“Destiny, wake up! Come on, little one!”, came a male voice from the doorway of her bedroom, startling her from the slumber that her young body and still developing mind needed so desperately. Opening her eyes sleepily she noticed a glow coming through her bedroom windows though the clock read only three in the morning: beyond her windows she could hear screaming and at first she couldn’t help but wonder if there was some kind of party going on, only to realize after a short second that those screams were not playful or filled with laughter they were instead filled with terror and pain. “Come on sweetheart, you’ve got to move, we don’t have much time!”

Slipping from her bed she found her slippers, shuffling her feet across the floor as fast as they could go while reaching for the man in the doorway – her daddy. He scooped her up and into his arms, holding her close to his body while he began to move at a dead run down the hallway and down the stairs. As they went one of her slippers fell off and she attempted to reach back, hand opening and closing as she attempted to grab the slipper only to be too far away. “Wait, daddy! My slip slip fell!”, she called out with a whine. “It’s fine dear, we can’t go back, we can’t I’m sorry!”, her father responded, and though he tried to hide hide and mask his frantic nature from his voice it couldn’t be helped. No, it couldn’t be helped at all, just like it couldn’t be helped that Destiny picked up on it. “Daddy, what’s wrong? What’s going on?”, she suddenly asked, begging for any information, any clue as to what was wrong. It made her remember the screams, and the weird glow peaking through her windows. What could be going on outside? Was that was her father was acting like this?

“There’s no time to explain, little one. I just need you to listen to me and do exactly what I say, okay?”, her father responded, his voice shaking just a tad less than it had been before as he made his way down the steps and into the foyer of their grand home. “Can you do that for me, my little angel?”, he asked upon realizing that Destiny had given him no verbal response. “Please dear, I need you to do this.”, he added, pleadingly.

It was his pleading that got through to Destiny, and she nodded her head as her father pulled her back long enough to look at her face. “Okay, daddy.”, she barely managed to get out, sniffling and still upset as she was over her lost slipper.

“Good, now I want you to go with Demi. Go on, go with her your sister.”, her father responded as her elder sister hurried into the room with a scroll being tucked up her sleeve. Her sister immediately reached for her and Destiny was transferred over to her sisters arms though she reached for her father. “But daddy, aren’t you coming with?!”

Her father didn’t respond, instead he looked at Demi, focusing his attention onto her. “Take your sister and head to the safe location. I have got to help see what I can do. Take her and go. Do not let anyone stop you: even if they’re from our village, cut them down if you have to.”, he ordered before kissing both of his daughters on their forehead and heading off in the other direction. Destiny reached even harder for her father, screaming “DADDY!” at the top of her lungs even as her sister carried her out of the house, holding tightly on to her to keep her from escaping her arms. “DAAA--”, the words were cut off as Destiny took a look at the world around her and truly realized for the first time what was going on: the village was on fire, people were running every which way in complete terror and chaos, some even lay dead in the streets...

Destiny awoke with a jolt and a gasp, her heart racing and her breathing hard. With wide eyes filled with terror belonging to a long ago past she looked around her nearly pitch black room. It took her several seconds to realize she wasn’t still dreaming: there was no glow coming through her windows that spoke of the fire beyond, there were no screams filled with terror and pain filling the air along with the black acrid smoke. It was peaceful and quiet, it was exactly as it had been when she had fallen asleep not more than four hours earlier.

“Ugh!”, with a sigh and a flop she allowed her body to fall backwards into the plush blankets and pillows beneath her. It was just a dream: that was it. There was no fire, no burning village, no dead bodies. It had been nothing more than her subconscious kicking up images and voices from a time long ago just to torment her. She was safe and sound in Konohagakure no Sato, in the plush hotel suite she had paid for for herself, and beyond her doors and windows was only silence and peace. Another sigh sounded from her lips and she glanced at the clock on the bedside table: it showed five oh five in the morning. “There’s no way I’m going back to sleep after that nightmare...”, she muttered to herself, noticing that each time she tried closing her eyes all she could see was her dream alive and well once more in her head.

