Spoiler:
The Championship Cup
Objective: You must defeat the other contestants in martial combat. Only one contestant may reign as the Champion.
Location: Namahage Festival Grounds
Reward: Namahage Festival Champion Title
Event Description:

“Welcome contestants, to the Namahage Festival Championship Cup!”

A loud commanding voice booms out the greeting, leaving an echo of strangely whispered voices in its wake. The voice seems to surround you, leaving behind a nearly physical sensation of things crawling across your skin.

You stand in a sparsely forested area, thin sickly trees stretching their almost bare limbs up to the darkening sky. The ground is damp, with small pools of water intermingling with the dying grass and shrubbery covering the forest floor. Before you stands a grotesque looking woman, her skin so pale it appears blue in the dim twilight. Long strands of inky black hair fall down her shoulders, ragged bits sweeping across her face with the force of the slight evening breeze. A soft eerie glow radiates from the woman, making it clear that she is otherworldly. With a flourish of her bony hand, the Yokai points a finger out at each of the contestants standing before her. Her long talon like nails seeming to punctuate each sentence as she jabs her finger in the air while speaking.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

“You have passed the trials. And yet, there is still one more trial that you must undertake in order to name the true Champion. Here you will face the truest trial of all, armed combat.”

The Yokai gestures around the area, drawing attention to twenty four evenly spaced floating blue lights that have created a circular perimeter. The lights appear as orbs of fire, hovering one meter off the ground, each four meters from the next on either side.

”And in the case where you believe that being a shinobi grants you some sort of advantage, I would like to introduce you to my children. They are very friendly and full of life, though be careful not to get too close.”

A wicked laugh ripples through the air as, with a malicious sparkle in her eye, she spreads out her arms and glowing energy travels quickly through the air, from her to her children. As the spokes of blue light pass near you, you feel suddenly empty, and a chilling knowledge fills your mind. Your chakra is gone.

”Now young ones, fight for me. Only one of you may be crowned as the Champion, so fight well, and don’t take too long. My children are hungry.”

With her task given out, the Yokai sends out a shriek as she spins in place and fades from view.

Event Details: This trial is considered complete when only one contestant remains able to fight. The rules for combat (though listed elsewhere) are as follows;

No Metagaming or Godmodding. If you are caught doing this you will be warned and if it persists you will be disqualified.

Post within 24 hours of your opponent. As this is a timed event we want these threads to go quickly. If you do not post within 24 hours your opponent will be able to auto hit you.

The event (The Championship Cup), will last a total of fourteen [14] days. It will begin on December 2nd and end on (or by, as it may be concluded earlier) December 16th.

You may not bring in any items that are not approved at the time that the Championship Cup starts. Your lists will be considered frozen for the duration of the event.

You must keep track of your chakra at the bottom of each of your posts in spoilers (see the chakra guideline). This is to keep track of your exhaustion level.

All disputes regarding combat will be mediated by the Championship Cup organizer, and all rulings are final.

    Have fun!

No contestants will have any access to their chakra pool, meaning that jutsu, KKG etc. are unable to be used. Weapons, and unarmed attacks are the only available means of combating. Furthermore, all stats for contestants are effectively removed for the duration of the event. They may not be boosted by any means, as they are considered non-existent, putting all contestants on an even playing field. The perimeter of blue fire orbs drain life essence when you are in close proximity to them. Mechanically, this causes a drain of 100 chakra per post, as long as you begin or end your post within five [5] meters of one of the orbs. The available area within the perimeter is a [60] sixty meter radius. While your chakra is currently inaccessible, the rules regarding a character's chakra pool reaching 10 or less apply, as per the [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

In the darkening of twilight, amidst the dying remains of an otherworldly forest stands a sickly and grotesque looking woman. Her unkempt deep black hair a shocking contrast to the pale blue and ghostly white of her skin and robes. She cackles gleefully as around her orbs of blue fire appear at her behest, summoned it would seem by the flick of her clawed hands. The light cast by her creations glints off of small damp spots along the ground. Patches of brown coloured grass are broken only by thin trees and the occasional ragged looking shrub. Her demonic looking features twist as she reaches her hands to the sky and calls out with loud and commanding voice.

“Come to me champions! You have completed many trials, are you brave enough to complete one more? With all your cleverness and skill you have bested the demon swine, lived to tell the tale of the Tsuchigumo. Were spared being made part of the Gashadokuro, or being lost forever at the hands of the Mokumokuren. You have proven that you are fast, outrunning the Kamaitachi and dextrous, overcoming the tricks of the Kasa-obake and the Makura-gaeshi. Impressive feats all, now it comes time to decide which of you shall be named Champion. You have faced many Yokai and now it is time to face true monsters. Eachother.”

Her malicious laughter echoes through air, as she pulls at the air around her causing streams of blue energy to leap from the orbs towards her. A swirling miasma of crackling blue fire envelopes the clearing, drawing with it the inherent access anyone standing within the clearing has to their chakra. Her smile, filled with sharp teeth and hatred, is in direct contrast to the spiteful challenge uttered from her lips.

“Give me a story, young ones. One that will chill and frighten, one that will aid me. Feed me your fear and bloodshed and struggle. Only one of you will be victorious, but who I wonder? Who among you is strong enough, brave enough, resourceful enough to survive? I will leave that to you to decide amongst yourselves. Now fight for me and don’t take too long, these” She pauses to gesture around at the orbs of fire that have created a perimeter around the area. “These are my children. They were once like you and they hunger. The longer you take the more voracious they will become. If you do not wish to be consumed by their desire for your essence then be quick. When only one of you stands you may leave and claim your prize, until then young ones. . .”

A shriek fills the air as she spins and swirls in on herself, as though suddenly made from mist. And as she fades from view a voice is heard on the breeze.

“You belong to me.”

Nozomi

avatar

The blonde Jounin was wearing an altered version of Kirigakure's uniform, choosing not to reveal that she was a Hunter-nin by using her usual outfit. Her outfit consisted of a bound chest that was unable to be seen as it was the lowest level of clothing Nozomi had on. The next layer was the Camelio armor that she had taken from Syn. Over top that, she had on her ANBU armor, as it was quite a deal more compact than the armor of Kirigakure, and having it hidden under her clothes gave her an extra layer of defense that might lead her to victory. Over top the ANBU armor, Nozomi wore the black top of Kirigakure's jumpsuit, which was always longer on her than it needed to be. She had forgone the pants, leaving her legs exposed, only hidden by the bottom half of the Camelio suit, mainly because she didn't have any leg armor but didn't like to wear pants, and her feet were covered by simple boots. She had additional pouches strapped to her legs, belt line, and arms. Over top the jumpsuit, she wore her A rank Kirigakure Vest. To finish her outfit, she also had on her Kirigakure headband around her neck.

Her armaments were quite a bit more substantial, although she was missing some of it due to them being stored in scrolls, which she couldn't access without her access to chakra. Luckily, she didn't rely on those weapons, and always had plenty on her to begin with. In two separate holsters on either side of Nozomi's hips were two basic Kunai that had Explosive tags wrapped around the handle. Her best Tanto was strapped behind her shoulder, also exposed and fully uncovered for quick draw time. It was a work of art, for certain. The weapon she'd chosen upon her becoming a Hunter-nin Captain, a beautiful work of Kirigakuran black smithery, was securely fastened to her left side. The Katana was by far the longest and best weapon she had, and was a marvel of Kirigakure technology. Her Tanto was of similar make, but this was made so beautifully it almost seemed to cut through the air quicker than other weapons of similar style.

In addition to that, Nozomi has another A rank Katana strapped on to the same hip as her Kiri Katana. She is also carrying three scrolls on her, each containing a separate weapon: Her Windmill Shuriken, her A rank Kirigakure Yari, and her A rank Scythe Demon's Fang. Unfortunately, she couldn't access the weapons that were inside them, but they still existed on her person. She had all of her 51 E rank Senbon scattered throughout separate pouches and hidden pockets on her clothes. One of her pouches was exclusively filled with 20 Makabishi, conveniently on a rip away pouch so she could throw out the tiny weapons with little issue. Another pouch contained her 3 smoke canisters and her 10 Metsubishi. The rest of her shuriken and half of her kunai also were spread throughout the multiple pouches on her.

She was perhaps the most armed Himitsu Kirigakure had to offer, being one of the only ones who decided to specialize in Bukijutsu as well as Taijutsu. Due to her mastery of both of them, she had a huge advantage in this situation, where she knew her body better than most knew their own. She didn't know anything really about Hanbei, but she knew that Sero was as much a weapon master as she was, if not better. However, her skill in Taijutsu was far beyond his, she wasn't certain she'd really ever seen him dedicate more than the barest effort to it.

Looking the two of them up and down, Nozomi's face grew into a vicious grin. She was ready for the fight, and couldn't wait to see what the other two would do. However, she did wait for now, knowing it was better to offer a counter attack rather than open herself up as the first one to attack.

Sero

avatar

Sero had been summoned forth to this scarce forest space. Spotted with rocks and boulders as well as tree's. His cold grey eyes would look about him as water dripped off the tree's nearby into small puddles and muddied earth. Taking all of it in as it was far different from the clearing he had been residing in for the time being. Cold grey eyes would shift from where he stood ten meters away from either of the other contestants. One to his left and forward and the other to his right and forward. They were evenly spaced out in a triangle. He was far from shocked that Nozomi was one of his would be opponents. His dead gaze would fasten on her first and a slow nod would be given. He had studied her and knew her to be a worth opponent. This certainly wouldn't be as one sided a victory as the year before. Her taijutsu was something to consider. However she had to know that if she approached him she would not leave unscathed. A scar across her chest was a reminder of that. Still his gaze would casually drift to the other with them. The unknown standing not a step further away than Nozomi. Another woman he had never met and this one had also made it to a competition with him. Sero would not underestimate this one either. He could tell little of them other than they were thinner than either Nozomi or himself. Perhaps not a taijutsu specialist either?

