite” is preceded by a minus sign (“-“) and represents the amount of ryo that must be bet in order to win 100 ryo. Conversely, the number representing the odds of the “underdog” is preceded by a plus sign (“+”) and represents the amount of ryo won for each 100 ryo successfully wagered. These numbers will be displayed clearly on the game matchups for each week and be sourced from official Vegas odds released each week.

For Example:

If Member A is interested in placing a bet on Week X’s Monday Night Football matchup, NYG (+150) vs. NE (-200), he would look to the numbers displayed beside each team’s identifier and be able to immediately read that with a (-200) moneyline New England was the favorite while a (+150) moneyline identifies New York as the underdog.

Because of that (-200) moneyline, Member A would have to bet 200 ryo in order to win 100 ryo due to New England’s status as the favorite that game, and consequently higher odds of winning. Should they make that 200 ryo bet and New England wins the game, Member A would receive back their initial bet of 200 ryo plus 100 ryo as their winnings.

If Member A, however, had faith in New York (+150) despite their status as an underdog (who doesn’t love an underdog?), placed a 100 ryo wager on them, and New York successfully triumphed over New England, Member A would receive back their initial bet of 100 ryo plus 150 ryo as their winnings.
