C-Rank

Entered from the North and South, this dusty arena is beset by howling, gale force winds from the East to West. Contestants in this arena running in the same direction of the wind have their speed increased by 10m/s, while those moving against the current will have their movement speed decreased by 10m/s. This effect is conferred to projectiles and jutsu speeds alike. However, these winds are not natural, and instead generated by jutsu used by proctors instructed to change the direction of the gust: each posting round, the direction of the wind reverses (East to West, then West to East, then East to West again, etc)

POSTING ORDER
1 - Sakamoto
2 - Akiyama

24 HOUR POST TIMER BEGINS FOR SAKAMOTO 24 HOURS AFTER THIS POST

'Round Two‘

Walking along the aromatic glade was nice for the small feline, closing his eyes he was able to feel the soft breeze as he entered the arena from the north, looking along the plains that seemed to be peppered with flowers. To any other feline in any other scenario, this place would have come with a lasting image of serenity and peace. However, this was no gentle glade Sakamoto was able to parade himself across in merriment, it was the next battle zone for the exams. A hellscape that was to be transformed into yet another dynamic battlefield as north would to battle against south while blustering winds would cascade across the battlefield threatening to sweep anything that crossed them off their feet and carry them away with the force. Sakamoto was ready, though he didn't know who his opponent was going to be... or how long it would take for them to get here. One thing however was for certain... this match wasn't going to be like the last one...

Without the cover of the long grass he had, had before, his opponent would see him immediately, so, Sakamoto did the only thing a clever cat like him would do in this scenario. Look uninterested in everything going around them, having removed his crimson neck scarf before he entered beginning to walk around the outside of the arena to the east, coyly pouncing from flower to flower in the glade and swatting at whatever flying insects were to come his way before they were caught in the winds that were to come. Each pounce that he made about 2m away from one another would land another pawprint seal on the ground, making about 9 in total in a 3x3 square formation before the battle would begin. Assuming that his opponent had not been a witness to his prior match, he would have no reason to have a single clue that his opponent was a black house cat, though it could stand to reason that Sakamoto could be a ninja pet of some kind... suspicion was valid for sure.

Sure enough his opponent would enter the arena, no more than a couple of moments after Sakamoto, who, would be surely lacking in the humanity department from the beginning, probably sewing some confusion... But no sooner than they had been announced, the winds of the arena would begin, the chakra flowing through the air would be thick as Sakamoto would let out a horrified row. Calling out in distress as he would clutch at the arena with his claws attempting to hold to the ground. To the audience, the sound would be terrifying, the wind was strong enough to halt a human's progression on the battle arena, slowing all but skilled special jounin to a crawl at even sprinting speeds should they attempt to fight against the wind. Leaving poor Sakamoto no chance against it. The wind was terrifying, and he seemed to be slipping. thrown backwards 2m before clutching on the stone that just so happened to have the center most paw-print seal upon it.

'And there lay his plan.'

Sakamoto banked on the animal friendly and caring nature of the opposing ninja as the battle started. It wasn't within the bounds of reason that a cat had managed to find its way into the middle of this isolated arena across the countryside of Konohagakure. And in doing so, became buffeted and assaulted by the terrifying arena that had been setup for the ninja. Any sane Konohagakure ninja would be compelled to rush to the poor creature's aid as it cried out in distress, body shaking against the cold wind eyes open and fearful looking to and fro frantically as it attempted to get a hold of any form of terrain it was capable of grabbing with its claws. But in these gale force winds, there wasn't a heck of a lot that it seemed to be able to do other than hold on for dear life... In another life, had he not chosen to be a ninja, Saka could have likely been an animal actor, he knew what cats sounded like when they were desperate, afraid and pathetic... he'd lived a lot of his first life being something similar until he'd determined his course in life.

And so the second round of the Chunin exams would begin, not with a righteous cry of battle, not with a furious look in ones eye and determination. But a question of moral integrity... Was the opposing ninja so heartless, that, even with the threat of another ninja, potentially lingering in the shadows... would they risk themselves to save a feline that seemed to be at risk from the arena itself? Could this be part of the test the proctors were intending to survey? Was it a trap waiting to be sprung? Answers wouldn't be immediately apparent to the ninja who entered the arena to face off against the Ninneko as he continued to bleat his terrified cries against the boisterous wind...