However there was Sero standing between two tree's. His long white robes flowing about him with a red cloak hanging from his shoulders down to just above his knee's. Not many knew of this cloak and its primary function was limited due to the current setting but it was still an armor befitting Sero. The only S rank item he had on his person. However there was a set of three swords of kenjutsu make on his person. Two on his left hip and one on his right. The two on his left were a katana and a wakizashi. Both of superior quality and grey wrappings around the hilts with the Osada clan symbol on the bottom of each hilt. On the other hip was a single long blade. Black in color with silk wraps around the handle and again with his clan symbol on the bottom. This one however might bring up memories of that scar once more. An Odachi. However Sero had been practicing with two other weapons he had recently purchased and these two were crossed on his back. One of them was a fearsome sword. Kirigakure make with the blade alone spanning 137 cm. The hilt was another 50 cm. The grip itself made of shark leather with the symbol of Kirigakure in gold. One of the most powerful weapons that was only forged in Kirigakure. Its massive size suggesting it would cut through anything in its path. The one facing the other way however was not much simpler.

A Kirigakure Fang Tian Hua Ji. A halberd with a midnight black shaft with the symbol for Kirigakure placed upon it. The blades on the end designed for capturing and dismembering anyone within its reach. Though Sero soon would not have access to the rest of his equipment this was the build he had been practicing for his war fighting style. A style designed for him to hew his way through any opponent wielding any weapon. His Anbu gear and Hunter gear however were not on his person. He of course considered himself ready to summon more to the battlefield if required. However his attention was robbed of Hanbei as a woman spoke to all three. Her voice crude and the blue flames she summoned giving off no scent or chakra signature. However Sero felt something akin to them. Even as she sent them flying out to create a ring around the combat zone as one passed him he understood. His access to his chakra was removed. However that was a terrible mistake. Had he known that would of been a clause for this competition he would never have participated. He used his chakra to contain his inner beast. To cage it and control it. With his chakra cut off he could feel it rising. Feel it cackling within as the darkness began to creep out. The inner demon he had used to survive as a youngling was no longer pinned without hope. It was free.

The other two would feel it the instant their chakra was cut off with his own. Sero was not his calm and collected self. Those grey eyes would narrow as his lips would peel back. A feral growl filling the grounds as the winds seemed to shift and be coming from where he stood. Without chakra Sero was a dangerous man. A different kind of dangerous than he was with his chakra. All that calculation and careful consideration was now backed with a hunger. A love for the hunt. Shadows would creep up the tree's and it would almost be like a song on the winds. A song of spirits fallen to the edge of his blades. A feeling would creep up the spine of those who faced him. There was something not human on this battlefield. Something no man or woman or creature had ever put down. The instinct one felt when they were being stalked was all one could sense when looking upon him. However that sensation was everywhere. As if he wasn't simply standing there. Like he was always just out of sight. Just out of the corner of their eye. His blade waiting to draw their blood. Still he stood before them with pale hands hovering just above the hilt of the katana. The sensation of if he drew it, someone would feel its cut. One thing was clear, Sero would need to be dealt with first. Because if either of them moved to attack the other, he would be on top of them.

Item: Superior Kirigakure Great-Sword
Rank: A
Elemental Affinity: N/A
Price: 3000 ryo per Great-Sword
Ability / Function: Requires Bukijutsu (Swordsmanship) / A-3 Strength to wield.
The crushing blows from this weapon threaten the structural integrity of armours, light spears (Yari) and weapons not exclusively made to be used with 2 hands that this sword comes into contact with. With a single blow The Great-Sword is capable of sending cracks down a weapon or light armour of equal rank, damaging it, requiring only a second blow to break it beyond use. (With weapons and armour of a rank lower suffering instant destruction, heavy armour requires an additional blow at all ranks.) This weapon ‘must’ be used in 2 hands.
Appearance: A colossal weapon bearing a 137cm long blade from tip to the slight guard before extending into a 50cm hilt. At the side of the hilt is a small handle, allowing the weapon to be used much like a battering ram should the wielder wish. The hilt is bound with shark leather for superior grip and the weapon comes to a weighted pommel for bashing. 187cm in total length, the weapon stands at 6’ long bearing the sigil of kirigakure upon its pommel in gold..
History:  Crafted by holy smiths across the ocean for knight masters, these weapons contrary to popular belief have a complex and technical style associated with them. Though a few examples have made their way over to Kiri along with the knowledge of how to produce such weapons they are rare and pricey in the extreme.

Item: Superior Kirigakure Fang Tian Hua Ji
Rank: A
Elemental Affinity: N/A
Price: 2500 ryo per Hua Ji.
Ability / Function: Requires Bukijutsu (Sojutsu) to wield.
The deadly points which this weapon come to are streamlined to penetrate through light armours of equal rank with zero resistance, while the bladed edges and points themselves are capable of cutting 3” deep into soft tissue. The unique make and design of this weapon’s head features catches and hollow square arks made to trap and disarm swordsmen and spear users.
Appearance: A 165cm short spear which comes to a spiked pommel at the ground end. At its tip the weapon has a protruding spear-like tip raising 20cm from the rest of the weapon which is bladed on either side. To each side of the tip blade, in line with its facing, are two crescent heads which come to their own points, shaped similar to Torii gates, bladed inside and out. The pole of the weapon is black cedar and varnished to be easy on the hands with the seal of kirigakure punched into the wood nearing the head.
History: An infamous berserker was known to use a variation of this weapon. In his hands it was capable of killing beasts even the size of horses outright in but a single swing..

Name:Cloak of the Forgotten
Type of Armor:Light Armor/ hooded cloak
Rank:S
Elemental Alignment:/
Quantity:1
Protection:Light armor can block all basic attacks (kunai, swords, punches) and make them negligible if they are 2 ranks lower  than the armor. basic strike of a rank higher or lower does one rank less in damage, and two ranks higher bypass the armour completely.
Ability/Function:Blind Eye: Due to the design of the pattern that is sewn into the cloak, as the user moves, it induces pseudo-hypnosis effect on those who look upon it, causing the wearer to be unnoticed and/or ignored by their surroundings and entities and be unregarded by threats or dangers to the unaided eye. The wearer is not actually invisible – they still cast a shadow, and still leave footprints behind as they move about, but to the unaided eye [eyes that are not enhanced by a doujutsu to provide a visual perception/clarity boost], the wearer is simply overlooked So long as there is a decent amount of coverage such as tree's or a crowd (Meaning this does not work in open area's like plains or an empty room). Even though the user is ignored, they are by no means undetectable. Anyone with SS rank perception or by using a dojutsu or a sensory (Prior to the chakra ability being activated or above S rank sensory) can see through this ability as well as anyone the wearer allows to see them. Once seen the ability no longer works for the remainder of the thread.
Chakra ability This armor completely hides any trace of the user's presence from S-rank  sensory jutsu and below for 10 chakra a turn.
Appearance: A hooded cloak red in nature somehow bending the eyes around it.
Red hood:
History: A room within the fourth floor of the manor was sealed behind an S rank seal with intricate levels to it. A seal that up until now Sero could not discover a way around and could not break. His father had set this in place so that Sero would not be able to access the contents until such a time as he was capable of opening the seal. Having finally studied Sealing to such a level Sero was able to unlock the puzzle of the room and the wall opened to reveal its contents. First was a red hooded cloak in a glass case. It's label once dusted off read Cloak of the forgotten. Fitting at least since his father was long passed and yet he seemed to still have a hand in his sons life

Hanbei~

avatar

Special Jounin
'And it had been such a good day...‘

Hanbei had been talking a walk when a massive spirit of a woman came before her, skin of bone and what seemed to be the horned mask of a woman. Hanbei almost shrieked recoiling backwards as it seemed that she was being invited to the last challenge... against her will no less. Apparating in the arena, she would first feel the wet marsh like climate surround her geta. Frowning and complaining audibly Hanbei could not help but move to look up at the jealous ghost that Hanbei would associate has Hannya, a female demon of considerable power that was immortalized through the art of Noh. The formal plays gave the specter great power through adoration and universal acknowledgement, no doubt making her on par with some of the arch spirits of this world, and maybe even some of the minor gods, depending on the heaven cycle. Looking up, and listening to the task as she would go through the events that they had been through to get them to this moment... leaving Hanbei to think...

'But i never did any of those things...'

Hanbei had more or less gotten through all of the trials one by one with reasoning with the Yokai, save for the giant pinata spider, which hardly counted. Hanbei knew most of the myths and legends that surrounded the Yokai due to her faith and simply prepared for each of them before she entered, whether it be with an old calendar for the Kamaitachi, or making deals with the mokumokuren. All Yokai were, were animals that lived on the spiritual plane, each with a personality and each with something that they aspired to accomplish or attain. Figuring them out in most cases was merely a manner of asking, and knowing how to read the signs of their answers...