No, sleep definitely wouldn’t be on the agenda for today – though she knew what would be. There were multiple purposes for her coming to Konoha, but the most important one was something she had been neglecting to do for the past several days and that was locating her sister Demi. Demi was a Malkavia, everything from her appearance to her mannerisms caused her to stand out in a crowd. Destiny had been fairly certain that spotting her sister would be no trouble at all – but she had been wrong. Not that she had been looking too hard for her, but she was fairly certain that if Demi was actually in the village she would have seen or at least heard about her by now. She hadn’t, and that was worrisome. This was the last village her sister had been spotted in, and the trail was nonexistent from here. “Why couldn’t I have been born into a useful clan, like the Inuzuka? Then finding her would be no trouble at all...”, Destiny muttered beneath her breath as she lifted her hands and rubbed at her eyes, breaking away the ‘sand’ and crud that littered them every morning. A third sigh escaped her lips and she found herself shaking her head – of course Demi wasn’t going to make this task easy. Of course, it wasn’t like Destiny had a concrete reason for locating her sister – outside of the fact that she was lonely, or semi-lonely since she had found a new friend. But, she rather liked the idea of checking on her elder sister and making sure she was okay, something she preferred to do from time to time to make sure that Demi hadn’t got herself in trouble or that something worse hadn’t happened to her because her elder sister was just a little too bat shit insane to care about those kinds of things herself.

“Well, suppose I might as well get up… by the time I fall back to sleep I’ll end up burning too much daylight to end up doing much searching today.”, she muttered to herself, pausing to wonder if she was perhaps going a little insane herself with the fact that she kept talking to herself. She shook her head to shake the thoughts away and to stop herself from answering her own question. Instead she focused on tossing the covers back and off of herself, shivering in the coldness of the room as she had forgot to turn off the fans and air conditioner the night before when she had come home fairly hot. Folding her arms across her chest and leaving her warm and comfortable bed behind she moved about the room turning the box fan off as well as the ceiling fan before heading over to the thermostat and turning it up so that the air conditioner would immediately shut off. “Brrrr!” Making her way into the bathroom in hopes that a hot shower would warm her up she winced as her feet went from the carpet of the bedroom to the cold tile of the bathroom floor. “Double ugh..”, she muttered beneath her breath as she stood on the rug outside of the shower. She closed the door from where she was standing, not bothering with locking it, before turning her attention onto the shower and turning it on, ignoring the cold water entirely for now as she simply allowed the steam to begin to fill up the bathroom – hoping it would help to warm it up a bit before she stripped out of her nightclothes. Taking a shower in a freezing cold bathroom was just as not fun as ending up being stuck taking a freezing cold shower in the first place.

Folding her arms across her chest once more she simply pushed back the shower curtain even more and waited – she wasn’t paying the water bill after all, so she didn’t really care at the moment if a bit more got wasted to make her experience a bit more comfortable.

It didn’t take her long to get the bathroom good and properly steamed up by just letting the hot spray run, and as soon as she was comfortable enough with the semi-warm temperature of the bathroom she adjusted the spray, adding a tad bit of cold to it to keep it from scalding her when she stepped beneath it. She undressed quickly, tossing her night clothing into the hamper off in the corner of the bathroom before stepping into the shower and closing the curtain behind herself to keep the water from spraying out onto the bathroom floor – last thing she needed after all was to slip and fall and be found by some maid when her room was cleaned later on. Shaking the thought from her head she made quick work in washing up her hair, ensuring that every pink strand was coated in coconut scented shampoo before being rinsed thoroughly out. Conditioner followed which she let sit and soak into her hair while she lathered her flesh up with body-wash and then rinsed off. As soon as her body was clean of soap she followed suit with her hair, rinsing out the excess conditioner and leaving her hair silky smooth and shiny. With her shower finished she found herself just standing under the spray for a moment while loathing the idea of getting out from beneath it: the water was warm and comfortable, unlike what the rest of the bathroom would feel like on her bare wet skin regardless of how steamy and hot she had got the bathroom. However, a sigh would escape her lips as she felt the water beginning to grow colder, and she knew her time within the shower was up. Shutting the spray off before it could end up going icy on her, she shivered as she pulled back the shower curtain and reached over to the rack to grab her long fluffy towel which was white in color and covered by a celtic looking black pattern. She dried her face and hair first, then her neck and arms, before just wrapping the towel around herself and hugging it to her. With another shiver she sat herself down at the edge of the tub, remaining rubbed in her towel and just spending a moment trying to keep her teeth from chattering.