The light crunch of grass and flowers beneath the footfalls of Akiyama was odd to him. Having grown up on the islands within the Land of Water it was more common for ones foot to sink into mud with every step. It was a wet and humid place, nothing like the dry, temperate climate of the place he found himself in now. Honestly, it was a pleasant change, for in the little time he had been here it seemed more peaceful as well. The citizens always smiled, the sun was always shining, no wonder the shinobi from Konoha were so soft. The last opponent Akiyama was meant to face didn't even bother to show his face in the arena, a very disappointing showing for the nation who was hosting the exam. Entering the arena, Akiyama hoped his next opponent would prove to be different.

Staring off towards the northern end of the arena Akiyama could see no enemy. In fact, the only thing he could see was a cat, slowly striding along the edge of the arena without a care. It was odd to say the least, though Akiyama could only make assumptions as to why the cat was there. Perhaps his opponent held the ability to transform himself into the feline, or perhaps it was simply their pet. Regardless, there was only one reason another living thing would be in this arena, to fight.

Moving north and to the west with a relaxed strut he held his hands firmly within the pockets of his long blue jacket. To Akiyama, revealing anything about himself beyond his attire and visible equipment would be a mistake. For this reason he decided to take the long and more cautious approach. The sword that was strapped firmly to his left hip swayed gently from side to side as he advanced, moving to close the gap between himself and the cat. Positioning himself on the opposite side of the circular movement the cat had made, Akiyama would seemingly mirror its pace, though keeping a twenty meter gap between the two.

That was until suddenly a gust of wind struck him with an unnatural force, nearly throwing him off balance before he could hunker down in a low squat. Leaning into the maelstrom that came from the east Akiyama would watch as the small animal clung to a nearby stone, seemingly unable to combat the harsh winds. The bandages that covered his face wrinkled slightly, indicating a smile beneath. Akiyama found it amusing, the distraught nature of the little kitty that had likely been brought to the battlefield with its master. Reaching into a small pouch fastened to his lower back with his right hand Akiyama would dig around for a moment, as if trying to find something he had lost.

Whipping his arm forward with as much strength as he could muster to fight the winds Akiyama would reveal what he had been searching for. A single shuriken would fly forwards, battling the winds at 5m/s with the intent of striking the cat that seemed unable to defend itself. If it were his opponent transformed, they would be forced to defend against the attack. If it were the pet of the shinobi, either it would be forced to do the same or be rescued by its owner. If by some chance it were simply a stray cat that had found its way into the arena by chance, it was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, something Akiyama couldn't help. Regardless, this move would either reveal his opponent, or remove a possible distraction from the field of battle. This, was the only thing Akiyama was concerned with.

'Of all the!?‘

Sakamoto hadn't expected to be up against somebody so callous, against many other opponents he was certain that this kind of rouse would have worked, though as his opponent flung the shuriken, curving it expertly into the wind in such a manner that it would boomerang for Sakamoto's form clinging against the stone that held his position, the wind would change. His form would flip and the Shuriken would ricochet off the granite with s flurry of sparks engulfed by the air and carried on the winds. Coming to a standing position the feline would look guarded, angling up his opponent while keeping low to the ground to better avoid the resistance. It would take little more than a flick of Saka's tail to slip it through the hole in the center of the throwing star, claiming the piece of ammunition as his own for now. The amber-gold eyes of the panthera blazing brightly as he would give the ninja across from him a glare that could turn even the sternest ninja to stone. It wasn't that he'd seen through the ruse that seemed to put Sakamoto on edge, it was that there was no hesitation. This opponent, this ninja who wore a Kirigakure headband, he wasn't like the Konoha ninja he'd faught in the last round.

'he was a killer.'

"I hope you know what kind of game you're playing, Kiri ninja..." Sakamoto would speak calmly, expecting to be cut off at a moments notice as he would deliver his warning. The cat would speak in an almost mismatched, deep and monotonous tone. His voice was smooth and foreboding like that of a surly adult male. And after having said it, or should his opponent take action in the midst of his sentence, the Konohagakure ninneko would spring into action. Leaping forward with a quick sommersault, Sakamoto would hurl the shuriken curled on his tail at lightning speeds towards the center chest of his opponent before clapping a hand-seal between his opposable paws. Channeling chakra through his form as he would almost perform a perfect springboard dive, thrusting himself into the earth and burrowing under. This arena had a single purpose, and that was to give an advantage to those who were upwind and a disadvantage to those who were down... the easiest way to fight this fight was to circumvent that mechanic entirely and keep to the underground as a doton user.