T he Special Jounins' concentration was pulled from her as specters brushed past in a cold breeze, dragging with them the entirety of her spiritual power and leaving her more or less undefended should the fight commence. Hanbei had thought that martial combat would at least have left her at some advantage, though it seemed yet again that she would have to do things the hard way. Looking up at the two opponents that she was supposed to be up against, the first of them, was a familiar face, who had Hanbei light up in surprise as it seemed that the two of them had made it to the final fight after-all. Raising up on her toes and waving energetically totally out of theme of the event that surrounded them. As Hanbei would draw attention to herself, the others would see her combat attire. Layered loose silks covering her form with long hair in french braids being tied at the back of her head. The Silken robes she wore were fit for a Daimyo, thread counts beyond measure as bright floral patterns of cherry-blossoms covered their surface in a cacophony of skill and technique. Her eyes, even as the chakra was drained from her body would remain violet and pupil-less, black rings expanding from the center leading onlookers to whisper as to their meaning...

Hanbei would seem like a completely unarmed no older than 12 to thirteen year old girl with a physique that was petite for her age. Hands returning to behind her as she would lean forward endearingly with a bright smile stretched across her face, interlinking her sleeves.

"It's nice to see you again! I didn't think we'd both get to the championship! But uhhh, it seems the two of you came a little more prepared than i did... don't suppose either of you have a Tanto i could borrow? Aha~!"

She would giggle, her attention moving to the monster to her right, only to have her voice cut off, becoming restrained and nervous. She was ten meters away from the two of them, but, the shock of the seething energy that flowed from Sero, had her immediately step backwards and flee multiple meters backwards, making the gap closer to twenty five as Hanbei would coil around a tree, peering out in fright and leaving the other two far closer to one another as she would call out to Nozomi...

"Uh-uhm, I think something is uh, r-r-wrong with your friend.... Is h-he okay?." All the while, using the long silks and cover, none would be able to see her fibrous second skin nor the needle holsters that were attached to her upper fore-arms as well as several of her basic E rank needles that were laced within an under layer of the silks in positions that hanbei would easily reach with his throwing motions. But compared to the veritable armouries that the others carried, Hanbei had little going on for her... her eyes darting around noted the arena, the spheres that moved around it, the trees and their lengths as well as the muddy water on the ground, there were some advantages to be had here, to be certain, but he would need to work out how. It seemed that neither of her opponents had bought with them much of a ranged game... and that would be Hanbei's advantage...

'Although the male fighter frankly terrified her...'

Nozomi

avatar

Hanbei was completely fine with calling attention to herself, and Nozomi grinned at the girl. She remembered her of course, and shook her head, waving back. "Of course I made it. I'm glad you did too. And my best buddy Sero." she said, glancing over to Sero, who no longer was able to keep in check the dark monstrous energy inside him. It unnerved her more than usual, which was difficult, considering that she didn't usually mind it at all. Hanbei wasn't quite so used to it and jumped back, understandably.

She jumped back herself, to gain a little distance from Sero and from Hanbei as well. She wasn't exactly afraid of Hanbei, but she was wary. The girl had gotten this far after all, which meant she wasn't any sort of pushover. Of course, it was possible she was a really good ninjutsu user, but Nozomi couldn't be too sure, and couldn't underestimate her. As for Sero, she was right to be wary of him. Besides Ayakashi, he was the most experienced shinobi in Kirigakure, and perhaps the most dangerous even including the Mizukage. He didn't need jutsu to be deadly.

This match was more than likely exactly the same as the others had been. Pain would be felt, and everything would be remembered, but nothing was lasting. That was good, for sure. She didn't have to worry about hurting anyone. And she was used to pain, so she didn't have to worry about taking hits. If she needed to take damage to end the match, it would be fine. She was ready.

Drawing her Kirigakure Katana, she addressed Hanbei. "Sero's fine, but he is the one to focus on first. He's the most dangerous fighter in Kirigakure, and the Captain of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist. He doesn't need chakra, and he doesn't feel pain." she said, giving a little backstory to Hanbei, who might not have known anything about him just yet. With her off hand, Nozomi quickly drew 3 of her shuriken, launching them towards Sero, evenly spaced for his neck, left arm, and right leg. He might not feel pain, but if she could whittle down some of his endurance, and bleed him out, he would eventually stop moving regardless.

Sero

avatar

Sero would watch with the eyes of the grave as first Hanbei would dive further away and take cover behind a tree. It appeared these two were familiar with each other. They knew each other though Sero did not know this third. His instincts thrived to give chase to the one that had fled him. To hunt down the prey as it knew not to cross him. However he knew that to be a false instinct. Had they been focused one on one perhaps it would have befitted him. However his eyes snapped to the woman across from him. His comrade. His equal in most ways. Where he was the right hand of the Mizukage she was the left. Her calm demeanor suggested to him she felt prepared for what he might bring onto her doorstep. She was a warrior that had survived him for years. It was out of respect for her that he would not dare give chase without thought. She was a warrior with her element here. Still he would face her and His hair would ripple out. Reaching for a sage mode he could not touch as even the flames seemed to dance so far behind him. Hungry for the dark power he held.

First he would not the circle they were in. They had started in the center with the fires surrounding a sixty meter radius. They each had been fifty meters away from the line when they started. Now both Nozomi and this stranger had launched themselves back closer to the wall. Forty meters away each while he remained at fifty. Was their goal to drag the fight to the wall? If so was there some chance they intended to drain him there? He would need to keep an eye on his positioning. Turn such a strategy against them. Still Nozomi's calm words to team against him would seem to echo into his mind. She would have this stranger aid her against him? He would have liked to fight her alone. However now the two of them were thirty meters apart. If they intended to team up against him they were in a position to flank if he charged senselessly forward. Even with his skill being flanked against two opponents wishing to keep the game at a range was not in his favor. He would need to act now in order to lessen the flank. He just needed to choose one of them to target first.

Nozomi however was happy to make that decision for him. His eyes watched as she snapped her wrist on her offhand at him. Three shuriken spinning through the air like birds chirping. Of course he would see this coming. It was too direct an attack. Was her intent to force him towards her? To drag his ferocity in her direction? He supposed the enemy he knew was the safe route. Quietly he would step right and draw his katana using only his right hand. Lifting the scabbard with his left. The Katana would slash through the air with grace and fluidity like water in one arc. The tip of the katana catching the first shuriken and the base the second while the scabbard would have the last shuriken slam into it. Of course he hadn't expected the other to stay idle so he shifted his left hand up the scabbard as he turned and flung it towards the one to his left. Hanbei now having a shuriken hurtled to saw into the tree they had taken cover behind. However the shuriken itself would almost drip with the malice that Sero held. As if the weapon was tainted and waiting to lash out and bite Hanbei.

However Sero was already moving. Shifting one meter to his right to take cover behind a boulder. He would take a moment. Count to three and shift like a red blur from the rock to the next tree. Then a count of two and shift again. Keeping the timing on his movements random. They knew he was moving towards Nozomi but not when he would move. Without already having something flying for him with some precision they had little hope of catching him in the open. Of course the flaw of it happened to be it was slow progress. Sero had only managed to move ten meters towards Nozomi with a count of six. If Nozomi had chosen to retreat she would have ample time to do so. He was waiting for her to come to him though. To show some resolve and engage him. If they chose to keep playing at a range it would drag out the fight for longer than they had with little progress made on him. Eventually the ring would grow smaller...eventually they would be forced into close range combat with him anyway. It was just a matter of time. Their best hope was to land some form of injury on him prior.

Hanbei~

avatar

Special Jounin
'JHe feels no pain!?‘

Hanbei would have to think about her approach, however, before she was able to do so shuriken had been launched in the direction of sero, there was a clash of steel on steel as something came whirring in the direction of Hanbei, ducking behind the tree and sinking low, he would almost feel the vibration of the shuriken slamming into the tree, peering out from behind it again, Hanbei woul coil her fingers around the shuriken, plucking it from the wood and moving it into a pocket for the mean time... she was not one to waste ammunition after all. Though it was only now in truly attempting to devise a strategy that Hanbei realized the disadvantage she was really in... Literally everything that Hanbei had put into out-thinking an opponent relied on the use of chakra in one form or another, what else was there for a person of his size and stature? She wasn't as big, or strong, or as fast as others, she had some teaching in acupuncture as a martial art under her father, but that was nothing compared to the brawl and skill that these two seemed to have with their swords...

'Either way it was time to act.'

Reaching out for a break in the branch as Sero had moved to focus on his other opponent, Hanbei would put force into her toes and spring up into the tree that she was behind, feet meeting the branches of the slender forest tree as Hanbei would gain the high ground in this fight. There was an arena above where the two of them were fighting, and it was here, to reach him, they would need to be airborne, and without chakra, that meant that they would be still targets for the taking. It was the same tactic that Hanbei had performed against the Inuzuka in the chuunin exams, but, this time, it seemed to be a much higher stakes game. Leaping from tree to tree Hanbei would begin to run in a fifteen meter circle around the fight from Sero's left, to behind him and towards his right. Nozomi hadn't done anything against Hanbei as of yet, and the terror of the other opponent made him the immediate threat of the two, he seemed to be a monster, like a rabid dog rampaging in the night, a black hound of the bloody mist...

'he had to be stopped.'

Hanbei would remember the first rule about hunting a ninja like him, well, any ninja. She couldn't attempt to just go for a kill, he would have to bring him down one step at a time... Breaking him down piece by piece to the point that he would no longer be able to fight at his full potential, though doing so without pain was going to be tricky. But there were points in the body that he was able to hit in order to make that happen without triggering nerves. Hanbei needed to open his opponent up for a shot to the liver, doing that would shut him down entirely, as it wasn't a nerve or pain function but one in the brain, sending his entire body into immediate self preservation mode against his will. Now that there was a target, it was time to open him up like a can. Darting to the side, Hanbei would, hands still hidden by her sleeves draw a needle between each of his fingers, but two between her forefinger and thumb as her standard throwing practise, positioning herself in the dark with the needles of guanyin, attempting to keep low.

