It's been quite a while since Verdandi participated in that mission, Javelin. Together with Satoru she searched for this enemy transport convoy and was lured into a trap. Luckily for her though the invading forces were no match for her rank and skill. Verdandi had found the primary infiltrator back then. But there is either a network. Or an even bigger fish on the loose for this. Verd had honestly forgotten that this was still a thing and was busy on running her missions anyway. Continuous reports of sabotage mostly faded and the occasional small reappearance of this topic in her intel flow didn't really bother her beneath all the other troubles at the frontlines. Verd however, now got informed by mission HQ that new intel over her previous findings had surfaced and that the same inside-man was back at duty. Dandi moved to Kiri's Mission centre and sat her butt into a briefing that was however filled with other people. She was kind of taken back by this sudden display of crowded men in the room. Once the briefing was finished and they gave the latest intel on the spy, Verd moved in to ask her superior what this was all about. He started to inform her over how the spy has been causing more and more troubles. That he was open for bounty now and many Bounty Hunters just attended to make sure the are all informed about their latest intel. However, Verdandi had met the guy whom was considered responsible for Operation Javelin.

Seeing that that could be some sort of advantage for her. Dandi moved to the security ward. Kiri usually didn't take prisoners. So, him being still alive was something unusual. Obviously, they ought that he could still be of use. But he was too aware about how Kiri treats their prisoners once they had served their purpose. Execution was out for him. So, when Verdandi came for a visit. He grasped onto that little straw of hope that she, maybe could save his life. Unfortunately for him. Verd didn't really come here in the intention of really getting this man out of his misery. But rather see if she could squeeze something out of him that he hasn't told anyone yet. Verd spent hours talking with him. About why he had done this. Why he had betrayed his people. Whom it was to have recruited him and pulled him down into this. But the talk wasn't very fruitful until a certain point. Where he described when and how he used to communicate with the spy. Verdandi figured. A little detail he kept mentioning. A noise he kept hearing whenever they talked on the radio. A very distinctive siren call. Something that left most men oblivious when they had questioned him. But Verdandi knew this noise. It was something that went off in the medical ward when an emergency was on and about. A signal to the med-nin to get up from their break and get to work.

Verdandi knew this, cause she had been to that medical ward multiple times. Going back to it now. She'd find it abandoned and empty. Searching the area. Realizing that Kiri had moved the medics to a more central spot of their camp and simply didn't bother with breaking it down. The central unit of it somewhat built into a rocky sandstone mountain side. Verdandi entered the cave. All abandoned. Some useless supplies still around. A lot of empty cargo containers. A ton of rats that had infested the camp probably due to the trash and food left behind. Verdandi pulled her sword and slowly slashed her way through the filthy creatures. One hit was enough to kill them anyway. But eventually, she'd find what she was looking for in a corner. A little, abandoned radio station. Probably originally used by the medics here to coordinate incoming patient transfers. Verdandi sat down on the desk. The medic ward here used to be specifically assigned to the Refugee ward. Verdandi could gather that from the papers on the desk. But she also found intel about a young boy, a refugee, that used to come here to play with the radio. There was a file on him, pictures. Name. Refugee ID. Medical history. After some tinkering with the radio, Verd could get a list of the last frequencies used within. Tuning in her own radio into them one by one. Until she found what she was looking for. An active frequency that shouldn't be.

Verd would have to search further through the cave. Go deeper inside. Finding a multitude of old machinery no longer in use. Multiple of them were twisted from their original purpose, showing off, that the bounty in question was indeed a tinkerer. Verdandi would figure, that finding him and catching him was the hard part. Actually, fighting him wouldn't be all too inconvenient. His power level was obviously not very high. Verd just had to bypass his security somehow. If she would be able to get some more intel on this case. She might be able to get all the information needed to prepare herself well enough that she could bring the actual capture to a rapid conclusion. Verdandi was searching through the machines. Multiple newspapers from suna. Intel reports stolen from the Kiri HQ. Various reports probably picked up from Squad leaders and other intel carriers. He certainly had been busy. A specialist at his job. He wasn't the only one trying to do the whole double agent play. But Kiri's troops eventually all snooped them out. The multitude of skilled people in kiri's rooster, especially of ANBU and Hunter nature. Verd still hoped that her request to gain access into those special forces would eventually be honoured with a positive response, but then she'd certainly have to prove herself as a skilled bounty hunter too. Just working on a lot of missions showed effort. But not the required skill necessary to do the jobs requested by special forces.

Verdandi would continue to find various recordings. Notes of the spy. They weren't of really important nature. Verd figured, a skilled guy like himself would have made sure to destroy them if they really held any critical information to themselves. But Verd would clean up a sofa in the cave. Take out one of her sealed blankets from a scroll, toss it over the cushions and drop herself onto it. Plugging in her radio phones into the recording device and starting to play them one by one. It was tedious work for sure. But for Verdandi a little bit of effort was totally worth it. The spy's voice was soft and gentle. It kind of had some sort of an asmr feeling to it. Leaving Verd to tingle in her belly as the boy's whispers would follow her for the next hours. It would have been a lot worse if he was one to scream loudly and angerly into the microphone. Verd would try to filter the nonsense from potential useful intel. About his daily life. Brushing his teeth. His motivations to see the villages gone. His losses. His hardships. His crying and heart aches. His pain of being an oh so poor sunaan boy. A lot of complaining indeed. But nothing Verdandi couldn't deal with or not understand. It was the usual story. But she was kind of disappointed. Having expected a bit of a deeper character twist to the guy. Now she just felt sorry for him and what she would have to do with him.