Once Sakamoto was under the ground, he would charge to the left, not wanting to be in the same position he once was, clearing at least 7m before he made his next move, clapping his paws together and flowing chakra through his connection with the earth, feeling the pressure on the ground around him as their positions would resonate within his mind, he didn't have perfect locations, and as he saw through the earthen floor of the arena, the wind was creating uneven pressure across the entire battlefield Though, a standing, walking or running ninja amongst it would stand out like a sore thumb. Reaching out with his newly acquired sixth sense, he would use the phantom paw: earth technique to place three seals in a triangle pattern upon the earth surrounding his opponent, about three meters away in each direction, or at least where he could sense his pressure before charging headfirst towards him under the earth.

Should the feline reach his target, poking his head up to grab his bandanna on the way and looping it around his neck, he would leap upwards and out of the earth. Kunai slipped from his bandannas folds and gripped in Sakamoto's mouth while three Shuriken had been hooped around the end of his tail as a sort of make-shift flail. Jumping only high enough with the intent of drawing his claws and slashing for the outside of his knee to push past him, turn and face him down, finally revealing himself to either be an elite pet easily on par if not stronger than most Genin, or, more radically, his opponent. Sakamoto was ready for the fight that was to come, and he wasn't afraid to get a little bit of blood on his paws against the monster he faced.

The way in which the small feline moved in avoidance of Akiyama's shuriken was all he needed to receive an answer to the question his attack sent. This was no ordinary, highly unlucky cat that had simply found its way into the arena. This was, at a bare minimum, a trained pet of some sort. However, as it spoke, this young, dapper little kitty seemed to be more and more human to Akiyama. Speaking animals, to Akiyama's knowledge were not common in the slightest. It was this fact, that in his mind, solidified this persons place as a shinobi. Though more than likely it was simply one that had a weird obsession with the likely dozens of felines they kept at home.

Watching the movements of Sakamoto closes the choreographed movement of his tail slinging his shuriken back at its original owner was child's play to follow. This was a deliberate faint more than likely, or the useless attack of an inexperienced genin. Akiyama assumed the former. With a simple fluid movement to the left and a subtle shift in stance Akiyama would side step the shuriken. The change in the direction of the wind surely forced Akiyama to react more quickly, but at a distance of twenty meters, avoidance was almost assured against anything.

In the short moment after the shuriken was released Akiyama's perceived opponent had slipped into the earth itself. It was a technique that was unfamiliar to Akiyama, but also one he could handle with casual ease. Focusing chakra into the soles of his feet he began flowing it into the very dirt he stood on. Still bracing himself against the winds that lashed against him he could feel each and every movement within and atop the ground, even the delicate wiggling of insects within the soil around him. There was no purpose beyond escaping the wind to the actions of the cat, whether it understood that or not. Its lack of visible perception on Akiyama more of a burden than an aid.

Feeling the feline charging towards him within the earth Akiyama would slowly move his right hand across his body, gripping the hilt of his blade while he left hand firmly held onto its scabbard. Without so much as a shift in his weight Akiyama would turn his head, following the linear movement of his enemy. Waiting for the moment just before Sakamoto would breach the ground, Akiyama would suddenly erupt into a shroud of electrical jolts that encompassed his form. The loud snaps of raiton energy could be heard as the shroud quickly grew in strength around his right arm, sending powerful waves of chakra through his sword.

Aiming for the moment Sakamoto began to emerge from the earth Akiyama would not give the cat a chance to perform any other techniques. Using the same chakra he had leaked into the dirt to follow the cats movements he now propelled himself forward at astounding speed. Simultaneously he used the stimulated muscles within his body to instantly begin movement above his bodies optimum capacity. At a pace of 23m/s Akiyama would leap forward in a single bound to intercept Sakamoto in the middle of the air.

Unsheathing his blade in one fluid motion the raiton energy coated the blade, extending out from the steel to form what seemed to be an extremely sharp blade with the added capacity of intense burns. Aiming for the mid-section of the cat Akiyama knew there were plenty of medical staff on stand by for the match and that despite how severe injuries may get, all participants were safe. Seeing the currently armed state of the animal however and the direction it seemed to be intent to move in Akiyama would flow his chakra also into his leg, protecting it from the claws of the cat with a skin that now resembled stone that could be seen as the claws ripped through the pants Akiyama wore, if the cat were to continue its attack.