But after the shuriken, Nozomi had made no follow up, and this sero seemed to have also made no action, so, it was time to attack in a manner that would give Nozomi the opening she needed to engage Sero in full, it would seem. Hanbei would aim up several locations. A meter to Sero's right and left at center chest, one half a meter above at head height as well as two at his collar bones. two half a meter to either side of his hips and the rest targeted for his stomache and sides of each knee behind the knee-cap as Hanbei would ready his cluster, rolling them into certain positions between his fingers so that his force and their spin would have them move off in their separate directions, at this range, the difference needed only to be infinitesimally small, but once they reached him, spreading out a meter was childs-play. It was nothing but some simple physics... So, hanbei would let out an ear-piercing wolf whistle, hopefully catching his radical change in position by some surprise, but, as he did so, the mat black guanyin needles were already in the air.

"HEY!"

The call out was not to draw Sero's attention to the attack, if it drew attention at all, but, if Sero looked in the distance and focused to find hanbei, looking too far forward past his needles would use his depth perception to his advantage, blurring the image of the needles naturally like looking past your own finger, simply using psychology to add to the stealth of the needles. In addition, following his calling out, Hanbei would hurl Nozomi's silver shuriken at Sero's eye level as a focus, following about seven meters behind his initial attack... The spacing of the needles was an attempt to punish sero for evading in certain ways last minute, jumping the knee shots would lead him to the high needles, the shoulder height ones then likely hitting him in the gut or a little lower. Assuming he saw them coming in time, moving to either side would likely land the outside needles to score him, backwards or forwards was no obstacle because of the angle and the shots focused at his body were too close together to slink between. And a standing block like he had done with the shuriken would likely lead him to fall victim of one or two as five would make contact simultaneously if he stayed in place.

'It was a good shot, against a still target,'

Spoiler:

Ability/Function: The needles come to mono-molecule tips, making them sharp enough to penetrate flesh and fibrous tissue almost as if it was not even there. Appearance:
Long black 5" needles which catch the sun as opposed to reflecting it, making them difficult to see and easy to miss with the naked eye in mid flight.
History:
Masterfully made, steel throwing weapons invented and used by the Guanyin clan. Known for their needles in the use of both remedial acupuncture as well as combat acupuncture, hundreds of years of developed techniques combined to make these needles harder, sharper, and more aerodynamic. Nozomi

avatar

Nozomi would seemingly stay stationary as she had thrown the shuriken towards Sero earlier, letting him come to her. She'd already started to devise her plan to take him out. Without an ability to materialize his weapons, he was stuck with what he had, and Nozomi was eternally greatful for that. A fight between the two of them at peek wasn't one she was sure that she could necessarily win. That said, she knew a little about his method of hunting, having fought with him a few times as he stalked his prey. And that meant that he knew her methods as well. The thing was, Nozomi knew that in order to throw Sero off, she would have to revise her usual strategy.

The major difference is that usually, Nozomi was the first to rush a strong opponent. Against someone who didn't know her, this was fine. They didn't know how deadly she was in close range, didn't know her fighting style, and couldn't adapt before they were taken out. However, that also usually relied on her use of chakra in tandem with her Taijutsu or Bukijutsu. Obviously that wasn't going to work this time around, too many variables had changed.

That left her with the option of retreating and moving around until the ring shortened enough that they would eventually be forced to fight regardless, with no room to retreat should anything go awry. Or she could wait for him, drawing him into her own trap, one that he wouldn't expect her to lay. Knowing his ability to stalk prey usually would strike fear into an opponent, forcing them to flee regardless, but Nozomi's plan centered more on them staying near the edge of the perimeter. It was more danger to her of course, but if she could position it right, she may be able to throw him out of bounds. She knew those things floating around sapped chakra.

He may not feel pain, but if Hanbei would work with her, they could tire out his body, hitting key areas that would shut him down regardless. Nozomi had beaten Syn before the fight truly began that way herself. A Lightning Execution straight to his liver, blasting it to smithereens. Even the Jounin level fighter couldn't do anything after that, and fell to her. She was an assassin as much as Sero was a monster. Even against these types of enemies, she could take them down. Nothing was unstoppable.

As Sero advanced, switching behind cover, Nozomi kept her eyes towards him, always making sure to keep Hanbei in her periphery. She hoped the girl was on her side, but couldn't trust it just yet. They were still enemies after all. And even using Nozomi as bait would be beneficial to both of them, a trap that could be used easily. No pattern was able to be detected, Sero was changing direction and timing of his movements at random, although Nozomi couldn't say she was surprised. His experience was useful.

Drawing with her off hand two Kunai from a pouch near her right hip, and the lone kunai from the holster at her left hip, Nozomi hid the three kunai from sight, perhaps Hanbei had seen the movements, but Sero certainly hadn't, having been behind one of his barriers. Leaping up onto a nearby boulder, Nozomi finally made her own advancement, keeping the three Kunai from any line of sight he may have. Even still, she was sure he would figure out she had them with little difficulty.

She emerged close to where Sero had last used as a barrier, although a few blocks away, keeping out of melee range for the time being. She launched two of her kunai at him directly upon spotting his form, the first two she had drawn having been in between fingers rather than held in her hand. As the flew towards him, Hanbei cried out "Hey!" as well, having thrown back the shuriken that Nozomi had launched towards Sero earlier. Nozomi primed the third Kunai for launch as well, waiting for a two count to launch it towards wherever Sero would potentially dodge to before throwing it to wherever he would be. It wouldn't be in the air long before finding itself near him, perhaps only a second. Her throw would place Sero in front of it and slightly to the right, with the Orbs not too far away a little further to the right. She'd aimed low, so the Kunai would strike near the ground in front of him if he remained stationary, or near his legs if he moved forward.

If Sero tried to dodge farther towards the right, his left if he was facing Nozomi, then he would risk getting even closer to the perimeter's end. If he tried to dodge to the left and closer to her, he might end up hit by the Kunai. Still, if he stayed where he was, and had managed to dodge Hanbei's assault as well, he was exactly where she wanted him. The strike was well coordinated, at least in Nozomi's eyes. He was as close to the edge as her plan allowed for, and soon she'd be able to claim victory.

Perhaps he wouldnt feel the need to dodge the blades at all. Basic shinobi tools were often underestimated, and at the level she had, they weren't much of a threat, but she needed to stack up damage onto him, and she needed to do it fast or she would never manage to beat him before she started to tire out.

Sero

Sero watched and listened. There was too much at stake now for him to allow his guard to fall. He was facing two opponents with one of them on his level to begin with. The other may be as well. He had only moved to cover twice and already he was aware they had to be responding. They were unlikely to allow him to move as he pleased. Every action demanded a reaction. Already he had heard the strain of wood lightly in the distance as his shuriken he had thrown was pulled free. The other was moving. Having taken the bait and alerted him they had done so by pulling the item free from its tight hold. It was only a creak of wood but it was enough. His grip on his katana tightened. The silk straining under his fingers. They had chosen to start him at a range. Meaning they likely had the advantage there. After all the only weapons he had were close range. He could move under that assumption at least until they changed it up a little. Either way he knew if they were working together he was about to be flanked. At least he had a plan for that.

Quietly he would sheath his katana. As he did so though his eyes were looking about himself. From his cover he was limited from being hit but only from one direction. They would re position so they could target him openly. Of that he was sure. He almost missed it but movement in the tree's caught his attention just in time to react. His lift hand would unclip the halberd from his back as he darted to the side. Not interested in taking on more shuriken as the weapons would simply litter the ground around him. So he had shifted around the cover only to be faced with an oncoming Nozomi and her kunai. With his eyes narrowing he would take advantage of that situation. Creating a cross guard over his face as he lowered into a dash. The kunai either missing him or bouncing off his cloak and halberd. However he wasn't about to let that deter him. He had been caught off guard and perhaps was a little close for his weapon choice. She had managed to get considerably closer to him than she should have. She usually had the advantage fighting close range so he was happy she would oblige him with the chance to actually fight back.

His dash however wasn't directly to her but to her right and passed her. Shifting his grip on the Halberd up the shaft to behind the blade while the dark shaft would slip into the crook of his arm. Essentially now he held it like a two sided hand axe with the blade only a quarter meter above his hand. He was moving to a position where he wasn't flanked. In doing so he brought the halberd in a swing from Nozomi's right with enough power to bend all the grass in its swing. He was attempting to force her to stand between Hanbei and himself. First because than he could keep eyes on both of them and second, because he had heard it. There were too many impact noises for what he had seen. There had been a hidden attack in all that somewhere. Meaning there were hidden weapons involved. He didn't have the time to strain to identify it with Nozomi right in front of him though. The hopeful goal though was one of two scenario's. Either the other wouldn't be able to attack him with Nozomi being used as cover or even better, they would now take advantage of Nozomi being flanked. Of course what he hadn't noticed a dark senbon sticking out of his left thigh. It hadn't hit the vitals he was aiming for but Hanbei had managed to stick him with one of their attacks as he moved to dodge the Shuriken.