Having sat that so long she was nearly dry when she finally finished rubbing the towel over her flesh. She wrapped the towel around herself properly, securing it by tucking in the end – she didn’t know if the maid had shown up early after all while she was busy in the bathroom – before heading out into her bedroom and over to the dresser she had stored her clothing in. She dug through it a moment while trying to decide what exactly she wanted to wear: it had to be something practical if she was going to go searching for her sister, after all there was no telling what Demi might have got herself into, but it also had to look nice because that was just simply how Destiny did things. In the end, after standing there for nearly ten solid minutes of wasted time, she decided on a gray and pink horizontal stripped long sleeve thigh length dress which would cling to her chest and then flow out right below her rip cage, a pair of white leggings, and appropriate undergarments. She dressed in haste, completing her outfit by slipping her feet into a pair of nearly knee length boots. Glancing in the mirror she pulled and adjusted her clothing as needed until it all sat just right and she was satisfied before heading over to her dresser and pulling her hairbrush through her shoulder length pink hair. She took her time ensuring every knot was out of it while deciding on how she wanted to wear it. Feeling that practical was again the better option today she pulled it back in a ponytail save for the few pieces near her face that weren’t long enough to go back, and secured it into a bun with a scrunchy. Her dangling earrings were added next before some a light application of black eyeliner and some black mascara and pink lip gloss, before she put on her glasses with the circle frames whose lenses tinted pink in the sunlight.

Satisfied now with her appearance she grabbed her jacket off of the chair next to her bed where she had tossed it and headed out into the mini living room and kitchen setup of her hotel suit, her stomach roaring to life as silver hues fell upon the bowl of fruit sitting out.

The bowl of fruit was really too appealing to pass up, and she knew if she didn’t eat now she would only waste more time later on when she had to stop and actually grab something in the market. So, to the small kitchen she headed, taking up residence on one of the few stools that littered the backside of the counter. She grabbed a banana from the bowl and peeled the skin back from it, revealing the sweet tastiness inside. She took a bite of it with haste, pausing long enough to enjoy the flavor before chewing it thoroughly and swallowing. The next several bites were handled in much the same way until finally, after peeling the bananas skin the rest of the way back she popped the end into her mouth, chewed and swallowed it. She tossed the peal into the garbage and then glanced back to the bowl of fruit – she still felt hungry. Rolling her eyes at her appetite she instead ventured over to the fridge from which she pulled out a bottle of water, broke the seal on it, and took a long drunk. It wasn’t until half of the bottle was empty before she screwed the cap back on and put it on the counter: she planned on taking it with her after all.

Heading over to the living room where her jean canvas bag was laying open on the coffee table, some of its contents out on the table top such as a sketchbook with a picture of Demi on the front of it as she had looked the last time Destiny saw her as well as a multitude of pencils were, she quickly but carefully put everything away, saving her sketchbook for last before carefully ripping the page out with her sisters face on it and folding it up. The sketchbook was put into her bag and the bag closed up before she hooked it over her shoulder and headed back to the counter. The folded page was placed next to her water while she put her bag down and slipped on her leather jacket, leaving it unzipped for now. The folded page with her sisters likeness on it was tucked carefully into an inside pocket before her bag was slung by the strap across her chest. She tucked her bottle of water into a side pocket and then paused at the fruit bowl once more. She bit her bottom lip in contemplation for a moment before plucking a fresh, green granny smith apple out of the bowl and sliding it into one of the pockets of her bag – for later, or so she told herself. She was lying to herself and she knew it: chances were she was going to be starving by the end of the day, there was no way a simple apple was going to fill her up, and she was likely going to end up stopping at one of the nice little cafe’s in town to grab a bite. But, she’d live the lie as long as she could regardless of the fact that she knew the truth.

Destiny glanced around her hotel suite, trying to decide if she was forgetting anything while also making sure she had everything she needed. It struck her after a minute she was indeed forgetting something, and she had to double back into her bedroom to grab up her weapons pouch, securing it beneath her dress to her right thigh: hidden, but easily accessible. Satisfied she left her bedroom, leaving the door open so that the maid would know she wasn’t there and sleeping if she happened to stop by and grabbed her keys and ryo off of the table by the door – both of which were tucked into her pocket. She glanced back for just a moment more before unlocking her hotel room door and stepping outside. She pulled the door closed behind herself, giving it a good tug, before testing to make sure it wouldn’t open again. She had nothing of value left in there – her most prized possessions kept on her person at all times, but that didn’t mean she liked the idea of someone searching through her things. The maid coming in to clean was one thing, a random stranger who didn’t work for the hotel was not.