Sakamoto

Sakamoto

'It was amazing how quickly things can end.‘

Sakamoto burrowed through the earth like a mole, and as the splendid feline did so he had all of his attention transfixed on the battle ahead and the position of his opponent, waiting for it to alter or change in a moments notice. This man was a different kind of person, a special kind of killer, one who didn't think twice about the morality of ending a life. Sakamoto had met a couple like that in his past life, though he didn't expect to come across one representing a rival nation in the Chunin exams. It was sudden, coming in like a wave, but energy began to flow through the world, the pressure on the earth shifting in preparation as Sakamoto came closer to his point of exit began to tense... his opponent was had turned to face him, he could sense his gait pointing in the same direction and the pressure of his feet was at the forefront poised to strike like a viper. There was no doubt that the enemy was aware of his position..

Now Sakamoto had to emerge from the ground without the advantage of anonymity. This was bad... there were a couple of techniques that he was capable of using from the underground to attack the surface, though if he stayed under the earth much longer air would be quickly becoming a problem. A fact that ruled out a lot of them in the mean time. So, Sakamoto needed a plan to exfiltrate, and attack simultaneously... that he could do. Not slowing himself, but in the last few moments Saka would take in a deep breath, Three more paw-print seals would appear around the ground that he was going to exit from in a 3m triangle from one another, simply appearing as if the paws of a ghostly cat would hide them among the brush, hardly visible with the wind blowing the aromatic plains so hard. With the last of the wind that surrounded Sakamoto he would create a barrier around himself. He had to assume that his opponent had prepared a jutsu of some kind...

'Into the breach.'

No sooner than Sakamoto's head popped out of the ground, his opponent would charge, blade at the ready but he had a couple of meters to travel. Sakamoto would let out a blast of wind directly for the swordsmans' chest on an upward angle. The 15m/s projectile combined with his opponent's speed of over 20m/s would lead to a collision force at almost 40 within such a close range. Kicking off the ground with force Sakamoto would allow himself to be swept away from his opponent with the wind, firing a second and third blast of wind back towards his opponent, aiming slightly to the left and right about 1/2 a meter apart in an attempt to trap him further. Should the blast hit, at the ninja's speed it would be like coming into contact with a train as his momentum would be completely halted, only to be lifted 1/2 a meter into the air in a levitating vortex which would seek to draw him towards its center constantly, no longer affording him the leverage that his speed techniques would allow him to be effective. Even with his barrier formed around him. A cunning trick for a cunning cat.

Having landed or not, Sakamoto would whip his claws at the air before him, creating two waves of cutting force with the intention of striking a deep lacerating 'x' pattern across the chest of his opponent, not knowing the defensive technique that the enemy had employed at the time. Not that it would have mattered, the strength of the fuuton technique which caused the bubble that collided with it would have been enough to rip through its defenses by proxy as it came into contact with it. Sure, his opponent wouldn't be hurt by the blast, but it would open him up to the lacerating potential of his secondary attack.

Finally, if Sakamoto had caught him in even one of the bubbles, and gotten this far, it was time for his finale. Summing up a force of chakra, his eyes would harden. The initial vortex would then intensify, crushing force applying to the enemy ninja's entire body from every possible angle. The coup de graces would come down on him like the hammer of god. The art of converting one technique into another and allowing them to flow freely was a devastating art. It wouldn't take a genius in Sakamoto to come to the conclusion however that the enemy that was before him was dangerous... he didn't for a moment deserve his sympathy or mercy...

The reaction of the feline was, at best, preconceived, and at worst, a hastily formed response that managed to catch Akiyama with his pants down. Launching himself head first into the orb of wind that exited the mouth of the Konoha Kitten Akiyama would release a soft grunt. His body coming to a complete stop with a strong sting in his chest he knew he had missed his opportunity. This thought was only further exaggerated when he quickly began losing his footing, his body being removed from the ground. With the cat speeding off through the air following the shift in the wind Akiyama would grimace beneath his bandages. As to be expected from a cat, he was fast, and cunning at the least.

Still gripping the hilt of his blade however Akiyama would quickly focus his chakra into his torso, hardening it to the point of iron or beyond. The technique was a simple one, but effective when Sakamoto sent his arcs of wind through the air in an attempt to cut into Akiyama. Shredding the black vest that he wore Akiyama's bear chest would be revealed through the tattered fabric. It was a dark brown color, earthy and dense in appearance, and unscathed by the slicing power of the second attack Sakamoto had sent his way. Having already dissipated the strong raiton around his right arm, Akiyama would unsheathe the blade, throwing it to the west with the increased speed that the chakra infused wind of the arena was constantly assaulted by.