Hanbei~

avatar

Special Jounin
invalidated via ruling:
'It was time to vanish‘

Hanbei had cast her cards this time around, it was time for her to once again vanish into the folds of the combat. No sooner than she had thrown her weapons she would be on the move to her next destination, the ground behind Sero... However, she could tell there was something up about Nozomi's attack as she hurled through the air, one of the shuriken that had been thrown were different than the others, a seal placed upon its surface gave it away, while a ninja who had their vitality taken away, and was distracted by being up against two opponents for the mean time may have missed it, the unmistakable mark of a fuuinjutsu was most definitely upon them... something remarkable was going to happen, and the fact that it had, was likely going to put One of them out of the fight, or at least deal a considerable sum of damage seeing as how close it would be. This would present its own opportunity as Hanbei would leap in directly behind Sero, to all those involved he would be moving for a classic ninja move, a pincer movement, slightly to one side so Nozomi would be able to see her placement just as the flash of the bang went off.

This was it, in this attack she would eliminate one of the people he was up against, having slipped sixteen needles from his second skin between her fingers she would pose to hurl them into Sero's back, hoping that the ninja would remain still or at the very least in a predictable flight pattern from the explosion microseconds after it was set to go off. Hanbei would analyze his position in an instant as well as the position of the Kunai as the flash would emit from it, hurling all of his needles in the direction of Sero's back and body, two of which would be thrown at a crash course intercept path for his neck and the rest of them, hidden by the cloud of the explosion would more than likely be anyone's guess. But, using some basic perception of speed and momentum, it wouldn't be hard for the young ninja to get a near immaculate mental image of the positions of his targets, as well as the ninja that he was hoping to avoid leaving like a cactus by the end of the attack...

'But it wasn't who you'd expect.'

As six of the darts would be aimed for key muscles to further restrict movement in Sero, Osada, in the apex of the wake of the concussion of the blast, just as the force waned, ten of the needles would mask themselves in the blackness of the cloud, travelling past Sero', between his arms, to either side of his neck and onwards, exploding out of the cloud Towards Nozomi, aiming for her upper torso and key nerves within it to cause an excruciating amount of pain, her trachea, between her spinal disks through the front of her neck and finally her exposed eyes. Each of the ten needles would bullet for her at break neck speeds as Hanbei would spin, loading another five needles into each of his hands, hurling one of them in a shot-gun blast for Sero's torso for an interception path in the direction he would be moving at the time and the second as it came around for Nozomi once again. This one, more in the open.

'It was like the exams again...'

Hanbei felt guilt for her sneaky attack, she had effectively ended his alliance with the other ninja, but, she had a feeling that the ninja from kirigakure would have done the same if she had the chance... and with the equipment at her disposal it seemed that Hanbei was the one here who needed every leg up she could possibly get against these two, Sero would have been wounded thoroughly from the blast, and unless he could rapidly change his direction as he recoiled from it, he would be paralyzed from the neck down, leaving him with likely nothing left, numb or know, messages still needed to travel from your brain to the rest of your body, and without chakra there was no technique that he had in his repertoire that would be able to usurp the undeniable biological fact of that. Which left Nozomi...

However, whether or not should she be able to hold off Hanbei's two volleys without taking damage from them, Hanbei would scratch the back of her head and laugh, her sleeves falling to reveal her needle bracers around her fore-arms. It seemed there were only 30 needles left on them, if a ninja were keen enough to take count of the ammunition as Hanbei would take whatever small break there was in the combat to apologize for the actions she had just undertaken. "Haha, sorry! I kinda got carried away. When your focus narrows its like peering down a telescope emotionally, I get kinda caught in the zone. " Hanbei under no circumstance would allow Sero out of her sight, a basic explosive tag was a powerful weapon, and there was always the chance Hanbei missed what she was aiming for as she addressed Nozomi. "You guys just seem so much stronger and better prepared than I am too ya'know? It's like being asked to move a mountain with a gardening trowel..."

But, drawing another ten of the long black needles from her holsters on her wrists, and now once again allowing her silken fabrics to fall down past her arms, she would hope that, her disguise would allow her opponents another chance to underestimate the girl. After all, she seemed to weak, so young, so vulnerable. There was no way she was any higher rank than a chuunin for sure, up against two of Kiri's most powerful ninja, who could blame her for trying something a little underhanded in order to get ahead... It was only natural that, in the guts and hearts of most ninja, there would be some part of them that would hesitate to move and strike at their hardest against a person like this...

'But being a ninja was all about turning your weaknesses into strengths.'

Explosive Tags require chakra to activate, and while it may be a small enough amount to not effect your chakra pool, it is still explicitly stated in the item. Therefore they are useless in this battle. They are unable to be activated.

As a quick follow up the impact trigger wouldn't work either because it is still a seal that is used to activate the explosion and without chakra it is unable to ignite.

'Hit!‘

Hanbei's needle would enter the thigh not where he had wanted it to, but a thin needle penetrating the thigh was a good hit none the less, but it wouldn't stop there. The Guanyin had a knack for throwing needles, the damage of which was always far more brutal than one would think. Rather than penetrating in the small amount the weapon would allow, the needle would, barely missing the bone on the central body of the thigh, penetrate straight through one side and out the other like a bullet. Hewing through minor vein and capillary clusters in the area and allowing it to bleed freely like a glass cut. But of the damage dealt one structure in particular would get nicked in the careless action of Sero due to the force of the needle passing through. The Femoral artery in the Thigh was something  that was vital to the human body, the second largest arterial structure in the body, with even the capillary structures that surround it moving massive sums of blood through the legs and back up to the heart. Similarly, the veins that track back to the heart also moving just as much blood, at same speeds but at lower pressures. The total size of the veins and arteries in the central structure alone, take up the central third of a persons' thigh spreading out in every direction... and the needle had penetrated right though it.

Sero wouldn't be able to feel it, though his senses may pick up the blood-soaked needle moving past him, while Hanbei would notice the immediate bleeding that would be travelling down his leg in heart paced pulses. While the hit had not been direct, it seemed to have hit a core part of the structure. Without medical attention, Sero would have little more than a minute to live, yet alone fight, and that was ignoring the increased heart rate from combat and stimulation of his mental state. In earnest, he was lucky Hanbei also hadn't lined it up to hit the Sciatic Nerve, totally destroying any function in his leg from the knee down...

'This was perfect!'

Hanbei would kick off the tree she was hiding in and begin a far more aggressive approach now that the copper scent of blood was beginning to fill the air. Nozomi seemed to have thrown a hand-full of Kunai at her opponent, something that Hanbei was more than capable of respecting. Darting inwards and intending to land behind Sero, but out of the intended paths of the Kunai as they would begin to be deflected and evaded, Hanbei would have moved her hands into her cloak en-route, loading her fingers with a set of sixteen of the black needles once again, and looking at sero's back. This time there was no means of her aiming this onslaught, rather than throwing them with skill and hoping to group them together in a tight enough area, but, that was exactly what she needed, a grouping slightly wider than her opponent to cut off avenues of escape, as well as tight enough to ensure that there was not a method to hide or slink between them as they were hurled in his direction.

Bringing her hands from either side of her up in an 'X' pattern, a small cacophony of whistles would erupt as the mono-molecule obsidian tipped needles would hurl through the air with sharpness over a hundred times more fine than a surgical scalpel. The needles would fan out in a grouping about half a meter to either side and above Sero as the intended focal point was just above his hips, at his center of mass, peppering the 16 needles evenly spaced within that 1.5m diameter circle... Hanbei's fingers moved like liquid lightning, a blur among the skilks as each of her motions acted with the grace of a spring dance, silk trailing in the wake of each of her attacks as she would hope to leave her opponent ten meters before her as little more than a cactus by the end of the assault, hands posed above her head for a moment as she would use the high ground to reach back, the silks revealing the two black needle holsters and the final fourteen needles upon them. Gravity rotated the needles to face down as Hanbei would slip them free with a single motion.

S pinning once with one hand filled with six Hanbei would launch them in a horizontal fan in a backhand towards sero's back just underneath his arms. Needles that penetrated that area would likely go straight through lungs and perhaps even the heart as the girl would attack relentlessly with wave after wave of needles leading to the final hand of six rotating in the final spin, routing hanbei's weight down so that she would grind to a halt, ending on a single knee, the hand would rotate up and down rather than across, hurling another spread fan of six needles vertically down from Sero's head to his groin... the combination of the three throws would occur so quickly that by the time the first would have just impacted, the final flurry would have been released from Hanbei's hand.

Panting slightly, knowing that there would be a small field of needles surrounding Sero, Hanbei would know that he would be able to see that the girl appeared to be out of ammunition... should he look her way, and still be standing and relatively ok, Hanbei would crack an awkward smile, laughing a little as she hoped to somewhat break the ice.

"Aha-ha... I uh... Sorry?"

Hanbei would remark, standing still at 10m away from the man, taking a step backwards and looking as though she was ready to make a daring retreat into the trees again if she had to.

Nozomi

Unfortunately for her, although she wasn't surprised by it, Nozomi's kunai didn't go off when she would have liked it to. The Chakra in her couldn't even be used to activate an explosive Kunai. It was unfortunate, but not a total loss, she had planned for it anyhow. It was still possible that the explosion would happen in a few seconds, but it was forgotten for the moment.

Sero continued his advance towards her, and started to strafe around Nozomi, trying to move around her, to place her in between him and Hanbei. It was a smart tactic, but Nozomi had no interest in doing so. Not only did she not want to give up the flank, but she also wanted to make sure she wasn't being flanked herself. Hanbei could just as easily start attacking her, and while she was paying attention to Hanbei, she couldn't afford to be in Sero's position, having to focus on two high level shinobi at once.

Still, Nozomi's mind couldn't help but recall her bukijutsu training with Sero when she and Maigo had both teamed up against him. She had been his lesser then, and Maigo vastly below the both of them, and it had gone rather poorly until she had abandoned trying to keep Maigo relevant. However, this circumstance was different. Everything seemed to be more even, down to overall skill rather than anything else. And Nozomi wasn't a novice anymore.