Verd moved from the cave. Her findings were too specific. She could clearly listen and eavesdrop on the frequency how the person in question was giving away very specific date. Number of guards, location, intended target. Caravan intel that was not allowed to be specified ever over common radio. Verdandi moved to HQ and showed her findings to the superior. Asking for a tech savvy that could help her track down this frequency. One of the techies would provide Verd with a little signal emitter. That could determine if a signal frequency was getting stronger or weaker. It would take quite a few hours of walking around the camp. East. West. South. North. Exploring the various corners available to determine which area had the stronger frequency response. Once she figured that out she'd search the area and do the same. Closing more and more in to the frequency. Getting quite the picture over which ward it must be. Verd shuddered. This guy was basically in the heart of the camp and no one had figured it out just yet. He must have quite the skills at concealing himself. Though he cleverly chose a ward where not too many ANBU would usually cross through. The border camps were pretty huge by now anyway. But just when Verdandi was about to enter a specific tent, she was approached by two figures. Verd turned around. Glaring back at them. "What do you need?" She'd ask carefully. "Any problems?"

The two of them were armed to the teeth. Mercenaries. Verd didn't like the look of them. Grim teeth crunching glares. She realized to have seen them before. Both at the Intel gathering and while she was roaming through the streets earlier. They must have caught her getting on with the bounty quest. Now that she was at her final destination for this they knew it was time for them to intervene and take over. The both of them grinning as they lifted their weapons. Verdandi played along. Lifting her hands as they poked her to slowly go into a nearby, empty tent. She chuckled to herself already. Once inside they proclaimed that she 'served them well' finding the spy's location and would now 'be so kind to vanish' towards Verdandi turned around and cut her blade in her most lucid possible speed into the first merc's throat. As he tripped backwards, gripped his throat and started to bleed to death, his surprised buddy gasped and shoved his blade forward to pierce into Verdandi's guts. Verd would use her massively superior reflexes to step aside and let the guy pass her before smacking him in the neck with a palm just where it hurts. Tossing him a bit forward and slicing her blade down over his back to leave him with a beautiful wide-open bleeding wound. As he yelped and made suggesting motions that he wished to flee. Verdandi moved in to intercept those motions. Cutting into his ankles and kicking him down to his knees.

She'd carefully hold on his scalp while pulling her blade past his throat after he kneeled. Pulling on his hair to make sure the wound properly opened. She didn't have much mercy for supposed killers like them. Slowly leaving the tent and moving to the next Medic Officer to tip him off. Verdandi then realized that she was right in the middle of the area where her target was supposed to be hiding. Verd would slip in a few tents. Most of the Kiri-nin not really minding her snooping around considering she was wearing her forehead protector over her face. She had to scavenge through multiple rooms to finally find the one the spy had been hiding and broadcasting in just minutes ago. The spy had just been here minutes ago. The frequency she was tuned into was still active before she encountered the wannabe hunters. Verdandi glared down the area. She lost her chance for today. But she was closer then ever. Closer than anyone else. As fate would have it. Aya informed Verd that another Bounty Hunter, a ninja of profile was supposed to catch up with her and help her put this all but to an ending. Verdandi shrugged. Pouting a bit as she was confident that she could have done this one all but alone. But she shrugged it off. Verd expected him to return to this area soon. Now all she had to do was scout it for a few days and catch the broadcaster.

It wouldn't take all too long and also thanks to Verdandi's beautiful ability to see through walls with her Sharingan to actually scout the guy out after a continuous return to the surroundings. Verdandi had the frequency but now needed the code for what the spy was actually talking on the radio. Of course, his coded language was there so only the sunaan forces would be able to decipher it. But Verdandi had a lot of advantages that were missing for others trying to crack the code. First, she had been at Operation Javelin. Having captured the first spy and hence seen, read and understood the manifest of his own coded language. Verdandi was sure that this spy couldn't operate all too different from it either. Nodding to herself she'd start to compare the notes from the javelin spy with the papers she found at the cave. With the intel she wrote down from the audio logs she went through and eventual intel that was already available on the guy. The first thing that actually cracked most of it. Was that Verdandi started to understand that the codes mostly just indicated letters that would later form the actual sentence. Then the algorithm was based on a keyword. The spy's real name. A name that she had heard within the audio logs. Something that probably only Verdandi and no one else wold know at this point. Kite. She used the algorithm together with the keyword and within a mere number of hours Verdandi had cracked the code.

Now she quickly had to forward this intel to mission HQ. Giving them the decoder string so they could immediately start to retrace recorded messages and decipher them. For most of the intel that he had leaked, help would come too late. Many of these actions had been already carried out weeks ago. But it would start to make sense and explain a lot of lose ends that were unclear as to how they could have come to pass. Kite's threat to the Kiri camp become way clearer now. Verdandi would also hence forth spend the next days resting in her tent and listening secretly to Kite's radio. Instantly deciphering his messages and using the quickly gained intel as an advantage so the Kiri administration could foil some of these plans and actually lure some suna bandits into a double-sided trap. Verdandi knew Kite would eventually figure out that he was being chased down or lurked on. That someone cracked the code. She knew he would disappear again soon. It would be a bit of a gamble to figure out the perfect timing to attack and oppose him. But as long as her spying on the spy could prove to be of some use for the Kiri operation Verdandi would spend day and night collecting information, deciphering it and forwarding it directly to the Mission HQ. Leaving it up to them to deal with the info's and do something about it to protect the people in need.