Sinking deep within the soil of the lush grassland, a single, light blue string could be seen within the distorting winds of Sakamoto's initial jutsu. Still held aloft the string ran from the tip of Akiyama's middle finger to the pommel of his blade, a clear anchor for his escape. Pulling on the string with all his might, yanking him from the confines of the vortex of fuuton that had entrapped him Akiyama would tumble towards the dirt. Extending a single hand Akiyama would catch himself, springing back to his feet in a quick somersault. Glancing back in the direction of the vortex he had only narrowly escaped he saw it. The crushing force of the winds intensified exponentially, almost collapsing inwards like an imploding star. The force was monumental, something Akiyama could feel, even outside of its confines. That vortex was a coffin, one he had only avoided by the slimmest of margins, one that would have sent him to the losers bracket.

Smirking beneath his bandages as they ruffled from the distortion of his regular, more bored expression. Akiyama would refocus his attention entirely on his opponent. "You're no regular house cat are you? You're a real shinobi." The chuckle that escaped his lips was less condescending than one might initially think. Instead, it held an awkward weight to it, almost like a nervous acknowledgement of how much he had been underestimating his opponent. After all, to Akiyama, up to this point, there was a chance he was simply fighting his true enemies pet, or possibly some weird kid who liked cats too much. Now however, Akiyama knew that in fact his opponent was what he least expected, a cat who was in truth, a shinobi. No trick, no pet, just a cat, who could talk.

Pulling on the string that seemed glued to his finger, Akiyama would reel in his sword, grasping it firmly within his right hand. The thought that he had been fighting his true opponent in such a lax manner was daunting to him. The amount of opportunities the cat had while he was simply throwing shuriken and rush at him head first was immense. For all he knew, there were dominoes set in place that he had no comprehension of, ones that would lead to his loss. It was from this point, with a serious gaze cast upon Sakamoto that could stop a charging bull that Akiyama would begin to treat his opponent as the worthy threat that he was.

Genin
'He gets it...‘

Sakamoto became oddly glad at the look in the eye of his opponent, watching as he would make his escape and moving should that blade have been moving in his direction, though it changed shortly afterwards once again, leaving Sakamoto staring downwind. He had been underestimated his entire time that he had been here in konoha, so much so he had effortlessly defeated an opponent in feigning to be a stray cat in a training spar with the other genin. But this was something more, this respect that he felt from the serial killer like opponent, it was familiar, not to dissimilar from himself and only now had he realized it. was he really so bad? Sakamoto could not help but think to himself... no, this ninja, whoever they were, was too young to have been as far down the trail as Sakamoto had been. Saka had betrayed his country, left the village of cats with a rag tag group of rebels and become bandits in the land of sand. Pillaging everything that they had come into contact with using their light training as ninja and fighters to lord themselves over those lesser than them. This kid wasn't as far down the road as he was, but, there was the buddings of something dark there, and Sakamoto could see it clearly being in the position he was no, so long divorced from that life that he was beginning to see the contrast reflected in where he was now, and where this kid was.

Though it was far from fully formed, surrounded by the people in this nation Sakamoto was 'beginning' to form something that could be called a conscience. With the look of respect that this ninja had given him, in acknowledging him, seeing through the charade of his form and for the warrior that Saka really was. Although darkness spread from him, creeping outwards in its infancy... Sakamoto would perhaps try to spare him the path he was walking on... though the thought of doing so caught in the cat's throat. The pride of appearing vulnerable in aiding another was still not something that the ninneko was able to grasp, and likely would not be able to for some time. The fact of the matter was, that, as the ninja before him was talking, Sakamoto was planning his next move. Standing and staring down his opponent, Saka could see the seriousness of the glare that was in his eyes. But... the ninja had stayed still for too long. This fight was over.

With a nod, and a half paw-seal the Pawprint seal at the feet of the ninja who had attacked would begin to resonate. Entirely on center, of the three seals that Sakamoto had the ability to place around his point of exit as his opponent had raced forward to meet him had ended up within a hairs breath of his person as he had his eyes so focused on Sakamoto and nothing but him... It was perfect distraction tactics, an exchanged glare, a stare down then suddenly action as Sakamoto would perform a single hand-seal. The pawprint seal on the ground below him would activate, while another two would appear on the ground in front of Sakamoto with the phantom wind of the doton technique that he continued to maintain. Without hesitation, the ground beneath the ninja before him would explode into a forest of doton spikes without so much as a warning save for the briefest of moments where the seal had activated. Sakamoto was aiming for the ninja's feet, that much was certain... he had caught a glimpse of his speed for a moment, and he wasn't about to let that occur again!