Destiny glanced up and down the hallway, finding it to be empty, before taking a right and heading towards the staircase. She knew the elevators to be working, but she hated the shut in feeling she always got when inside one – besides she preferred the exercise of having to go up and down the steps even though her hotel room was on the third floor. Even when she had brought her stuff to the hotel room she had drove the bellhop nuts by refusing to get on the elevator or allow him to carry any of her things as she decided on the steps. The thought brought a flicker of a smile across her perfect glossed pink lips as she stopped at the top of the staircase, waiting for another individual to pass by on their way up before beginning her journey down. She took each step at a time, trailing the fingertips of her left hand along the perfectly polished gold colored railing, while allowing her mind to wander on how she planned on going about searching for her sister.

She was fairly certain that if her sister had crossed through this village she would have left an impression – a Malkavia always did after all. So even something as simple as asking around in the market – yeah, we were definitely going to the market to ask questions and not sate the urge for bubble tea and food – might yield some results. She didn’t really want to talk to any shinobi directly if she could avoid it, let alone heading to the administration building to poke around and see what she could find out. Her sister Demi tended to get herself into trouble a lot after all, and the last thing Destiny wanted was to end up bringing that trouble knocking at her door, too. No, for her it was better to stick to the civilians and see what trail she could dig up before moving on to another plan. It had worked before when she had gone looking for her sister, it would certainly work now – she hoped.

Her thoughts had taken her down the three floors worth of stairs and into the lobby. She gave a wave to the man behind the counter who gave her a nod and smile in return, before she headed out the front doors and into the street. The hotel she was staying at was close to the market, only about a block away, a perfect location in her opinion as it meant she was nearby without having to deal with the early morning noise. She was a light sleeper after all, so the slightest bump or noise woke her up. She glanced up at the sky for a moment, watching a cloud drift by, before sighing softly and offering up a silent prayer to whatever deity was listening that she could find her sister easily and quickly.

Once finished she headed on her way, walking down the sidewalk and adjusting her bag to sit comfortably against her hip as she did so. It wouldn’t take her more than a minute to reach the market, and as she did so she pulled the picture of her sister out of her pocket and glanced around, wondering where a good place was to start asking questions.

She wandered through the market a bit, heading towards the food stalls – but not because her stomach was grumbling or anything or because she felt thirsty even though she had brought a half empty bottle of water with her – figuring that if anyone had seen her sister it would likely be the people who saw the most faces in a day: she just hoped that worked in her favor rather than against it. She stopped at several vendors, showing them the piece of paper with her sisters face on it, only to have several of them shake their head no at her. Her shoulders, once held back and proudly determined, began to slump as more and more people began to tell her the same thing: they had never saw her sister before in their lives.

Just as she was beginning to lose hope, thinking that she would never locate her elder sibling, she felt a tap on her shoulder and turned around to find an elderly man standing nearby and smiling. “You’re the girl looking for your sister, yeah? Tall, weird hair that was pink on one side and blue on the other like she dipped them in paint? Weird tattoos all over her body?”

Destiny was stunned and could only nod for a moment before finding her voice, “I… yes. That’s Demi. Have you seen her?”

The old man smiled a bit more and shrugged his shoulders. “Not for a few weeks. This young lady named Kaia~Mai used to come to my stall every morning and get bubble tea. Then she got married to this Daremo fellow and the pair took off to go do some exploring. I saw your sister being chased by Daremo one day – she was wearing a straight jacket and singing some weird song. He might know where your sister is. I’m not entirely sure where all Kaia~Mai said they’d be visiting though – I do remember she said something about meeting some of her husbands family in Kumogakure. You might want to try there first if you can’t find nothing around here.”

Destiny grinned and nodded. “Thank you! Can you describe Kaia or Daremo to me?”

“Of course, dear. Daremo is a tall fellow, wears a lot of fancy clothes – I’ve yet to see anyone selling them around here of course, so I don’t know where he gets them from. He’s got purple hair so I’m sure he’ll stand out, I think he had purple eyes too. Kaia’s very pretty, kind of short, wears a lot of beautiful kimono. She has long black hair and brilliant blue eyes – you’ll know them when you see them, you’ve never seen that kind of color before I can promise you that. Daremo was a doctor, and Kaia was training to be a medic, so when you get to Kumogakure you might want to try poking around the hospital or clinics to see if they’re there.”

“Thank you! Thank you so much!”, Destiny exclaimed excitedly, causing the old man to chuckle. “I hope you find your sister, have a good day now..”, he responded before heading back to his stall. Destiny folded up her piece of paper and turned around heading back to her hotel, only to come up short and pause: well, didn’t her having to go to Kumogakure put a damper in her plans with getting closer to Jinx. “…. ****.”