As Sero moved to her right, Nozomi instead of retreating backwards, chose to bolt to the left. Hanbei was a ranged fighter, and if he could wear down Sero with hits here and there, she wouldn't even be forced to engage him in close combat. It was a bit of a dirty tactic, but he was focusing on her rather than Hanbei, so her best bet was to not engage at all. Keeping Sero following her but not fighting Hanbei. Without ranged weapons, he was forced to engage one of them, open to counters from a far the entire time.

Besides, getting into combat with Sero at melee range would be difficult enough without having to then worry about Hanbei hitting her. And rightly so, as Hanbei's barrage on Sero began as Nozomi moved away from Sero. Grabbing her pouch of Makibishi, Nozomi ripped it off, scattering the spikes down behind her. If Sero chose to follow, it wouldn't be without having to deal with her trap either. Not having jutsu was detrimental, but she had plenty of ninja tools to cover up for that loss. If anything, she was trained to deal with this by Himitsu training alone.

Her clan had been created with an offensive ability to take on the Hyuuga clan. The possibility of losing use of jutsu against them was always there, so they honed their Taijutsu enough to fight on par with them. Although none of them used Bukijutsu to a high extent, Nozomi had taken her training seriously when she became a Bukijutsu practitioner. She had prepared for this eventuality. For now, she needed to think of a way to fight Hanbei. She didn't appear to be armed at the start of this, but there were needles thrown that begged to differ. And she was sure to have something else up her sleeve as well.

She surveyed behind her and to her side to see the positioning of Sero and Hanbei, and take view of the aftermath. Perhaps Sero was hounding her, uninjured, and ready to strike, in which case she'd need to respond anyhow. Perhaps Hanbei was getting ready to attack her, in which case she'd need to deal with that. Perhaps something else had happened entirely. Regardless, she needed bearings. She'd only moved about 10 meters in total, and wasn't that far from her starting location, although she was now almost in the center of the perimeter.

Drawing her superior Tanto with her left hand, Nozomi was prepared to deal with whatever she needed to do from that moment on. There would likely be no more retreating from that point on.

In the spirit of fairness I am going to roll a six sided die for Hanbei's hit on Sero. I have mentioned that in the future, when taking a hit, it is imperative to explain exactly where that hit landed, at which point a better ruling can be made if needed. On a 3-6 the hit the artery and Sero will be bleeding out quickly, on a 1 or 2 it will pass through him while doing minor damage. There will be no arguing with the dice as chance is not so easily persuaded.

This will not happen again.

Sero would smell it as well. There was some blood near him. He had not shed any yet and neither of his opponents had appeared to attack each other. His approach to Nozomi was failing as she was evading getting close to him as of yet. The other though had managed to get behind him. He could smell blood and he knew it was likely his own. A glance over his shoulder was enough to note the increasing amounts of blood where he had walked and a Hanbei coming up with an attack from above. She had drawn his blood and he hadn't noticed? Even now she was throwing something he could barely see. Flying through the air and launching needles all over his torso. She was going to be a problem as was his blood loss soon. Normally he would just burn the wound and deal with it later. However for now he had neither the time or the ability. The monster in him wished to charge head on into the attack he could barely see but he knew better. Instead he would drop down to one knee. His hand holding the broad head of the halberd would dart back and forth. With him crouched as he was it was an effective defense. Less body to cover with this blade being remodeled into a makeshift shield.

As he lowered he would shift the wide blade of the halberd back and forth knocking senbon from their intended goals to litter the ground immediately around him. Flurry after flurry in a wide variety of patterns would rush at him. However the wide blade was enough with mere small shifts while studying his opponents throws. Little was hidden in the style. A simple upfront assault of dark senbon after dark senbon. However he wasn't simply remaining still. He had identified where the foreign object was in his thigh and how profusely it was bleeding. It wasn't so much by feel as it was by identifying the location of the wound. However that was the most he could do while deflecting the projectiles. Luckily Nozomi had retreated for the time being. Had she attempted to intervene and attack him right then he would have been unable to defend both directions at once. Still the young ranged attacker had landed and started another onslaught. Once more he continued to block anything that would otherwise hit him vitally. However there might be something a little odd that Hanbei might notice. The couple of needles that got through and should have skinned some flesh from his shoulders instead deflected as if they had hit the blade itself.

Still as all the weapons fell to the ground and it was a variable field of senbon around him Sero would pause a moment. Observing Hanbei and Nozomi. Like an injured beast now angry at its hunters. His free hand would lower to remove the ribbon on his Wakizashi. Using it to tie it tightly around the senbon wound and careful not to remove it. It would cut off circulation to his leg but it would slow the bleeding a bit. He would rise up then. A looming shadow of anger that someone would so readily attack him and remain so confident. His grey eyes staring at them as he considered them a moment. They had chosen to remain the main threat. They had caused a wound that would make it so his chances of besting Nozomi had minimized. He was angry at being attacked from behind, angry that this person wasn't taking him seriously. Angry in so many ways. He looked upon his enemy and spoke up. So Nozomi could hear him.

"Captain Himitsu Nozomi. This individual has wounded me. They have chosen to do battle with me. As a warriors request, I ask you to remain out of the fight and engage the winner. I must teach the welp a lesson."

He didn't expect Nozomi to miss this opportunity. However he held himself to a code. He had his blood drawn. Now it was time to draw blood in turn. He had never been an honorable warrior in the sense of he only drew his sword with purpose. To defend the weak or to end suffering. It was suffering that gave birth to him. He had been born to rise from the blood and ashes of the fallen and draw so much blood in turn none would dare to attempt anything again. He was the phantom of the bloody mist. He would show this young ling he was no mere man. He would still turn his full attention to Hanbei. Shadows seemed to stretch out as whispers would seem to fill the air. The dead coming to welcome another. It was of course just Sero's aura but if seemed so real. Sero would take his halberd and shove it down into the ground at his feet. He would go on the offense now. With a sudden shift of his upper torso and pushing his weight into his good leg. With both hands slamming into the haft of the weapon so it bent and groaned audibly until suddenly snapping back into its straight position. With it a cloud of dirt and senbon would go flying all around and through the area Hanbei was standing in. And right behind it Sero was moving behind the cover of dust and senbon. Halberd thrusting forward as he watched for Hanbei. Aiming to thrust the blade into his center mass.

'As the hail stopped storming, the thunder of war dulled its roar.‘

Hanbei would stand up straight, though it seemed that Sero had more or less fanned away each of Hanbei's attacks, the wide end of the halberd seemed to be rather expansive, swatting Hanbei's linear fans of Senbon away. Though the fact he had managed to do so against the random grouping of sixteen needles was something a little more amazing. The wind force of the strikes seeming to veer away the needles on their lethal paths until finally as the attacks cleared, the man ignored Hanbei's banter, instead speaking up to nozomi, not taking his eyes away from Hanbei for an instant, knowing as he did so the tied off wound, though it would likely help stem some of the bleeding as it would bruise rapidly under the pressure. The material would begin to become soaked quickly. But, it was time for Hanbei to truly think about his next move, the sky halberd in his hands was a potent and versatile weapon that was well known to the monks of the fire temple, she'd watched the monks practice their katas with it for an age, however, it had its limits in extreme close range.

'Hanbei knew it was a risk.'

After Hanbei listened to Sero speaking to Nozomi, asking, if not demanding, for a one on one dual with the Guanyin in the meantime... Hanbei of course, didn't feel very comfortable with the setup, especially if Nozomi agreed, so, before the next round in the conflict began, Hanbei would look to Nozomi in turn, over the shoulder of Sero and speak loudly and clearly, no longer trying to maintain the meek facade as much as she had been up until now... Nozomi was perhaps the only one here who would be able to help Hanbei, who was still short of her Black senbon as ammunition."Uhm, I uh, don't suppose I could lend that Tanto now... haha..." Hanbei would speak nervously before she was cut off by the sharp sound of the stab of Sero's halberd piercing into the ground, straining and bending as Hanbei had a feeling what was going to come next, she could see the gathering of his needles and the earth begin to give. Not bothering to wait around at what was going to happen next, Hanbei would dart to one side, keeping her attention on Sero and his actions as the ground would explode with dirt and her own dark colored senbon lacing the debris as it hurled in her direction. The active movement of her strafing sideways would leave much of the attack in her wake, though, as one needle came close, Hanbei would dive in a roll, loosing no speed or momentum as she would reach out and grasp the free flying needle, gripping it tightly, planting her other hand on the ground and twisting out of the path of another incoming senbon and rock before routing back to her feet and continuing her path away from Sero's charge

Diving behind a tree, covered from Sero's sight moments before he would reach Hanbei in that solitary moment of obstruction, Hanbei would whip out a hand, a strand of her mantle catching the bark as Hanbei would in a single motion route her momentum upwards, keeping at least one point of contact with the tree at all times as she would be more than ten feet up in an instant, looking down at Sero as his lunge would meet little but air in her wake. Hanbei, temporarily hovering in the air above him as she would propose her next strike, instead thinking to begin moving from one tree to the next, keeping off the ground and darting slalom from side to side through cover, dipping and diving at chaotic angles so that the thought of him using that spear like a javelin would not cross his mind as branches and Hanbei's on mode of transport as she would hope to make an escape through the ready high ground would throw Sero off her tail for the mean time, neither of them faster than one another, and the distance that they had begun at, would allow Hanbei to keep a perpetual lead on the Captain of the swordsmen, if not moving faster due to his wounded and bound leg.