The spikes would detonate in every direction in a 5m radii from the point of the seal, not in an expanse of one at a time, but all at once like a punji pit suddenly tearing itself out of the ground in 2m high thorns in jagged angles which would hope to puncture the ninja in all angles if it were able to. Through his feet, gashes across his thighs, his sides, arms and torso would be the easiest locations for the jutsu to puncture. The hesitation from having his feet punctured, would hopefully carry the technique to successfully penetrating the rest of his body and holding him in place for what came next. Should it hit, it would leave the Water country ninja in a horrific mess, tangled in them like a crucifixion gone terribly terribly wrong... or perhaps oddly right. Not wanting to let up, Sakamoto would spin with his tail, launching his Kunai in the planned gaps in the spikes, weaving through the holes at shoulder height with a whip of his tail before following it up with a swipe of his fuuton aura for the ninja's neck. Against an opponent like Sakamoto, keeping mobile was almost necessary, staring him down in respect was not...

To the untrained eye, or even to his opponent should he still be unaware, it would look as though Sakamoto either had complete dominion over the earth itself, or it was more like he knew exactly where his opponent was going to move before he did so. Getting into his opponent's head was what he hoped, and so soon from having the clarity to take the feline seriously too.

"I appreciate the acknowledgement Mist ninja, but i sense a deep seriousness within you, something dark. Beware it. That darkness will take you down a part where the light of hope cannot shine..." Sakamoto would speak, adding in only the warning should the match had seemingly come to its conclusion. Either way, it seemed that the time limit for the end of the round was drawing to a close, if this technique did not end the combat... the final clash was nearing closer by the moment, and would likely culminate with the following exchange.

The sudden movement, the forming of a handseal, the resonance it achieved with the seals upon the ground Akiyama had failed to notice. They were small, buried within the thick, lush grass of the field, and due to this, nearly invisible. The slight glimmer of their activation being the only sign to their existence at all. "Shit" was all Akiyama could mutter, the aura of lightning around his body suddenly focusing once more upon his right arm that wielded his prized weapon. As the earth itself distorted and elongated into thin tendrils Akiyama would feel a sharp pain within the bottoms of both his feet. He had been struck by the initiation of a technique he didn't fully understand with little time to react. However, this pain did not leave him either unable or unwilling to continue defending himself. Pain was within the nature of the Momochi clan, and surviving injury was almost second nature with an ease unheard of in any other clan.

The raiton aura that coalesced around his right arm would extend outwards, encompassing the hilt and blade of his sword in one powerful sheathe. Swinging in a wide arc in front of him and to his side at a highly exaggerated pace Akiyama would release his sword from his hand. The same string of chakra that had been attached to his middle finger before elongated once more, keeping the weapon firmly within the control of Akiyama. Continuing in a rotation around Akiyama's body the raiton charged blade would continue in a 360 degree spin around his form, shredding the earthen spikes as they shot forth to impale him, cutting them short of their intended targets.

This cat may have had fuuton, the element with which he could counter the raiton based techniques of Akiyama with ease. But doton, this was merely child's play in the face of Akiyama's extensive raiton reserves. As the blade reached Akiyama's front once more he would send the sword hurling through the air like a dart at 30m/s. Its raiton aura still burning strong during its flight its sole intention was to deflect the kunai that now aimed to pierce Akiyama's flesh. Knowing that the sword would simply continue past the kunai after knocking it from the air. Performing a simple boar handseal the blade would erupt in a violent torrent of electrical energy in a wide 5m radius explosion of force at 50m/s. The intent of the jutsu was simple, to catch Sakamoto off guard with an overwhelmingly fast and violent counter to his spikes while he moved forward in conjunction with his jutsu.

'Desperation.‘

Sakamoto's attack speared through the ninja's leg, penetrating his sides with the direct hit but the movements of the ninja had allowed him to spare his arms. Chakra was brimming as the counter-attack had begun. Sakamoto's eyes would widen for a moment, the pain threshold of this ninja was staggering. He didn't yelp, he didn't scream, he didn't beg for Sakamoto to end the match, no, instead he readies his blade, charging it with lively chakra and prepared to hurl it at the feline. But the damage that had been dealt was not in question, having taken the blow to the feet and lower legs, though they were short of the target of his arms, they could very well have climbed high enough to reach his knees with the blow with penetrating strikes deep enough to reach his bones making his legs functionally useless. The spikes were coming out in odd angles too, he would have to aim down far enough to hit the ones closest to him or out enough to hit the ones a meter away angling towards his upper body... a single swing could hardly deal with both unless he lowered his stance... and then he'd be moving directly into their path in a potentially lethal collision... But he had averted the worst of it, saving his upper body trapped in a wreath of earthen spikes that hadn't made it quite within blade reach... at the cost of his lower and hurling his blade toward the jet black ninneko.

