After all that time slaving away on smithing missions, it looked like she had developed a reputation for her helpfulness… even if she did hate crafting most of the time because of her abusive boss that she always got assigned to. She was well aware that she had room to improve and had been on edge to please the missions office now more than ever now that she had been set on the path of becoming a cchuunin. Her first step on her road to perfection was to meet other smiths. She had performed many repairs by now, but that did not mean that she was anywhere near the level of a great smith. It just meant that she had potential and obviously the blessing of the people she worked with. That alone was enough for her to draw the attention of smiths who had spent their entire lives working on their crafts.

On this day Hina met with two brothers. They were traveling crafters and they had taken as much an interest in her as she had in them. They had agreed to meet and try to get to know each other. Hina had been waiting at the agreed spot for only five minutes when the two brothers came into view. One of them ne was named Bow and the other was named Wow. The brothers were very different in appearance. Bow in his white and black suit, a bit rough and slack in the looks, sided by Wow in a beautiful white robes. Wow walked strait over to Hina, taking her hand and shaking it firmly, Hina answered in kind, a smile on her face. Just from feeling each others grip they could tell that each had plenty of practice at the forge.

“Nice to meet you,” Hina said, voice firm and stern. She wanted to appear like she was worth their time. She knew that they had been working on some project and she guessed that they would want to show it to her. She would think that maybe they would want her approval which would have been a first. She had continued to work on her craftsmanship but as of yet her name still was not known past her neighborhood. She needed to meet important people if she was ever going to get known.

Then she noticed. A note was pressed into her palm as they shook hands. Her eyes shimmered the text, she didn’t even have to raise the hand to read it. "Don't say a word and follow me. " It was surprising. Hina had no idea what such a message was supposed to mean. But if that was what Bow wished then she would comply. Without a word Hina looked Bow in the eyes, signaling that she had understood, the paper was curled within her hand as she closed it.

It was mostly silence as they walked, the sound of their feet hitting the dirt could only be heard as they trekked along to their destination. "There was a reason why we had decided to invite you with us today Hina," Bow spoke, speaking the girl’s name for the first time. "To be honest, we should have contacted you a lot sooner. We need to keep this meeting a secret though. We don’t want anyone else seeing it yet.”

"We are traveling through and would like your input on a project of ours.” Bow pulled his hair a bit to give his eyes better view of the stars. "Not many shinobi choose to invest time into the crafts? It doesn't take a smart person to know that also means you've the potential to lead the world to greatness.” Wow patted Hina on the back and pointed out in front of him. Hina wondered now more than ever where they could possibly be going to.

"We're here." They had been walking for several hours at this point and Hina was way past the point of being tired. She was surprised that she even had the patience to walk this far and only made it this far by thinking about the potential treasure that she was going to see.

Bow stopped at the edge of a large cave, still not looking at the two. "That is why we need you, Hina." Wow walked right next to his brother, squatting down to peer into the giant cave. “We have created a sculpture the likes you’ve probably never seen, but we need your final touch.” Hina was pretty interested in getting her name out there, but she didn’t know if she could get the men what they were looking for.

Wow outstretched his arm out, welcoming the other two inside. He went around lighting candles and lanterns and finally Hina was able to see the masterpiece they spoke of. It was a beautiful statue that she was drawn to like a moth to a flame. She didn’t even know if she had the right to touch it, that’s how beautiful it looked in her eyes. It was a statue of a man, holding two suns on his back, much like a statue of atlas might look except with suns instead of the earth. It was about twice the size of Hina and she would think about how they even got it in here. She looked around and saw that there was a large wagon with many restraints on it which would probably be the answer to her question.

Bow and Wow started blabbing on about how they created such a masterpiece but stopped short when they saw Hina’s blank expression. “Sorry, we didn’t mean to lecture you on the obvious. Please give us your thoughts.” It was now clear that these men thought Hina was some kind of god of crafting when this was not the case. Maybe they didn’t know that she was really just a low level mission taker. A genin and nothing more. Still, she could try.

Hina stood there for several minutes taking in the wonder and thinking about what she could add to it. She broke the silence eventually with a, “you’re welcome to stay but this will take much time. I would hate to have you sit here for such a long time.” “Oh, no we would love to stay with you and learn your genius. Really, we shall respect your work as we respect our own.” She was being called a genius now? This couldn’t be good.

Being told this was enough for Hina to start working. She would inspect every part of the statue, looking for anything to complain about. Every small depression that didn’t look natural would be noted as she worked her way around the incredible work of art. All the while she thought how she could make this statue truly perfect. She knew that pointing out small defects was not what the men were looking for. They wanted a piece of what made her earn her hammer mark. For hours they would inspect the statue and for hours Hina would remain completely silent. Sweat was figuratively dripping from her face as she worked tirelessly to picture some kind of improvement. After having walked for hours it was no wonder that Hina was having difficulty concentrating.

Hina even resorted to meditating to focus her thoughts. She sat quietly and tried to ignore her body’s demands for rest and tried to find peace in her mind’s idle creativity. In the end, Hina could not think of anything she could do to critique the build quality of the statue. How could she give advice to these men who had a lifetime of experience between them? She would think “that’s it!” and suddenly a vision would pop into her mind that made her mouth water.

“I have an idea for you. What if,” she said, grabbing the blank pieces of paper that had been laid out for her, “we add the moons to the balance.” The men looked confused at her words but they let Hina continue. “You have a brilliant piece here and I cannot find anything substantial to give to the fine craftsmanship that you two showed me. But it lacks balance. What I see here is a man shouldering the suns, but where is his hope? I suggest adding the moons to show that they are on the man’s side to help him. After all the god of the sun and moons are at odds are they not?”

The men’s jaws both dropped as they too pictured what Hina was describing. She drew a picture for clarification with crude figures, but that wasn’t even needed at this point. “But can we do it,” Bow and Wow both said almost in unison, “we must,” they said, also in unison. They gave Hina praise for her good idea and kept asking if she had any others, but Hina wouldn’t even think about other ideas until this vision was brought to life.

The three would get to work over the next few weeks. There was not much to be said as they worked. The men turned Hina’s vision into reality on paper then once they bickered about the exact design the trio used a local forge to create the moonlike spheres and even had them coated to take on their shades. All it took was a little metalwork to join the moons to the statue and voila the statue was as perfect as Hina could have ever imagined it. No

There was a lot less fighting overall than Hina had expected from two master craftsmen. They knew each other’s styles and were quick to point out each other’s flaws which the other would always work to correct. At first they had wanted Hina to help with the actual metalwork and it didn’t take long for them to realize that Hina was still a novice. Still, they would speak nothing of it. She had given them a vision that would push their statue to the next level so how could they complain? One thing that Hina didn’t like was that they didn’t seem to want to give away their secrets. For the truly intricate portions, they usually waited for Hina to sleep so that they could keep their edge. Hina didn’t mind though, she had never been exposed to such craftsmanship before and simply being around was an honor in her opinion.

The hour soon came where the three would bring it into town. Hundreds gathered for the event where the piece was finally unveiled and Hina’s name was now associated with a masterpiece. She hadn’t done much other than help the men out with labor, but she had worked tirelessly to bring her vision to life to create what she called a perfect statue. The men had intended to parade the statue throughout the world and that’s exactly what they would do. Hina would not accompany them to other cities but she was happy to stand next to the wonderful piece that drew much public attention. She did manage to convince them to seek her out again should they want her advice. Perhaps all that time she spent doing shitty smithing missions hadn’t been a waste?