But, as usual, there was another plan, if Sero intended to give chase, moving on that leg at the same breakneck speeds that would be required to catch Hanbei, would no doubt strain the limb, likely compounding the injury. Sprinting at top speed on a wound like that was never the grandest of ideas after all... But, as Hanbei would make her way ten trees down the lane she would turn to face Sero, perched on one of the thicker branches, turning the remainder of her focus, as opposed to her peripherals on the Captain. If he wanted to fight, he was going to fight her way, and hopefully, hopefully a mistake would make itself known to Hanbei, if not, hopefully there was a means of making the bleeding a little more severe.

Things began to get interesting as Nozomi turned. Not only had Sero not begun to follow in her wake, but he was still where he had been, needles surrounding him, and tying off the wound in his leg. Otherwise he appeared uninjured. It was then that he turned to her, asking her to not fight any of them, needing a warrior's request to regain his honor, and to fight Hanbei one on one. It was something she as a fighter could respect, although it was someting she as a Hunter-nin screamed at herself to ignore, and to take the opportunity to take him down.

However, this battle was important to Sero, and he was a close friend, nodding her head, she looked over to Hanbei as she addressed Sero. "Captain Sero Osada, I will oblige your request. However, I would see that your opponent be slightly more armed. Regardless of the victor, I won't feel right about besting you while you're injured, and even in this scenario, when we don't have chakra, it doesn't feel right. If you win and I beat you after, we'll have a rematch when we have chakra again." She would launch her Tanto towards Hanbei halfway through her little speech, although not directly at her, in fact, further back, so it would lodge itself into a tree. Not with so much force it was stuck there, but enough so it stayed.

That done, she was inclined to watch their fight with earnest. This could be an interesting developement. Sero might win, which he would be closer to exhaustion by the time he did, or he'd wear out Hanbei. Either way, it was down to 1 on 1's, and Nozomi didn't have to fight anyone. She could conserve, and she didn't even have to trick anyone into attacking each other. She remained vigilant of course, needing to make sure there was no attacks thrown her way, also so that she would know when it was her turn to step in. Would it be Hanbei, or would it be Sero?

Sero

Sero would watch his opponent dodge as the Halberd created the cloud of debris. Senbon flinging in random directions and slamming into tree's and the ground. His lunge was also without anything gained. However the senbon had flung everywhere for several meters. His Halberd hung in mid air with a ringing noise from a perfect thrust as his cold grey gaze would take a careful glance around. The target had fled him and he knew the obvious plan. The more he had to move, the more time he wasted the less effective he would be. His eyes narrowed at the sound of bark being torn into as he followed the noise upwards. There stood his enemy. This Hanbei thinking themselves safe from him due to keeping at a range. It was a solid tactic. Sero was at a disadvantage and this person fought as a shinobi should. Striking from a range where they were safe. However to a swordsman this tactic seemed without honor. However tactics were always paramount to honor. He would not blame this person for using their mind. However he would not allow them to fell him unscathed. They had the high ground, they had the intention of letting him bleed out. He needed to stop this.

So Sero would shift the Halberd back into its holster on his back as the individual took to darting from tree to tree. Sero would follow in as direct a direction as he could. A fairly linear path in comparison as their path took them further from Nozomi and towards the barrier of flames. As Sero moved he began to collect senbon into his left hand by the handful. Tucking them into his clothing as he was careful to not set the points against his flesh. As he moved he had collected a good fifteen senbon from the ones that had been tossed at him before. Many left behind but this would do. Nozomi's tanto would fly through the air ahead of them. Slamming into a tree a good five feet up. If this Hanbei was going to go for it they would have to come down lower. However Sero wasn't going to discourage heading for the blade so close to the barrier of flamelings. Instead he would take one Senbon at a time. Taking aim and waiting with his hand ready to throw. Careful to keep as much of his weight off his wounded leg as possible.

As Hanbei would dart from one tree to the next the first thing they would hear is a whistle. A senbon set to cut them off from the direction they were going. If they continued forward the senbon would slam into their ankles. Low enough that they would have to consider changing direction or if they could perhaps catch it. He had noted the one in her hand after all. She was capable of catching her own weapons. The goal of aiming so low was to make that as difficult as possible. However after the initial one two would be thrown as Sero would moderately keep up by traveling in a straight line. Predicting the obvious landing branch and footing each time Hanbei darted into the open. Either forcing them to block their own Senbon or evade it by progressing closer to the barrier of flames. Closer to the tanto. The weapon of their hope and they were barely closer to it than Sero was. They were running out of running room. Sero had to idly wonder though of an off chance. What if they cleared the barrier from above and got to the other side? Would they have access to their chakra again? If so Sero would find his plans faltered.

Hanbei~

Special Jounin
'The enemy was at the gates‘

Charging from an opponent hot on her heels, Hanbei could not hope to move any faster than her feet were bounding through the trees, moving up, down, feeling the weight of gravity chaotically shifting her center of mass as her stomach for a moment felt like it was in her lungs moments before she would jet forward, making her register it pressed up against her spine. Slaloming from side to side until there was a thwack of a knife against a tree in the direction Hanbei was heading for. All the while as Hanbei ran there were hissing sounds following after her. Using little more than her ears, she would ascertain the location and direction of each of the familiar Senbon bulleting through the air for her feet, at some of her intended destinations, causing her to reach out, grabbing a branch before impact and alter her direction or stall her descent for a microsecond before picking back up again. At least with Sero, not wanting to put pressure on his leg he would still be hard pressed to move faster then the Guanyin.

'But it was time to switch things up.'

Hanbei knew the moment that she saw and heard the Tanto etch its tip into an incoming tree that Sero would have heard and been attracted to the sheen of the weapon hurling across the air and landing there also. So, Hanbei would have to alter the plan somewhat. Rather than running from tree to tree until she reached her destination she would reach the second to last tree in the sequence, this time pivoting on the branch to turn and face sero, the one black needle in her hand as she would hurl it at full strength for the hollow nape of his neck, a point where there was no bone, to either side was flesh and shoulder and should he duck he would risk a head-shot with the needle before Hanbei would plummet straight down behind the tree as cover, gripping to the side of the tree's bark like a spider with the help of her skin out of sight of the monster that followed, coiling like a spinning spring, thrusting out of the area quick enough to almost defy line of sight.

Within a fraction of a moment Hanbei would be clutching the weapon, not pulling it free but rather digging it in, using it as an anchor to spiral around this tree once again. Hopefully eluding the Captain of the Seven Swordsman's keen eyes. Never moving in a straight line for too long, or moving so suddenly within a potentially randomized time frame, that she would attempt to take that fraction of a moments advantage where Sero would have to freshly process speed and angle. But by then, it would be too late, the angle would change and Hanbei would have moved to cover yet again. It was from this position that Hanbei would wait, sinking down low, lower than 2 feet off the ground, using her size as an advantage as she would listen to the pitter patter of Sero moving against the ground, clutching the weapon in her hands as she would do her best to not even make a sound. Hanbei was ready for a couple of scenarios. The first, that he put a weapon straight through the tree, hanbei would be ready to roll to a side as soon as the weapon impacted the bark on one side and pull free...

The second, was for an attack to come from an angle, if it were low, low enough to hit her, Hanbei would have to block the weapon head on, or, use her coiled form once again and the tree as an anchor to climb, but, that was what she had done twice already now, and would no doubt be seen as an obvious move, no, it was time to stay grounded, low, defy expectations as she made herself as small as possible, keeping in the perfect shadow of the tree in comparison to Sero... But then there was the third option, and possibly the most violent, Sero simply bulleting around the tree, full speed weapons drawn for a clear cut head on fight. Hanbei wasn't sure what she would do int hat instance at that precise moment, but the idea was at the edge of her thought.

'This Sero was a contender'

However this fight ended, it would be over in an instant, not in a long drawn out collapse on his or her behalf. So, perhaps, it was time to meet him head on herself.

Nozomi

avatar

Nozomi watched as the two of them darted off to continue on with their honor duel. As they did so, she set about watching their fighting skills and tactics, taking note of the particular styles each one exhibited. Of course, she was intimately familiar with Sero's fighting abilities, but perhaps he would surprise her with new things here. It was Hanbei she was really watching though, having little information on the young one's skills.

Walking around to allow herself a good view of the fight, Nozomi also picked up some of the scattered Senbon Hanbei had thrown earlier. They seemed to be a cut above the average run of the mill senbon that most shinobi would utilize. On that alone, it seemed she was a fighter who specialized in these tiny needles. That was good, Nozomi had undergone extensive training when she had become a Hunter-nin Captain. Part of that training included knowledge of the areas those needles could be most effective. As long as she protected those areas, she didn't really care if she got hit by them.

In that manner, needles were less of an outright danger than shuriken and kunai which opened up larger wounds, but in the hands of a skilled practitioner, Senbon were far more precise and deadly, with little more than the area they needed to cover. Hanbei was more than met the eye it seemed, if these were her primary tools. They betrayed a level of understanding that most wouldn't have. To some, it could have been perceived that she just liked these tools and could carry more, but Nozomi wasn't so foolish. Hanbei had made it here, and that was enough for Nozomi to recognize Hanbei's talent.

That said, she didn't have Nozomi's training either. She was a combat prodigy, mastering as many forms of head on combat as possible. Sure, she wasn't a genius, but she didn't need to be. She thought up her strategies on the fly, and had never been led astray yet, except against Enaka. Where others would plan for months and weeks, thinking of all the possibilities, Nozomi threw herself in blind, and always came out on top. Sero and Hanbei were just new obstacles for her to overcome. Sero was a monster, but one who could be defeated. Hanbei was unknown, and thats how Nozomi liked it.