Thoughts plethora ran through Sakamoto's mind, but he'd had a method for dealing with that sword the moment he had seen it to begin with. The catalyst for many Bukijutsu user's was their weapon, other fighters needed their catalysts in order to perform their techniques, the Ronin ninja who had attacked Sakamoto and his gang had needed his sword too. He was a powerful Tokujonin who had mastered the art of swordsmanship, enough to have claimed one of Sakamoto's lives with a shard of his shattered blade. Sakamoto promised that he would never be struck with a sword like that again. As the chakra empowered blade soared through the air, Saka couldn't see the sword before him, it was a shard. The place they were in, wasn't the arena in the Chunin exams in the heart of Konohagakure no Sato. It was a blasted and desecrated bandit camp in the middle of a desert far from any form of rational civilization. But this time, rather than staring deeply into the abyss as the shimmering blade came towards him, Sakamoto would place a half hand-seal, and at one of the three seals he had placed on the ground near his opponent, he had activated only one. It began to shine as he would launch the blade from his hand in a long arc. A sound-like pulse emanating from the seal would seek to reverberate its chakra with what was about to go soaring through the air... but... what was the target?

There were so many jutsu that Sakamoto could deal with, the defensive technique that was empowering that limb, there was the offensive techniques that crackled around him. There was the jutsu within him that helped him move half as dexterously as he did. So many options, but there was only one option that ended this battle before it really begun. Honestly the panic of the battle and the skill of Sakamoto's opponent had already pushed the thought out of his mind once, made him slip and clouded his judgement with fear. Though now, in a moment of clarity everything became clear. The target that he was aiming for wasn't any of the jutsu at all, it was the weapon itself. "Nekojutsu!" In a flash of light, Sakamoto would intend to target the item that was surrounded in the bukijutsu techniques, leaving them with no target remaining active and forcing them to vanish into the aether in a cloud that would project forward a short wile before ending and washing over Sakamoto's form with the cloud as he too failed to flinch for even a moment.

A lineage of ancestral generals of the cat clans were on the shoulders of Sakamoto. It would take a great mind to win this Chunin exams, not the power of jutsu placed one atop the other like a pyramid standing as an effigy to ones own power. The man was trapped, spiked spines literally at his throat, upon three of which surrounding him three more pawprint seals would materialize, at least one of them would be in plain sight and demonstrating exactly the method the ninneko had been producing the attacks as the wild chakra would scatter to the breeze. Sakamoto's eyes locked on him, bearing down on him with all of the weight of heaven and earth behind them.

"Akiyama Momichi... I accept your surrender."

The electrical shroud that once coated the form of Akiyama slowly faded away, all focus he once had on his reserves of chakra completely gone. The bead of sweat slowly climbing its way down the side of Akiyama's face before soaking into his bandages. With a jaw clenched tight Akiyama released a deep breath from his nose, the pain in his eyes clear but unwilling to let it break him. The spikes in his feet and legs would shift in a subtle manner with each minor movement, even with each breath he took. The rush of combat had initially left him entirely numb to it, but now, it was different.

With the calm of the end of a storm, the realization of just how much damage he had taken quickly washed over him. At his core, Akiyama was still a teenage boy, even if his upbringing and lineage had made him far more comfortable with the hurt that life brought with it. Snickering quietly at the words of the cat, Akiyama couldn't help but find them amusing, the massive amount of confidence in his voice. "I like you" he spoke between two heavy, calming breathes. "I surrender, but I expect a rematch some day, worthy opponents only aid the growth of shinobi after all."

Raising his left hand Akiyama casually waved for the proctors to approach if they wished to aid him. However, before any of them could come close Akiyama would pull on the chakra string that was still attached to the pommel of his sword. This was no malicious attempt to back stab his opponent after giving him victory. No, this was a simple action to catch his sword once again in his right hand, charging it with an intense aura of raiton. With three quick strokes of his blade, Akiyama wrenched his feet free after cutting away the spikes in his legs.

Stumbling forward Akiyama would fall to his knees only a meter or so from his opponent. Sheathing his blade he bowed his head in respect, an odd action for one to take towards an animal. This cat was different however, it held strength, it held an intelligence comparative to most humans, greater he would bet. This cat was more of a shinobi than the vast majority of those Akiyama had met, and even if he played into his own seeming weakness, he deserved to be seen how he truly was. Strong.

'And so victory came... though it was close‘

Sakamoto was happy that his opponent surrendered as per his suggestion, and when asked for a rematch he would give the boy from kirigakure a thoughtful nod. Allowing the seal which held his sword to decay, releasing the blade after he had worded his surrender. Approaching the boy on his knees as he would cleave away the remaining spikes and pant on the ground, Sakamoto would sit before him, curling his tail around his body before truly looking in the eyes of the fighter before him. Was this child truly as psychotic as he had thought? Or was it some passing phase. Truly, it was like looking into a mirror which reflected his younger self... were that mirror to turn him into a human... from another country... with an entirely seperate set of skills... who cou- Sakamoto realized the internal metaphor in play was a little stretched. but the boys demeanor wasn't unfamiliar to the cat. So he felt compelled to share a couple of words before the medics would approach and hope to whisk the boy away.

"You're treading a dangerous path boy, don't let that dark inside you eat you. Every path leads to a point of no return, and the one I think you might be on leads to an early grave in a lonely desert. Find a fork in that road, soon if need be..."

Sakamoto would raise a paw, standing on his hind legs before knocking him on the forehead, an action commonly given to an elder talking to a younger person, getting it through their thick head or so to speak. Before beginning to move away. Though at this close it would be easy to tell, Sakamoto had indeed been wounded by the fight. His black fur was charged with electricity, something, at some point had hit him... but it would have to be a question of what, and when. Moving past the kiri ninja as he was taken to the medical wing or healed on the spot, the feline would move to the locker room with his ninja equipment, being sure to take the bandanna from the ground as he moved. Looking at it he would attempt to think about the man whom had given it to him... would he approve of the actions he had just committed to. Though Sakamoto was barely able to hold eye contact with the kid, he didn't want to see another person in the same conflict that he was in now... so proud, yet constantly criticizing himself for his decisions and personal weaknesses.

The damage was cyclical, he couldn't admit when he was hurt and vulnerable, because it would allow others to know that he was hurt and vulnerable. Although, not allowing anyone to know simply compounded the hurt and vulnerability pushing him even deeper and deeper down a rabbit hole which it looked like there was no escape from. Sakamoto would curse, standing up to move along to the beginning of the next match, as a spark of static left in his fur would leap from himself to one of the steel tables. Something would trigger within the cat, the adrenaline had run out and with that, as the light would temporarily fade from his eyes, he would hit the ground. His muscles in spasm and unable to be controlled as the tired and wounded kitten would curl up. It would take a few minutes for someone to come across him in the locker, snatching him up and running him to medical where a med nin would seek to heal his wounds with chakra, though little of it would be effective until it was performed by one of the senior proctors.

Sakamoto hadn't realized it, but the ninja he had fought had thrown the blade so hard, the chakra that had been radiating from it had bathed sakamoto in its residue. though it wasn't as strong as the techniques focusing on the blade, it was still weaponized chakra which had broken over Sakamoto's body like a radioactive wind. Burning his skin underneath his fur badly, but his adrenaline response seemed to have numbed him from the pain for long enough that he was able to operate. Like a crash victim getting up and walking away from an accident only to collapse four miles down the road... Sakamoto then realized just how close this match had been for him, and the strength of these ninja from other nations. He had been so confident, but even with the word of the doctor about how close he was to have been little more than a smouldering ruin... he was honestly nervous about how badly it could have been.

What if he wasn't able to seal the weapon next time? What if it was moving that little bit faster? Sakamoto was so sure he was able to do it, but why? Because it looked good? Because it played into his game? Sakamoto knew the answer to the question, and he found himself looking at his fur for the answer. The boy crossed a black cat and came out unlucky. It wasn't the strangest thing he'd heard. Black cats had been known to be walking harbingers of bad luck to those around them, but they were all just stories told by mothers to their litters to keep them out of trouble and to stay nice to people. sakamoto knew that he would not likely get that lucky again. He'd give a nod to the doctor and promise that he would be more careful from now on, huffing a little, and happy at his decision, Sakamoto would spend some time in deep introspection until the next match. He had to be ready...

[exit, sakamoto wins.