As she was gathering the needles, Nozomi noticed something interesting however. The flames ringing the perimeter started to move, closing in. She cursed under her breath. That was sure to draw the fighting back to her. Hopefully one of them managed to pick off the other one before then, she really didn't want to fight both of them at once without her jutsu. But since she was in the center of the arena, she would be what they worked back to. Making up her mind, if they got close enough, she'd go on the offensive, but for now, she'd wait, having collected the senbon she needed, retreiving her Kunai in the process.

Her next move would be to start collecting the Makibishi she'd scattered, so she could utilize them to greater effect in the future. They were only useful against Sero for the moment, as Hanbei was a ranged fighter, but if she saw an opportunity to use them, she would.

Sero

avatar

Sero watched with keen eyes as he perused his prey. Studying them on the brief moments they appeared. Thin and live. Precision was their fighting style. Even as he had been moving they had managed to deal a terrible blow to him. His pace was careful now so they were keeping ahead of him. Even though the pattern was random his timed shots with patience were effective enough to direct them to turn closer and closer to the wall and conveniently the tanto. He wanted his opponent to face him as the tanto suggested they would. Still it wasn't as if they were harmless at the moment. Mid air at one point as they drew close to the tanto they turned and their arm shot out. Of course he had used the Senbon he had collected already luring them to this point. Wishing to corner them and engage them. He was aware his bodies strength wouldn't hold out much longer before his power waned. He needed to engage quickly. For now he would need to consider the projectile. It was dark against the dim light but he had become accustomed to this. His right hand shot up as the needle flew true to the angle it had been directed.

With the practice of a master of weapons his hand snatched the single Senbon merely inches from his throat out of the air. His grey eyes shifting as the individual ground down from where the tanto was back to cover behind a tree. He had been wondering something for a moment though. They had been climbing the rough tree's and holding themselves aloft without holding more than the one Senbon they had just thrown at him. Likely they had some other tool that had yet to reveal itself. Something that had the ability to grip something as harsh as bark. If he had to bet on anything his educated guess was something else to do with Senbon. It would be foolish to assume simply because they hadn't continued to assault him at a range that they only had the tanto. His eyes narrowed as their form darted once more. His attention hardly taken for but a moment with the single projectile. Noting them taking cover at ground level. His intentions were to engage closely at this point but something else had caught his eye. Something he had been interested in from the beginning.

Beyond where the young one took cover the fires were now inching forward. Drawing tighter together. The time was coming where they would all be drawn back into close combat. What was more though was this Hanbei was on the side of the battlefield with him closer to the fires. Meaning they would have to come across him in order to reach the center before the fires did. With that in mind Sero would shift the Senbon to his mouth. Gripping it side to side in his teeth. His hand pressed to a nearby tree as he felt it shift under a simple push. They were thin and had hardly held up Hanbeis temporary weight. They would have snapped under his. With that his mind was made up. Quietly he would draw out his large Kiri great sword. The heavy blade difficult to wield even for Sero. However the weight of the weapon would benefit him here with the speed he would need. He would smile as his own hunting games were about to begin. Hanbei taking cover and remaining out of his sight meant they were unsure of where he was too. Which would do well enough for him.

Careful to keep his eyes on Hanbei's position and using his good leg to pivot his first slash would take down two tree's in one great cleave as he continued to back peddle. Taking out tree's two at a time in the quickest path towards the center having felled four tree's before he twisted his neck and let the senbon launch at the end of the twist. The senbon flying from his mouth of all places to the tree where Hanbei had taken cover. Too high to hit anything since he wasn't aware they were keeping low but the senbon itself took out a chunk of bark on the left side of the tree where it impacted. Simply something to discourage coming out from the cover of the tree. With that he felled two more as six tree's crashed down around him with their branches snapping and flying everywhere. Breaking off of him as he avoided anything that might impale him. However once the tree's fell it was quiet. The fireballs were closing in and there was an open field of fallen tree's between Hanbei and safety. Between Hanbei and Nozomi with Sero hidden from sight. If he moved to find a way around the fallen tree's he would be heading into a closing wall of flames. They had gone too far from the center for Hanbei to not go through where Sero was obviously hidden.

Hanbei~

avatar

Special Jounin
'Hanbei watched the flickering wall of flame draw closer‘

However the sound of the footprints stopped coming as Hanbei would then hear the loud sound of a large blade be drawn from her opponent, far from silent as her eyes would widen, thinking for a moment that Sero would be keen to cleave the entire tree in two vertically with somme kind of ancestral butchers' knife. However, as the sounds of Sero began to move away, clearing out trees as they became more and more distant, Hanbei would begin to move to look out, rejected as a needle penetrated the side of the tree above him, its sharp pinion sticking out of the other end, happily, hanbei would collect it, smiling at the thought of having some more of her guanyin needles on her side. It had taken out a chunk of the tree, but Hanbei had counted her needles for the most part, Unless sero had collected more, which she hadn't seen or heard him do, he should be nearing empty when it came to ammunition reserves. Considering how many he had thrown in pursuit of Hanbei. However, by now it had been a few more precious seconds, the wall that was approaching was little more than three meters from her location, but, considering the sound of the swinging sword in the distance, Sero would be almost 30 meters away from her position now, even if he had a hidden attack, there likely would be enough time to see it coming. But Hanbei had stretched time to the limit, knowing the slower she was, the more advantage she had against Sero.

With caution, and ready to recoil in a moment's notice, the wall closing in at about 1/2 a meter per second, Hanbei would peer out, seeing many trees had been cut down, but, no matter. It was a shame she was not able to enact her own trap, but, c'est la vie. The trees had been cut down two by two in a line towards the center, but, Hanbei was never one to run in a straight line, instead, choosing to spiral inwards at breakneck speeds, keeping slightly faster inwards pace than the wall as it continued to enclose at Hanbei's heels. It was then she saw the obvious nest of trees in a circle within the center of the arena. It seemed that Sero had created a fighting stage for them. As she moved inwards, making sure to pass through, and scoop up some of her own needles she had thrown in the first volley against Sero at the beginning she would have a reserve sum of ten, looking through the low branches from the small trees as Sero stood within them, quite visible to her keen eyes through some of the branches as she got a little closer.

'Stage 1, preliminary strike.'

With five of the needles in each of her hands, Hanbei would cluster two between her forefingers and thumb and three between her lower three fingers, hurling them through gaps in the branches, two for his head for each of his eyes, and three for his lower thighs again two for one, and one for the other. Spinning, and moving to a slightly different angle, Hanbei would attempt the same attack again, but, rather than throw them all at once, Hanbei would perform a double axel like a figure skater, hurling two at head height and two for the center of each thigh on the first spin, then the final of the pinion like needles for the inside of his hip bone, just left of the crotch, a needle there would be like putting a cog in the middle of a machine, pinning the muscles together like fabric and making movement likely difficult if not impossible. The delayed needle hoping to catch the bleeding Sero off guard as he became more and more tired. Using the spinning as a chance to keep an eye on her flanks when it came to nozomi...

But once again, Hanbei was out of that ammunition.

Hopefully, yet unintentionally, the sudden throw of more of the same breed of needles putting aside the notion that Hanbei only had but one remaining in which to cling to trees, and delaying any thought of a greater or separate apparatus. Perhaps there was just another reserve of the black thorns not on the wrists? But who could know, as Hanbei would in a spiralling vault make a hard ninety degree turn, spiraling with the Tanto in-front of him and snapping through some branches, appearing to one side of the barrier nearest the fallen trees Tanto out in front cutting away at them and ready to parry an odd projectile as Hanbei would pivot on a hand and rotate to her feet, wielding the Tanto in an ice pick grip with the other hand in an open palm, almost tai chi stance... Sero was holding a great sword, a terrifying weapon. One hit from that to anywhere unguarded or unprepared on Hanbei and it would surely be the end of things... but thankfully, Hanbei was small, she was also dexterous and lithe... this fight, would likely come down to the first few blows... but, with just a Tanto... was there much she was able to do?

No she couldn't give up, chakra or no she was going to fight this monster head on, it was weakening, but dangerous, likely there would be some form of heroic last stand for Sero Osada, but that time didn't seem to be right this second. As hanbei jumped through she would be ready for a horizontal swing of the blade to catch her as she came through, ready to parry and force herself over the blade with her forward momentum, more or less using the tanto two handed as a safety platform with two hands. But, as he was standing still and Hanbei had entered so close and suddenly to one side, she felt like such a sudden attack, clearing nearly 5m of distance and swinging would put Sero, not Hanbei at a disadvantage, as Hanbei would have had almost all the time she needed to recover from her entry first, and the spring and dedication and force required to make such a sudden and forceful lunge with the great-sword would surely put great strain on his wounded leg.

Nozomi

Nozomi watched as the fight seemed to finally progress. Hanbei had successfully retrieved the Tanto, and Sero had felled some trees. With the flames finally starting to close in, the fight was well on its way to ending soon. And yet they weren't close enough for her to attack yet.

Her eyes narrowed as she collected the last Makibishi, attaching the pouch back to her flak jacket. With her weapons collected and Hanbei's needles in addition, she was ready to capitalize the instant the fight ended should she need to.

She wasn't sure which way it would go. Sero was obviously the one she thought would win, but at the same time, he did have a disadvantage going against him. Everything was far too close to call, but for now it seemed Hanbei was going to meet him in close quarters. The fight would be determined soon.
